Report: Jason Taylor close to joining the Jets

douchey. Well I actually had the Jets taking Jerry Hughes so if this makes them pass him then I'm for it.

 

It's not like he's choosing between the jets and us. From what I understand we are unwilling to offer him anything until after the draft. So as I read that we are going to try and replace him and if we can't we will offer a contract.

That's a pretty crappy way to be treated IMO.

 

Sad to say the least!! really wish zach would make him come to his senses.

 

At this point, I'm kinda wishing Chuck Norris would make him come to his senses...

 

The Dolphins are jerking him around. He has every right to look somewhere else for an opportunity.

Don't hate on Jason if he signs. This is on our FO, the ball is in their court.

 

He can play in 25 other cities and I won't give a hoot....I have a hard time with him in a Jets uniform...that's just wrong!!

 

if i were the FO, i'd be treating him the same way .... obviously, this regime thinks we can get similar or better play from a rookie (unlike most pundits on this site) .... he was plan B last year -- and there is no reason to change that stance for this year ... JESTS or no JESTS ......

the best i would do for him is tell him that if the draft doesn't work out -- we'd easily match the JESTS offer .... conversely the JESTS are probably saying that theirs is only good to the draft -- so it puts him in a bind of sorts.

 

But why even look at the Jets.

He's a good player still. He would never last until late August un-signed. There's just too much demand for a playmaker like him. And I'm very confident he would've gotten $1.5 million per year from a handful of teams especially in an uncapped environment.

If he had a true distaste for the Jets he would've never done this. He would've waited it out a little longer for another team to knock on his door, and there's little doubt in my mind there would've been teams knockin

 

I wouldn't. I mean you never know what your going to get until you get it on the field. Perhaps we wiff and the player we draft to replace him just isnt good (worst case) or needs some time to develop (more likely). What we could sign him for especially in an uncapped year is peanuts.

I think the Jets offer is 2 years 3.5 million or close to it. Come on you sign him and if you hit a home run and find you don't need JT then you simply let him go. Keeping what essentially is out best OLB option that's not in the draft or on the roster at bay just doesn't make any sense to me.

But that's JMO.

 

Let me also add, that I think this is a complete FU from the Jets.

Had Jason Taylor been a career say Green Bay Packer, I don't think they look his way. Not when they already have the #1 ranked defense and only 1 available FA signing slot.

IMO, this is purely a signing out of spite.

 

Are you even aware that the Dolphins DID NOT offer JT a contract to date??
Living in NY I would hate to see him in a Jets uniform, it would sicken me to death,but I wouldnt blame Jason for it in the least. He stated he wants to remain a Dolphin. What more can he do?

I have a question for you, actually for ALL Dolphins fans. If the Jets organization offered you a job for, say 250 grand a year, would you take it? Or are you too loyal to the Dolphins as a fan- and your current job,- to take it?

I don't like the idea of Jason Taylor playing for the Jets any more than anyone else but the Dolphins are stringing him along, until, and if they draft a DE/LB in the draft. They traded him to the Redskins for a 2nd round choice and he still came back home and showed his Dolphin pride. Now they are jerking him around again and expect him to stay at home and twittle his thumbs until they decide what they want to do with him. The Jets are actively pursuing him and making it known how much they respect and want him.
They obviously see value in Jason Taylor that the Dolphons don't or wont.
I don't like it but I can understand why.
I just hope this doesn't really come back and haunt Ireland, Parcels and Sparano when we play the Jets twice this year.

 

Good to see there are a few that actually get it.

 

Jets don't want him for his value to their D.They are good enough without him. They are paying him for his knowledge in beating US twice next season or to call the FO's hand and sign him for more than he's worth.

 

If he signs with the Jets he's dead to me.

I don't want to hear all this...... "well what is he supposed to do if we don't sign him"

If the Jets are interested enough then there has to be another team besides the team he so often trashed and said he hated he could go to.

There are principles.
If he goes to NY he's a lifelong Jet as far as I"m concerned.

 

I was out of work for 9 months last year.

A company I knew for a fact was dirty and mafia owned offered me a job and I turned it down.

Principles.

Don't make this a feast or famine thing either.
If there is one team willing there is another.
If he goes there it's out of spite.
If he chooses the spite route then I will as well.

 

Jason Taylor has more than enough money to call it a career at this point I'm sure. As miserable as he was in Washington, seriously, does he think that he'll be happier with the Jets? As it stands their fanbase is split between wanting to quit as fans over this, and accepting it if it's the best for the team. Does he think he's not going to have an awful time there too?

I don't think Taylor will be the player he was even this year with us, if he goes there. I think he'll be the Redskins Taylor all over again. So I'm not overly worried about it.

That said, I am really disappointed in him. I'm not angry, I won't hate him, but seriously, just plain disappointed in his morality on the issue.

 

This is a touchy subject for all of us, but really, what do you expect him to do? If you had one company telling you "we might hire you, but first they had to see if there were any younger, cheaper alternatives out there" and another company saying, "come on down, we'll pay you well and you will be a big part of our company" what would you do? And stuff it with the "He's got tons of money and doesn't need to play." He's a football player and deserves to play the game as long as he wants. And he deserves to play for whoever offers him the most money and best situation.

