Having a better recieving year than Ginn doesnt win me over...

Bess is "okay" im not a Bess basher I dont hate him like he stole my bike like some of you hate Ginn.

But the reality is he SUCKED as a return man and had some struggles this year, will he get better? I hope. Will he sniff Wes Welkers sack? No...no he wont.

Someone up their said If I couldnt see Bess was a "special player" there was no need for a discussion.

    I disagree.

A couple fumbles does not take away from what Bess has done for our team. He has the best chemistry with Henne of any WR. He makes some very tough catches. He always fights for the ball. He and Hartline can't be matched in terms of working hard to get better. I don't think anyone here should be expecting more from Bess than he has already given us. As an undrafted free agent, he become a staple of our offense.

The WR on our team isn't a matter of lacking talent, or the right pieces. Bess and Hartline will remain with this regime till the end. I foresee our future WRs consisting of...

#1 - yet to be acquired
    #2 - Brian Hartline
    Slot Specialist - Davone Bess
    X factor - Ted Ginn

IMO, that has the makings of a great passing attack.

Bess is a very good "check down" WR, but he will never give defenses fits or make Rex Ryan stress out for lack of finding a way to contain him.

He is an ok player and thats ok.

If Bess was drafted #9 you would see the same group of people crying about him, If Ginn was an UDFA you would see the same people looking at him in a glass half full manner.

The nuetral people who only care about seeing this team get better know what Im talking about.

Here is a corny quote "Its not who Iam, but what I do that defines me" Rachael Doss knew that and you people dont?

Bess is special to me same as Welker was... They both give 150% effort everytime they are on the field, they both played for peanuts as far as money is concerned but you never would have known from watching them play. Everyone used to bag on Welker and say he was nothing special which irked me to no end while he was here and now people are doing the same with Bess, I don't think Bess has achieved Welker status just yet but he's not that far off.

Seems like you're dismissing the value of a check down WR. Those are the exact type of players that give defenses fits. Think Heath Miller for Pittsburgh. Wes Welker for New England. Vontae Davis for Buffalo. :shifty: See what I did there.

Nonetheless. Bess does give Bill Belichick fits. I'm pretty sure they even started double teaming him out of frustration. Remember? He had something like 8 catches in the first half. The potential to take over games is certainly there. I can handle having a slot WR who always contributes, and occasionally dominates. Pair that with a true #1 WR, a big physical pass catching TE, a punishing ground game, and we should be in business.

....He may have ran into some man-Zone coverages but I can guaruntee you he wasnt the focal point on the other teams gameplan. Why was Darell Revis manned up on Ginn then and not Bess?

    You guys win.

I was so wrong about Bess....infact I cant wait to buy the AFC pro bowl jersey he will have this year.

Im not "downing" Bess for the 100th time I just simply dont think he is the stud some of you seem to think he is. I do realize that he has value, but I dont see the second coming of Welker or anything close....but I hope Im wrong.

Time will tell, one thing is for sure...Id rather see Dan Carpenter returning punts next year than Bess.

That is a very good point. But I think it's fair to say that Bess is far better than Ginn as a WR. Regardless of how they were acquired, their roles are clear now. Bess' role is a possession WR. This is a vital role, and he plays it very well. Ginn's role is as a deep threat, end around specialist, kick returner. The respect for Ginn's speed often provides a good cushion for a quick comeback pass also. For what his role is, he does it well. The issue you're addressing is that most fans still judge him by the role he was drafted for.

I agree on that last part. Bess is an awful punt returner. I would rather use Ginn. He had some great punt returns in college. I know that was on a different level, but I know he can find daylight more often than Bess.

Im an important man. But normally when teams decide to use their best CB to shadow a specific Wr the whole game...it tends to be the one they fear the most.

And Gish I have a new sig request....

Screw my GM league team get me a photoshop pic of Bess in a #83 jersey, Im joining the I think Bess is great mophia.

Simple. We start the year against the Lions, Browns, and Raiders to get our hype at an alltime high. Then we cruise to a 9-5 record before facing back to back teams that are resting for the playoffs. Probably Minnesota and Baltimore. We finish 11-5, win the division, host and destroy the Steelers for the Wildcard, then we get lucky and beat Baltimore in round 2 before losing to the Houston Texans in the AFC Championship. Why Houston? Well, wouldn't it figure that we would face the one team we have never beat?
