I thought before the 2010 draft rolls along, this would be an interesting time to look at the past 5 drafts at the quarterback position - of course, with the biased eye to see where our own Chad Henne ranks in comparison. Here is how i would rank 50 of them in my own opinion (name-round/pick-team): Hall of Fame 1. Aaron Rogers 1/24 gb 2. Vince Young 1/3 ten 3. Matt Ryan 1/3 atl 4. Chad Henne 2/26 mia Good to Go 5. Joe Flacco 1/18 bal 6. Mark Sanchez 1/5 nyj 7. Matt Stafford 1/1 det 8. Kevin Kolb 2/4 phi 9. Jay Cutler 1/11 den 10. Josh Freeman 1/17 tb Okay for Now 11. Matt Cassell 7/16 ne 12. Kyle Orton 4/5 chi 13. Matt Lienert 1/10 ari 14. Alex Smith 1/1 sf In a Pinch 15. Tyler Thigpen 7/7 min 16. Jason Campbell 1/25 was 17. Derek Anderson 6/39 cle 18. Trent Edwards 3/28 bef 19. Brodie Croyle 3/21 kc Maybe One Day 20. Troy Smith 6/37 bal 21. Brady Quinn 22. Charlie Whitehurst 23. Tavaris Jackson 24. Ryan Fitzpatrick Cross Your Fingers 25. Jamarcus Russell 26. Bruce Gradkowski 27. Kellen Clemons 28. Andrew Walter 29. Colt Brennan You're Not a QB 30. Brad Smith 31. Pat White Good Luck (if you ever play) 32 - 47. Rhett Bomar 5/15, Nate Davis 5/35, Stephen McGee 4/1, Erik Ainge 5/27, John David Booty 5/2, Jeff Rowe 5/14, Ingle Martin 5/15, Omar Jacobs 5/32, Charlie Frye 3/3, David Greene 3/21, Stefan Lefours 4/20, Adrian McPherson 5/16, Dennis Dixon 5/21, Isaiah Stanbeck 4/4 and Josh Johnson 5/25. Should've Drafted a Punter instead 48. John Beck 49. Kevin O' Connell 3/31 ne Worst QB pick of the last 5 years 50. Brian Brohm 2/25 gb Things I learned: * Drafting is hard. Look at all those busts and and mediocre players throughout every round. But if you really want a good QB, you probably should be drafting one in the first or second. * Chad Henne is golden. I'm a homer, but i really would rank him in the top five QBs drafted in the last five years. Its close between he and flacco, sanchez, stafford and kolb, but i would select him before them. hopefully in a few years he'll prove me right. Thank gosh GB drafted Brian Brohm the pick before him. * Tyler Thigpen isn't too shabby, and Pat White - I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but he needs to complete a pass before he ranks any higher.
If Chad Henne makes the Hall Of Fame I will eat my hat. Which means I'll have to buy a hat and THEN eat it. Double whammy. However it is your personal opinion and I respect that.
I dont know how Jamarcus Russel isnt in the Worst QB pick of the last 5 years he is a horrbile QB i would also put colt brennan in the maybe one day spot
there arnt any words that can describe how bad he is that is just the first one that popped in my head
1. the rank system was just a quick opinion of how i thought they compared with each other, and to provide fodder for discussion. 2. "hall of fame" wasnt supposed to actually suggest theyd make the HOF, i dont see how you could be so easily confused =). the headings were mostly tongue in cheek and just made me laugh, so dont go sharing them with children. but heck with that, chad henne is definitely absolutely going to be in the hall of fame, and how dare u disagree. 3. jamarcus russell is the worst pick in 5 years since he was a #1, youre all totally right with that, but i would prefer him to be my quarterback than brian brohm. so in an attempt not to get a headache with weighted algorithms, i just decided to fawn over henne's fine balls.
i like you believe that Henne is going to be very good ... albeit, right now today - he goes in the 'good to go' category ... Lienart needs to fall down to the 'in a pinch' category ... he really isn't very good. Thigpen is in with a bad lot there ... don't think he belongs with that bunch -- but i do believe he has the ability to best everyone in that category .... he just needs some playing time. 'maybe one day' right now ...
The jury is still out on Vince Young. He looked great, then looked like crap, and now he looks great again...for now. He gets his own category: Wildcard
Oh, and Mark Sanchez sucks. 53% completion rate sucks. You should be at least at 60% (like my boy Henne) to even be considered "good to go". 12/20 TD/INT ratio sucks as well. Sucks really bad. Almost Namath-esque (career 170/215)!!! He's overrated because he's cute and charming and plays in New York. If he looked like Scottie Pippen, he'd be considered a bust. Sanchez sucks. So do the jets.
