    Pennington

We have one too many QB's folks and need the extra roster spot. I know Henne and Pennington will stay but who will go?

Will they cut the fragile Pat White? or will they trade the big armed Thigpen?

i think penny will be traded in August after a QB or two go down with injuries. If not I would imagine it would be Pat White

As much as I would like to say White,I feel they invested too much in him(2nd round pick) to just give up now. I like Thigpen and would like to keep him so that only leaves Pennington. I feel one will get traded either Thigpen or Penny,it really just depends who is inquired about and what the other team is offering, both can be had for the right price.

The Charlie Whitehurst deal changed everything in my mind. And John Clayton wrote the article about this that I'm sure most of you read.

Charlie Whitehurst who has never thrown an NFL pass in his life can yield a 3rd round pick. Kevin Kolb's asking price was a 1st round pick and more!

IMO, our front office will definitely be listening to offers for Thigpen and if they get a 2nd or better (maybe a 2nd and a 6th, who knows) then I think they pull the trigger. If not, then they'll keep Thigpen and listen to offers on Pennington, who may yield a 3rd rounder from a desperate team(Raiders, Redskins) come August.

But I highly doubt all 3 are on our roster come week 6

    Any particular reason why?

I don't think there is anyone else I'd rather have come into the game if my starter got injured.

He's careful, doesn't make mistakes and has a load of experience. Almost impossible to find in a backup. In fact, I think we have the best, most reliable backup QB in the league if it winds up being Pennington

Pat White is not a QB.
    Therefore we only have 3.

Pat White is a total flop at QB and needs to be moved to any one of his various position descriptions. Unfortunately, he is too little to play WR or RB on a full time basis. He excels in open field running so I would expect him to be classified as a returner or a part time WR.

I was furious when they drafted this guy so high and his role on this team as well as his production numbers were a bust. He must be good at other things that they are banking on because he is a flop at QB.

Eventually I expect the order to be; Henne. Thigpen and then Pennington. Pennington is very well respected and should be kept as a mentor for Henne, but I think he's too fragile to risk regular play. A third string spot would be ideal for him.

One thing is certain, Pat White is no QB and I question whether he is worth a full time roster spot for a part time guy.

I would have to say that we will start the season with Henne as the starter, Pennington and White as the backups. I believe that Thigpen will get traded sometime before the start of training camps. I am not sold on Pat White being our backup QB and honestly believe that the Trifecta made an error in judgement on him, but it is only his second season and they may want to try and salvage him before he gets the "b" label. Before anyone starts to blaze away, this is of course all IMHO and not meant as a bash on Pat White.

I'd pull the trigger on Thiggy if we could get a second or high 3rd, but realistically, IMO the market values him at a 4th or a 5th. If this is true, I contend that given the mortality rate of league QBs, his ability to run the WC better than PW, the past evidence that he can win games, he's worth a helluva lot more to us than what the market would bear. When you consider that most mid-round draft picks are "hit or miss," I'm for keeping "the bird in the hand" for the mystery in "the bush." So White's odd man out.

San Diego got a 3rd and moved up like 25 spots in the 2nd round for Charlie Whitehurst!

He's never thrown a pass in an NFL game.

Uncapped year - follow the money. Perfect timing to cut the Pat White experiment. They like Tyler and he can do the PW boogy better than Pat can so in my mind its a no brainer!!:shifty:

    Two things are obvious.

    1) we won't keep 4 QBs.
    2) White won't be given up on this early in his career, based on the investment.

My guess is that one of the guys will get moved via trade (Thigpen or Penny) OR White will find a home as WR, RB or Slash type player for at least this season to give him the chance. After that, he'll have to fish or cut bait. One thing that could make a trade more feasible is if White shows something, either as a QB or one of the Slash positions to make the decision easier for them. As much as I have been opposed to White since talk first came out about him this time last year, they'll give him at least another year. The likelihood of White getting traded is pretty slim. He has no history in the NFL to warrant anyone else looking at him.

Again I cant say how much I love this guy, he was and is my favorite Dolphin since Zach Thomas....he is a consummate professional, a leader, and would love to see him be the qb coach after he retires, and then who knows, maybe run the whole offense someday....

that being said he just isn't that good anymore, he doesnt strike fear into defenses, and after this lastest surgery I simply dont trust him....before the last surgery he couldn't complete anything over 15 yards, he cant throw any fades, deep outs, posts etc....5 yards and under he is good at, but with that you need YAC, which these receivers aren't the greatest at YAC as we all know... defenses were literally stacking the line and blitzing all game, daring him to throw, and he just couldn't stretch the field, which was one of the reasons they started the wildcat in the first place...in todays NFL (especially with the rules now), you need a QB is get the ball from point A to point B as quickly as possible and accurately...he still is probably accurate, just doesn't have the quickly part down....

Maybe Thigpen's style didn't fit their system, who knows?

But if someone dangles a 2nd round pick for Thigpen, I bet we jump on it. Especially if that team is in the NFC

white will be utilized as WR, SpecialTeams & perhaps in the WildCat. he has not panned out as a conventional QB & must find another way to contribute or move on

look for some competition between Henne, Thigpen & Pennington  competition is the elixir of success

Not exactly apples to apples. John Schneider has had an active interest in Whitehurst even long before he impressed him throwing 304 yards in an SEC Clemson game in the wind and rain in 04. Yes, that's the SEC. They were born in the same hospital in Green Bay where Whitehurst's dad was a back up QB for 6 years. So the Seattle GM had a considerable preawareness of Whitehurst for quite some time as the link to this article explains:
    http://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/03/19/1115507/whitehurst-caught-gms-eye-years.html?source=rss

Thiggy on the other hand played for Coasal Carolina in one of the bush leagues and on the first football team they actually fielded.

So Whitehurst's specific circumstances should not be used as a benchmark for what we deserve to get in return for Thiggy.

It's a double edged sword. Is too much talent a blessing or a curse?

I think Pat White is a good player, just not a full time QB. Anyone remember the Randall Cunningham debate?

Could you imagine pat White as 3rd down addition to a formation? How about a slot receiver? If he is kept it would be interesting to see what he develops into and how they use him. He can do just about anything, except be a starting QB.

Sparano already said they were looking at position change for White, he's not gonna get cut but it's likely he's not gonna be a QB anymore unless they get a really nice trade offer for Thigpen.

Listen I don't think Pat White will be a NFL QB but don't you need at least 3 years to develop? Since when does 1 year show what a payer is going to be?

    Just playing devils advocate here.

we will keep 4 QBs thru TC ... so would seem we are good to go - for now!

we will get a better indication during the OTCs whether or not PW is truly in the mix or not for the WC -- because, otherwise - he assuredly is not.
