And neither has Dez!!! Well, Dez may have been accused of being chronically, habitually late, but only by ignorant fools and it was summarily found to be false.

When is all this misinformation going to cease?

The more well meaning misguided fans want to rag this guy the more I hope we pick him.

Have any media types asked any of the OSU team? Zac Robinson was asked about him and his response was completely positive.

That is a matter of Gawd Damned opinion. I am so sick of people saying he could have done more. They didn't have the bar in their hands. Only Dez knows if he could have done more. Did anyone specifically ask him about it?:pity:

    THIS!!!
Anyone with half a brain can see Marshall, both conduct wise and financially is a much bigger risk. If he were a solid citizen though, the Broncos would not be looking to trade him.

Bryant's only fault is he had a very rough childhood. I doubt anyone of you here who like to climb up on your higher moral ground could have handled his situation any better. :pity:

Marshall has a rap sheet long as your arm. He is good for about 3 arrests a year. He likes to rough up women. He is a punk.

Bryant is not even close to that. He has never been arrested for anything. Where and when does this character assassination of Bryant stop around here? He has done two things wrong that are documented and provable. He told a lie to the NCAA. He would have gotten away with it, but felt remorse for being dishonest and went back and told the truth. He got the suspension for that. Mike Gundy, who should know if anyone would, say he was late to ONE team meeting as freshman. Of course the Dez haters like to balloon this up to such nonsense as being "chronically" late for meetings, practices and games. To support this crap they say Gundy is probably lying to cover for Dez. What utter bollocks.

THIS!!! I however suppose all the Marshall nut huggers will try to make us believe if he came to Miami, he would experience a character transformation.

Jeez, so now Dez = Chris Henry? They are not even close to similar, unless now you think Dez will get suspended for substance abuse too. He has done nothing to warrant that, but I guess that does not matter, if it helps in the argument to tear him down.

Yes let's use 40 times as the main criteria for which WR we should get.

What did Jerry Rice run the 40 in again? 4.71

I don't want Dez for the simple reason of wanting an OLB that can get to the QB more.

To me, OLB is more of a pressing need.

And when all the dust settles, THIS is the ONLY legitimate reason for not wanting Dez.
All the other stuff is nothing but pure BULL!!!
Now then, I would venture to agree with Greg's statement, EXCEPT there aren't any pass rushers that are even remotely close to being in Dez' talent range. In fact, there are only a handful of guys in the entire draft that are. :wink2:

Please...and Tom Brady was a 6th round pick, there have been 10 yrs of 6th rd picks since then and no other Tom Brady's. There are exceptions to general rules Mr C.

As for the thought that Bryant's speed is little different from Hartline's, folks should keep in mind Hartline did avg 16ypc, and Bryant weighs more than 25 pds than B Hartline does.

Just to clarify, Jerry Rice actually ran a 4.71 40 at the combine. :wink2:
But, he sucked so it doesn't even matter. :shifty:

OLB can easily be filled a playmaking WR is hard to come by. I'd only go OLB if you can guarantee Benn or Tate with the 2nd round pick.

I guess you missed the point I was making, which was the simple fact that Hartline's running a couple hundredths of a second faster in the forty means less than nothing on whether or not we should draft Dez.

As for WR speed, Rice is just one example and the most obvious and most repeated, so maybe I should have been more original. Did Michael Irvin run the 40 faster than Dez? Did Terrel Owens?

    Canada EH!
I found this below, other then it all i found was how fast he could run the 40 after each line of cocaine. This is for Irvin.

    http://www.cowboysplus.com/classic/webspecials/michaelirvin/042588irvin.html

After some digging, I found mixed results for T.O. Some have his time as low as 4.23, but it was J. Galloway who ran it that fast in 1995. I have heard a few on message boards say just under 4.6 for Owens. Sounds about right. This was at following link for 4.6 time.

    http://bbs.buccaneers.com/showthread.php?t=89652

So going by that, it shows Dez is right around their 40 times also. It's game speed that matters, not a 40 time. I would be happy with Dez at 12, or Thomas.

Show me the link where this has been disproved. I have seen nothing that disproves his habitual lateness to team meetings and practices.

I'm guessing the "diva" label is due to his association with Deion Sanders.

If he only produces as well as Deion did.

