iPhone is awesome @ 70 a month man... I have it and it's great... 70/mo= 500 min, unlimited text and $30 data plan (required)

But I'd wait for the iPhone4G that comes out in the late summer.

    BTW I have an iphone 3g 8gb

Tapatalk thankfully works on Android. I'm fact, it's BETTER on Android right now.

The iPhone is obviously the more mature platform. It is the standard everyone else is chasing. But as long as it is still AT&T only, it will lose ground to Android, which will continue to mature and gain ground regardless.

Hardware-wise what I'd like to see is a TRUE GPS that works with the efficiency of a Garmin. I went to Orlando for the UM(v)WIS bowl game. I got around Orlando by my iPHONE GPS...I'm in Miami yesterday and my GPS couldn't figure out how to get from Miller Rd to The Falls. Not cool, iPhone. Software-wise, I'd love to see Apple re-negotiate their AT&T contract for Internet tethering included in the data plan. There's so much the device can do but because of exigent circumstance we don't get to utilize. Really, I only want the data plan from AT&T. I should be able to use my Skype account like I do on my laptop. I'm envious of Android's Google Voice VoIP. The line between a telephone and computer should not exist. It's all data, I don't know why I need to pay AT&T extra for texting. Makes no sense in my head.

The only thing Skype on the iPhone can't do is video chat.

Google Voice isn't a VoIP service.

By that I mean I should be able to on my Skype app make calls over 3G instead of only with Wi-Fi. I use my skype ALOT for phone calls and texts. I should be able to keep it open so I can receive calls through it instead of my AT&T number. I get better rates and free USA calls through Skype. I'd like to take advantage of that plan on my iPhone which has a Skype app already. I want the wi-fi barrier removed.

What's the protocol for Google Voice?

You can. AT&T rescinded their ban on 3G Skype calls months ago.

It's not really a telephony service, despite the fact that you can make calls from it. Think of it as a Google-based combination of your voicemail and text messages. The phone number they give you can be forwarded to your real number. Here, I'll let Wiki explain:

Okay, I did a little Googling and I jumped the gun. AT&T removed the restriction, but Skype never updated their app to add 3G calling. They've promised the update for months but have yet to deliver.

There are a couple of posts on their forums claiming that Skype's recent deal with Verizon precludes Skype from releasing a 3G capable iPhone app.

Sounds like a preview event much like the one for 3.0.

Of course, if they want to go ahead and release 4.0 soon, that's fine with me!

Jailbreak and use 3G Unrestrictor. It tricks apps into working as if they're on Wifi. Sometimes hogging up the bandwidth and ruining the experience for users that actually follow the rules. Oh well...

Jailbreaking is a pain in the *** plus if Apple makes an update, I have to risk losing the jailbreak and have to do the entire process all over again. I tried once to jailbreak my phone before Slingbox was available over 3G. For whatever reason I never was able to get my Wi-Fi apps to work over 3G so I gave up on that experiment.

Do you have any experience with Unrestrictor?

I love Android. I'm addicted. It kinda feels like PS3 to 360. You know the OS is much better (or at least it feels like it), we just need more apps, which will happen in time.

FWIW, I don't think that day when the number of apps on Android equals the number of apps on the iPhone will ever come. Hard to catch up when Apple has 80K apps (v) 10K on Android. In regards to the Android OS, I feel like in its design, a bunch of engineers sat in a room and asked, "what can we take from the iPhone that's successful, let's copy that and put our spin on it." They did that with Gmail and the rest of the Google apps, so they're better on Android. For me, between iPhone and Android, its the same reason why I don't have ubuntu on my laptop anymore. Ubuntu is more secure, stable, free, etc. but doesn't have all the support and features that I get with Windows 7. I can connect easily to my wireless printer, access my school's network, and so on. Its not the OS that ultimately defines the utility of a device, but its ability to tackle problems. iPhone does more actual things and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Furthermore, Android isn't really pushing tech forward. Compare what Android dose with what Microsoft is proposing with Windows phone 7. Here's an review:
http://j.mp/aT0R2g If Android wants to overtake the iPhone OS, they'll have to take a risk like Microsoft will with smartphones.

I've converted at least 5 people to iPhones since getting mine. Some are former Android users. Generally, if people that have used an iPhone have access to one they get it because it is that good. I used to be an anti-iPhone guy... I used to be a Sprint guy. It was "android this" and "blackberry that". My brother has been on iPhones since it came out. Once i really tried one I understood that there was no going back.

Admittedly, I haven't had much experience with the Iphone. However, isn't the cheapest data plan and service 89.99 a month (plus tax, insurance, etc.)? Verizon is the same IINM.

That's about $100 a month all said and done. Whereas Sprint is 69.99 for smart phone plans. Hard to beat that.

$70. $40 for the cheapest voice plan, $30 for the required unlimited data. If you want to go unlimited everything, $100 total.

Right on. Are text messages included in that plan? I had heard they were not. I actually thought about going to the Iphone when my Sprint contract expired, but opted against it when it seemed like Sprints cheapest plan included more.

Yeah, that includes 250 texts a month. You can go higher for a couple more dollars. I don't remember the exact figures, since I switched over to an unlimited family plan around Christmas.

I switched to Sprint two months ago and I'm glad I did. I had Verizon for 3 years and I never had a good customer service experience.

I switched to Sprint and told them I didn't have good signal with Verizon at my house and they said it would be the same with them, they then gave me the Airave for free and waived my monthly fee for it. Full bars now.

The Android OS is amazing and I also think it will catch up to the IPhone. I live on my phone and haven't used half of the apps.

I got a G1 and only pay $80/month for unlimited everything. T-Mobile doesnt have the best service(I work by the beach in Boca Raton and get dropped calls often, mostly from people using AT&T btw), but theyre more customer oriented and u pretty much get what youre paying for with them.

No hands on experience, but all the reviews I've seen peg it as pretty much the ultimate Android phone, which is to be expected. Were I to ever buy an Android phone (not happening barring the total collapse of Apple as a bastion of quality) I'd go with the Nexus One over the Droid, if only because the N1 is getting Android updates the quickest.

Id like to upgrade to the Nexus One or a newer Android phone, but I need a physical keyboard to type on which I think the g1 is the only Droid phone for Tmobile that has one. Im terrible at touch screen typing.

iPhone OS 4.0 presentation going on right now. According to AppleInsider's coverage, there will be "100 new features," including multitasking, which Jobs is demoing right now. Also:

"Users can create playlists, have a 5x digital zoom, tap to focus on video, gift apps to friends/family, geotagging, places in the photo app, change homescreen wallpaper (like with iPad), Bluetooth keyboard compatibility (also like iPad)."