It's a no brainer. It's sad our FO didn't treat him with more respect. If in the long run parting ways with JT now is better for our team I'll be able to forgive them. If it ends up hurting us and we don't find a replacement, and worse yet, JT hurts us as a JET then that will be another mistake under their belts.

I'm just as hurt by this as any of you, but I understand why JT is doing it. Yes, I'll lose respect for him. I'll have to if he's a Jet. It's the law and order of things. And that's what makes this sad for me. I'll have to hate him and I'm not sure if he deserves that. Oh well. Life goes on.

 

So far there is NONE ! Thats the point I`m trying to make.
If there were other teams knocking on his door and he chose the Jets,Then he can go to hell. IF the Jets are the only team to make him an offer whats he supposed to do retire because us fans will feel slighted otherwise ? Thats just rediculous. And lets not forget, JT didnt sign with them yet anyway. He still is waiting for the Dolphins to come forward.

Again, If the Jets are the ONLY team with an offer you think he should retire instead because you would be hurt? Thats just nuts IMO.

 

Man, no one in the FO is screwing JT around. Not one person. They've told him that they want to wait until after the draft. If he can't wait, fine. Just remember that the 2010 JT is not, and will not be the DPOY from 2007. He had a mediocre year last year, just barely better than Porter. We can only expect to have a less than last years' production from him this coming year. This is the business of the NFL. If the jests will pay him more than he's currently worth, that's their business. If he somehow can reach down and have a better year...well, that's the way it goes. The thing is, perhaps with the jests he'll have a slightly better year because of the surrounding cast, but we can't expect that he'll really be better than he was last year. That's not good enough for us this year...

 

I'm really not bothered by this. I think it's best to let Jason go and have an average season for the Jets than keep him here slowing us down. He's not a force anymore and the sooner we understand that the better. I'm sure the Jaguars aren't missing possible HOFer Tory Holt and nor is Tennessee missing Albert Haynesworth. Sometimes it's for the best and I'd hate to end up like Denver who fell apart last season with our old fogies. Especially considering they just added a 34 year old NT.

 

Ferguson (who had his best years with the Jets) is 35 now...

 

No offense to you, but in general I'm so tired of hearing this.

It's an uncapped year! Does anyone really believe that the Jets are the only team that would've offered Jason Taylor 1.35 million a year?

And it's only April 9th for crying out loud. Guys like Jason Taylor and Terrel Owens will have no problems finding a team after the draft. NONE, NADA! They're playmakers, proven commodities, and teams that are a player or 2 away like the packers, giants maybe, colts, etc, etc will always be willing to take a chance at 1.35 million.

This was NOT going to be his only offer. And I'm fairly certain of it

 

I agree, the Dolphins have had several months to sign him and didn't. If Jason wants to play, who are we to say that he can't. I wish the Dolphins would sign him, but only if he has some gas left in the tank. Jason is only a average player these days, but he can still play IMO. I'm just reminded of what the Bills did with Thurman Thomas.

Jason will always be a Dolphin in my mind and he will end up in the Ring of Fame at Joe Robbie Stadium

 

Everyone agrees salaries will be lower because of the uncapped year. No Salary Floor. Plus, it's real money, it's Monopoly money to us, but this is the first year in a while the Owners aren't required to spend a minimum of their money.

If JT goes to the Jets, blame the FO, not him. Principles are easy to spew from an armchair. Not so hard when it's your life.

Ohhhh PUH-LEASE!!!!! So him being a Jet for ONE year eradicates his TWELVE years here? What principles? He doesnt owe you or me or the Dolphin organization anything. It's his career and I know you wouldn't appreciate someone telling you what to do with your career. He wants a ring, let him go get it. I think there's more to his life than just NFL rivalries.

 

Just have a funny feeling that this is not even close to being "a done deal" and this will be dragged on until after the draft. Alot of HOOEY from an agent and reporters with an agenda

 

It would royally, royally suck if JT went to the Jets. But I can't say I blame him.

Like most men, JT is a prideful guy. He wants nothing more than to play for the Miami Dolphins. But it took an Armando Salguero article detailing the non-existent communication from the Miami front office for the Dolphins to even reach out. Basically the Dolphins had to take a PR hit for them to do anything. How's that for respect?

Meanwhile you've got Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum making him priority #1. Rolling out the red carpet. Catering to his unique situation and begging him to join a team that was one game away from the Super Bowl. And make no mistake, JT wants a ring. Why wouldn't he? Hell, a ring probably gets him into the Hall of Fame.

Sure it's an uncapped year. But the Jets are offering him the maximum they're allowed to under the Final Four rule. That's $1.9 million more than Miami is offering.

And it's probably not wise to use 2009 to forecast 2010 with the Jets. Totally different situations.

In Miami, he was playing out of position on the strong side. And down the stretch, he was playing mostly first and second down.
In New York, Rex Ryan has told him that there will be no dropping into coverage. No playing the run. Jason Taylor will be a situational pass rusher, roving all over the field much the way he did in 2006, and much the way he was supposed to last season before the Matt Roth situation blew up.

Despite Darrelle Revis, their exotic blitz packages and ability to create pressure, the Jets struggle to get there with four rushers. NYJ ranked 18th overall in sacks last year (Miami was 3rd).

Jason Taylor is exactly what they need. And every day that our front office puts him off, the more he is going to be drawn to NY. It's just natural. And I don't blame him.

 

His agent says nothing will happen until next week (if anything does).
