Combine where he did nothing, Pro day where he did nothing

The season, where he was suspended.

Read the sports pages, they have wonderful info :hi5:

The season is one of the biggest days of his life? I must've missed where 4 months = 1 day. Not to mention he actually did play last season.

He did nothing at his pro day? Wow, could've fooled me since there were workout numbers. I guess Rolando McClain did less than nothing at his pro day though.

He didn't have to do anything at the combine, not to mention he was hurt. I guess Rob Gronkowski and Demaryius Thomas shouldn't get touched because they've done nothing on the biggest days of their lives.

Of course you're also assuming that every big day in his entire life has been NFL related (not to mention having have occurred in the past 6 months). Without knowing him, I think that's pretty unfair.

I still don't see how forgetting your cleats is a red flag.

    Colorado Dolfan ...dirty drownin' man?

I can. I don't think it's a huge issue, but throwing it in with the other issues out there, can definitely make it seem worse.

The question is already out there whether or not he is committed to playing football... Forgetting your cleats when you're absolutely going to need them to put your best foot forward is a problem. It can be viewed as him not having the proper mindset.

That being said, I'm not totally against Bryant being a 'Phin come draft day. I'm not totally for it, either, though. I'm sure the FO has done their research and will make the right decision...

I am all in for drafting him. 4.40, 4.5 forty, I don't care. The man has talent that we sorely need.

I know I'll get killed for this but didn't Ginn have talent and skills in college? My point is not all college stars are successful in the NFL. It has happened enough times to be a concern.

I'd love to get a superstar receiver but would hate to see another unproven rookie get 20 - 30 million, or whatever a #12 gets, and not produce at a level worth that money. I would feel a lot more comfortable with those kind of picks if their pay was based on production for any draft pick.

I understand how some of you feel. I miss the days when we had guys like Clayton, Duper, Fryar etc. Having said that, I believe it is possible to win consistently in today's NFL with average receivers if your D and run game excel. I know that is a big if.

No, you're right. Some people think Dez Bryant is already a Pro Bowl WR at the NFL level. Fact is, he's just as unproven as anyone else we want to see at 12.

Ginn was actually quite raw for a WR coming out of college. He was drafted by Cam and Randy seemingly more to play special teams than WR.

He was absolutely nowhere near the level that Bryant is at now. In terms of NFL ready day 1 starters, Dez is absolutely one of top prospects.

Does that mean he will automatically go to a probowl or going to be a hall of fame? Of course not. But guess what, nobody is - from Sam Bradford, to Ndamakong Suh, to Eric Berry to anyone else.

But we have not had a WR of this caliber on the team SINCE those days of Duper/Clayton/Fryer. Coincidentally look how far we have gotten into the playoffs since those days.

All I keep hearing about are shady somewhat unsubstantiated rumors of "character issues." We arent talking about a guy who is beating his girl, raping chicks, getting arrested for driving drunk, or for fighing dogs, or getting suspended because hes a substance abuser. Oh noes! He forgot his cleats!

An absent minded 20 year old! God save us all from this bust in progress! Jesus, we spend months planning vacations and still forget important stuff. Im not passing on potentially the next dominant wide receiver for this ****.

This guy is EXACTLY WHAT CHAD HENNE NEEDS! He doesnt drop the ball like Owens or Braylon Edwards. He goes up and comes down with it. Hes not a blazer but like Fitz/Boldin you dont see him getting caught from behind often, and HES A TOUCHDOWN MACHINE!

Quick question - how many TDs did our leading WR have last year? 3 - yes freaking THREE! You do NOT win in this league by having your leading WR score 3 touchdowns! Lets take, by contrast, a peek at Indy and NO. Indy had 10 TDs apiece by Wayne and Clark, and another 7 by Collie and 4 by Garcon. New Orleans had both Colston and Meachum with 9.

Passing on this kid should we be fortunate enough to have him fall would be the worst move this regime could possibly make.

The problem is that no matter who is drafted, they are all getting paid the money that you list. No matter how any of us feel about a prospect, no one is guranteed and they all could be bust. But you can not go into the offseason and be scared. I am not saying we should go and take just some random guy, but do your homework and take a chance. Is he the most talented WR available? Yes. Does he feel a major need for us? Yes again! Did he forget his cleats and is a little immature? Yes again, but he is a kid and on the biggest day he made a minor mental error. Hell I forgot worse in my life. Proper coaching, and a postive role model is all thiis guy needs.

Good thing about the NFL, you leave your cleats at the stadium. Plus on road trips they have guys who's job it is to bring them for you!