Earl Thomas cant tackle?? News to me.....pretty good video here, they are some good plays and bad plays...but the kid can tackle and hit, no doubt.....especially look at 3:41....it is rare when you find a FS that is as physical as ET....

Just because he throws out Jerry Rice because it's an obvious example, doesn't change the idea that you shouldn't judge a player based on his 40 time. I mean, hey if we don't want Jerry Rice and his slow 40 time... why don't we just go ahead and cut Davone Bess while we're at it?

dude this is the thing and I have said it again again, at 12 they can't screw up, it has to be a sure thing..this cannot be a project...we are all very pointed in our beliefs....it is getting heated on here and I love it, as long as at the end of the day we all know we are on the same team...

part of me wants to get Dez, more of me says do it right and get Marshall, the offense would fly IMO (with also getting rid of Henning ha), but then there is that part of me that says, "Man we arent going anywhere with this defense".......Believe me, I was the biggest "get a receiver fan" at the start of the offseason.....look at my history of my post, I got clowned on here for it.....

Never said he can't tackle, if you're going to quote me, then quote me right..

I won't freak out if Thomas is the pick, as we do need a ballhawk at the position. But no, he's not known for his ability to tackle and at #12 he's a bit of a reach, talent wise. Bryant, talent wise, is probably top 5 in this draft.

I didnt know there was that much of a difference between "not a great tackler" or "cant tackle"......I figured you were saying he couldnt tackle...which isnt true....as far as FS's goes the cat can tackle, and is very phyiscal....you just dont tackle sometimes and then dont.....you are either good at it or you arent....again for a FS, Thomas can tackle well....

I was joking during the national championship game after Thomas missed a tackle, on that thread, and Boomer jumped in my sheet.....I assume you know Boom....

Earl Thomas and physical are two words that do not belong in the same sentence unless you are talking about how he isn't physical on the field at all.

Not being great at something and not being able to do it all.........yeah I'd say there's an obvious difference.

The guy you describe sounds more like Eric Berry than Earl Thomas....

You're welcome to your opinion, I just think you're exaggerating for effect.

That being said, I think he's a good player and would be a good fit.....is that enough for you or do I need to make a banner professing my love for him?

36 seconds in he looks pretty damn physical and aggressive to me. Also note the monster hit he lays on the WR at 1:15 or so.

comparing him to a linebacker no obviously he isnt physical, however again for a FS, the guy can tackle, has incredible range from sideline to sideline, watching him use his speed from said sideline to sideline, he generates alot of power and is good at knowing where to hit you, often undercutting opposing players....

I am not and could care less about exaggerating, I am calling it how I see it bro....the man has speed that translate onto the field, and not some flat 40, hands are awesome, again knows how to tackle very well, that being said I would take the advice from the draft guru's on this very forum like Boomer, before any of us including myself, even though I watched alot of college ball over the years...

The good thing about me watching college, I dont have a favorite team, and could care less about the BCS, standings, any of that, but I watch alot of it because I always look for those players for Miami you know?? And believe me I am not saying you or anybody is biased of any team.....

I dont know many CB/FS/SS that arent great at tackling, or make 60% of tackle they try, they either suck at it, or bring it.....so sue me I thought you meant that...haha!

He's an incredibly smart FS. He just has this amazing ability to be exactly where the offense is going with the ball, and to get there AFTER the QB has committed to the throw, but before the ball actually arrives. There are some plays I swear he knows where the ball is going before even the QB does.

it sounds kinda odd bro, because he would be a rookie, but he is exactly what Miami needs back there, a heady field general, who can actually catch balls and make plays....it would take so much pressure of those 2 2nd year guys...and if Will come back to form, your are talking a solid solid nucleus back there, in a pass heavy NFL, for several years..:knucks:

Well a few months ago you thought he couldn't tackle and now you want to start some long *** debate with me over me stating he wasn't a "great" tackler.....I like the guy, if Bryant is gone he's my next choice. If you're looking to argue about him with someone, I'm sure KB would be more than happy to oblige. Arguing with me over a guy we both like seems kinda pointless..

I think arguing with anyone here is pointless. Sometimes people just say really outlandish things and we jump at them, or rather things we feel are outlandish.

No-one knows what any of these guys will do. Honestly he's my pick ahead of Dez Bryant. However if we picked Bryant I wouldnt be angry or anything. Both players have a great future IMO, if Bryant can keep his head on right.
