I liked the Family Guy version of the Star Wars parody more than the RC version(s). Actually, the last minute of the FG version features Chris (voiced by Seth Green) arguing with Peter about the RC version.

I could see a few 1/2 hour specials, but A WHOLE SERIES???

Shame on Lucas for whoring out the franchise in this manner.

Easier. Cheaper. Less Risk. Requires less "creativity" from Lucas.

The whole Star Wars universe is like Frankenstein, with Lucas as Dr. Frankenstein. Lucas envisioned a creature and believed that creature would behave in a certain way. He wanted to create something never seen before. He fashioned parts from different sources (e.g. Blade Runner, Metropolis, 1950's Sci-Fi) and amalgamated them into this new organism. He thought he created a slave to serve his will. He didn't listen to his contemporary's warnings and birthed something because of ego. His narcissism, his belief that whatever he created would be great and wonderful and serve him until the end of time ultimately became his downfall.

I don't think Lucas really understands why Star Wars so epic, so loved. It wasn't just that there were talking robots, it was an amazing story. The light saber duels in the originals were TERRIBLE, but that didn't make the scenes in Return of the Jedi less memorable. The Yoda scenes on Degoba in Empire Strikes Back weren't cool because Yoda was a muppet but because the muppet was a great character that had great dialogue and eventually you didn't even know that Yoda was a muppet. The realism of special effects wasn't because of their beauty but because the drama made them seem almost real.

So sure, I totally understand why he'd create a parody show based on his legacy. One more source for toys, video games, etc. means more $$$. But for the rest of time, he'll not be known as a director, but as a dude who whored himself and his Frankstein's Monster for profit. I once read in a moment of total honesty that Lucas lamented the success of the Star Wars franchise, saying it meant for the rest of his life he'd be making movies for children instead of documentaries and dramas, which is what he wanted to do.

edit: I just realized that I've been nerding it on thephins forum waaayyyyyy too much lately. Between this and the iphone thread...might as well stop working out and start playing World of Warcraft.