Good points but there is more to TD's than just the receiver. The line and the QB are in that too. I hope we do get Dez or someone with skills like him. I just don't think he is necessarily the only way to go. And no I'm not bashing Henne or our O line but both need to improve and I think they will.

The money thing is an old gripe with me. It doesn't bother me for a guy to get big money if he produces at that level. It is irritating that guys get paid for not doing their job when most other industries if you don't you get fired demoted whatever. Well unless you're a bank exec. I really think rookie contracts are out of hand. Just my opinion.

Hopefully the O line will continue to improve to give those pass plays time to develop and Henne will continue to improve (learn some touch to go with the fire balls) to hit whoever is open and the guy that is open will catch the ball and find the end zone more often.

I can understand the money part, but I look at this we are going to pay someone anyway, why not him?

As far as him being able to catch the ball and find the endzone. Watch the you tube videos of him. Amazing, Is all I can say!

At this point, although I want Dez on this team, I'm so sick of talking about him I don't really give a hoot what happens to the guy. I just want the draft over with so we can either 1. gloat over drafting him, or 2. move on and never mention his name on this site again.

You know that won't happen if we don't draft him. Hell we are still talking about Eddie Moore and Boldin, Ginn and Quinn. But I understand what you are saying. 22 more days and this will all be over.

With the 12th pick in the Draft Miami Dolphins select WR Dez Bryant Ok St

What it is is horrid. When we need to pass we can't. That destroys your chances in a passing league.

By my count we were successful on 22% of our 3 and 7+ conversion attempts. I don't know what the best teams get, but I do know that over the last five years or so the league average is 37% - 40%. So we're 15% - 18% below being average.

I was wondering if you were going to comment on this Padre. I had to go to the play by play for every Dolphin game last season to get these numbers to answer your question. And I think it was a legitimate question. It demonstrates how startling bad our pass offense was compared to the rest of the league. It's even worse when you're going through the play by play. Almost every time you see a 3rd and long it feels like a lost cause. Our 22% was only 20 conversions for the season. And at least 1/4 came from draw plays, dump passes or scrambles.

It's even more disheartening when you go through the play by play and see your opponents converting at a seemingly higher rate (I didn't count those). Overall we weren't bad, 15th in 2009 and 10th in 2008 (with the same ILBs but different FS). Since I didn't count the 3rd and longs I don't know what percentage they were of the total. But I don't recall us being exceptional at 3rd and short defense so I doubt it would skew the numbers like it did for the offense.

Having run these numbers, it looks pretty clear that our success at improving our offensive YPA and getting better FS play will determine our success on the field.

i would put my money on this option
bryant is a guy everyone wants because the need feels greater than the actual player. i bet the FO sees it differently than the "we have to draft dez" crowd. i bet they see a guy with no focus who has talent but will fail because of character. they know once they put money in this guys hands its all over. we dont need players like that regardless of what the talent may be. if the talent is there and the potential is never reached was it worth it. that is the question they have asked themselves and my guess the answer is no guys dez is not worth it

There is no guarantee that Dez will fail. There are guys with bigger issues who have thrived in the NFL...Moss, TO, Marshall, Ray Lewis, etc, etc. To say that Dez will fail is not only silly, but extraordinarily premature.

It's not a 50/50 thing either. Physically Bryant is very similar to Fitz. It is very unlikely that Bryant will fail b/c of any physical ability short-coming. If he fails it will be almost assuredly based on character issues. But in his case the character issues are incredibly overblown. I can't think of any player ever who has generated so much character talk that didn't have a criminal record.

Kind of reminds me of Vontae Davis. He had all these "character concerns" last year but they were ridiculously overblown. So he dropped and we drafted him at 25. Since he's been drafted I haven't heard one bad thing about him. Looks like a hell of a player too.

There's nothing I enjoy more this time of year than reading the ramblings of various armchair psychologists, who know nothing about these kids on a personal level, that are convinced a certain prospect will bust based on these "red flags".

Either does T.O., but he causes havoc where ever he goes.

I have never said the guy won't be good, but that our need for defense is greater than having him on our team.

I don't understand what all his "character issues" are. I get that he lied because he thought something he may have done could have been wrong, and as it turns out, he really did nothing wrong.

It was dumb of him to lie, but how many times was he probably approached by boosters trying to do something illegal and he rejected it? I would imagine an awful lot, if he was that scared about admitting he had dinner at Deion's house.

Fact is, if a guy this talented is there at 12, I don't know how you could pass him up.

I could give a damn about his "measurables" and 40 time...I know what I saw on the football field, and this kid is special.

But I never said he was a guaranteed superstar. I said that guaranteeing him to be a failure is silly...which it is. Sure, he could fail, but I would say that the scales are leaning far more heavily to him being a stud than theybare to him being a bust.
