Can the Phins defense be dominant in 2010 without upgrading at NT?

Can we have a dominant defense in 2010 without upgrading at NT?

If you read the original question, he states that in this scenario we upgrade other positions. So I don't get what you're saying. He wasn't asking if we keep the exact defense we have now.

Why not? They shut down the Jaguars and Titans elite rushing games with Soliai as an NT, even with the linebackers doing their bad linebacker play thing.

36 is the new 30... He doesn't have much wear and tear. No nagging injuries and whatnot. Yeah, I guess I do believe he would still be better than most.

Trying to fill every defensive hole in a quest to be dominant makes no sense when you're a play maker away at WR and TE from having a dominant offense.

In a league, being dominated......by dominant offenses

We can make do at NT for now

Offense was not the problem on this team last year, and was specifically not the reason we lost to the eventual Super Bowl champs last year. While I think we agree on the answer to the OPs question, we absolutely, positively need a safety.

Nolan is a LB's dream too. We're gonna see a lot more pressure from every LB this year! He'll be mixing it up, won't know if where the blitz will come from or who will be pressuring...

I'm very interested to see what Nolan does with Wake. I see Wake as very similar to Dumervil when Nolan took over the D in Denver.

Jets lost their dominant NT and still were a dominant defense. You can get by with decent play from the NT if the other positions can pick up the slack.

I agree with the bolded statemant. Chances are, Paul Soliai will be the better NT if we draft one this season. Couple with the fact that Ferguson is coming back, NT isn't looking like a need.

    I wouldn't be surprised
    to see Randy Starks @ 6-3 350
already a prototype in many ways
    converted to NT by Nolan
    when you think about it.
    he already knows the position
could be Soliai & Starks are the answer
for 2010 & our franchise future
    much easier to find another
Ace @ DE in the draft

Last year they flirted with McDaniels there a little and he said he enjoyed it. He is a little tall for NT but I wouldn't be surprised to see him there.
