I wonder if this was all a ploy for him to set a price for the FO to match. Maybe they couldn't come to an agreement on price, and Ireland told him to go find what someone else would label him at?

So as a sticking point, he went to the long hated Jets to show him not only will someone pay XYZ, but it'd cost us also in the process.

It's kind of what everyone else has been saying, but I think the FO is at least somewhat involved in this other than just being one of the three parties.

If you want to name Taylor the best LB you are entitled to do so. For me I will just say they all stink. Anderson and Moses both are scrubs, Cameron Wake is the best of the lot although still a project. Porter should have been traded after the 2008 season because he had value then and nothing left to give the Dolphins. Hell they let there best young developing LB walk which was a big mistake. You ask this question as if JT had a Pro Bowl season which wasn't even close. Everyone seems to hype that he had such a great season last year but I dont see it. What I see is a mid 30's guy who has diminishing skills and disappeared as the season wore on. No one even double teams him anymore. He doesnt make a difference. Looks like the FO seems to think the same way I do about him. Washed up.
He may be elite in your eyes still but what JT did last year was by proxy within a terrible LB core. Not hard to appear as the shining star in that situation.

Occam's razor- the FO likes Wake, Anderson and Moses more than most think and isn't all that thrilled with Taylor, and their ho-hum attitude reflects it. I didn't see Taylor do a whole hell of a lot last year. I'm glad that Porter is gone and kind of ambivalent when it comes to Taylor.

All I have to say is this is the ultimate slap to Dolphins fans. I cant imagine how Dolphindebby is even dealing with this... This is a hard pill to swallow. I feel JT needs to retire a Dolphin. He is worth his weight in gold, the man is a great mentor for all young players and should stay for that and a few snaps. To make it even worse to the JETS!?!??!?!?! oooohhh lord....

Taylor retiring as a Dolphin is a far cry form devoting a roster spot to him. If he were considered a vital cog he'd be signed already. If we draft a good OLB or two he won't be back, if we don't he probably will. I don't think that the FO gives all that much of a crap if he signs elsewhere or not. Dansby- signed immediately, asap. Taylor- they've defined his status- he can be dealt with after the draft, no biggie.

I'll come out and say it: As of right now, the Jets are a better team than us. So shame on him for wanting to get a ring before he retired? NO! Shame on the fans for crucifying JT because he wants a ring and might pursue it. Marino did all he could and retired with no ring. Zach Thomas did all he could but retired with no ring. Jason Taylor did all he could but he still has the opportunity to get a ring. Let him get it and move on!

Im not knocking JT. Im knocking the Dolphins, they should not let him go, in my opinion. Pay the man a few more bucks, Im sure we will make it up in new Dansby Jersey sales. Not sure if you guys remember but there where a few times last year where JT was on the sideline mentoring Vontae and Sean Smith after plays they messed up on. That to me is worth a lot, that I feel we cant get through the draft and the main reason it sucks we are letting him go.

JT is an all time great, but he is also a passive aggressive cancer. Everyone says you need to make him feel wanted and give him what he wants. There's too much sentimental attachment with this guy. He's a stat filler who doesn't come up big when the game is on the line. I can only remember 1 agme during crunch time when he'smade a game changing play and that was the season of 4-12 against the Patsieson MNF where he pressured Brady into the game clinching INT. I'd rather reserve that roster space for a player just above drinking age not close to 2 decades! I want promise with that roster spot not failed promises. Also don't take this as a I hate JT thread because Idon't I actually have 2 of his Jerseys hanging up in my Man Cave!

    so many misguided evaluations abound
JT is still on top of his game
    he's worth a decent 2-year contract
& if the FrontOffice loses him
to another AFC rival we'll live to regret it
Jason Taylor is still @ the top of his game

    no he isn't man
there is a reason the Dolphins haven't signed him and said they wouldn't look into it until after the draft
there are too many options to irrationally sign JT
we will be drafting at least two possible replacements in two weeks

You cant compare a private sector job to being a football player.....it isnt even close...u arent famous, theres no job security, u arent making a million bucks, u dont play in front of thousands of fans...etc etc etc, their is no loyalty in the private sector job market, nor should there be....the employee/employers does what best for said company....there is no emotion to it...

How so? You are being presumptious. Maybe he looking for a job because he's not ready to retire.

I think he's trying to secure a job before the draft. That's being smart. I'm sure you would do the same thing in his shoes.

the Jets arent the ones you have to worry about bro....the Pats are...they arent bound by the Final 8 Rule, therefore they can offer more cash to the man.....and if JT is all about the cash, then whats the difference between them and the Jets hmmmm???

I see your point. Many here have said the same thing and I'll say I finally agree.
JT is a shell of his former self as a player and the Dolphins aren't interested
he is free to go where he wants
I didn't want him back so I'm happy

Porter....Wake.....Wake was on pace to have double digit sacks....he barely played and had one less sack that JT, who was the primary guy....It really wouldnt be that big of a loss, I'll just miss his wisdom for the younger guys

I sure hope wake pans out.
the guy is a force getting to the QB
gets so low and gets under so quick
now if we can only get his hand off the ground and teach him about space
i am so looking forward to seeing if he has developed at all as an OLB

I agree JT is not the super player he once was, but he could help the young OLBs I hope we draft in a couple of weeks and Wake too. This FO has made mistakes in the FA signing every year. I won't call not signing JT a mistake, but I don't see how it could hurt the team if we sign him to a 1 yr deal for low money. I think it could hurt us more if he plays for a team in the division. He could already help an already good jest coach game plan.

Other FA's will be looking at the loyality position too when it comes to signing here in the future I believe.

Me too. I wish he would have played more last season. He's had this whole offseason to work on that.

yeah no doubt, Nolan is going to coach him up hardcore...Cams motor is just on overdrive, and his first step off the line is silly quick...you know he is money beating the guard on the outside edge, he needs to learn an inside move, and as the season went on, he started to develop it....u could see it.....and actually bro I would like to see him try to bullrush every once in a while, he is that strong....

Agreed on that, but see that inside LB we just poured a dump truck of cheddar on, it is his LB corp now, and has to be the leader....I wanna see the "C" on his shirt Week 1......

Obviously, the Dolphin organization shares you’re view.

Oh well. It looks like it’s going to be Dansby and some assorted group of misfits going into 2010. No wonder they paid so much for him.
