It's not as if they traded Jason Taylor against his will and he was good enough in the kindness of his heart to come out. He requested a trade.

Jason Taylor isn't the kind of player who can challenge Jake Long or Vernon Carey anymore.

What exactly is the difference between Taylor going to the Jets and Pennington coming here?

The Dolphins organization has no plans for Taylor. Taylor wants to play a couple more years. And now the best defense in the league has a spot for him.

    Everyone is happy.

Losing JT could be a tough emotional loss for the fans and the team itself, but just like it was sad to see Zach Thomas go, everything has an expiration date. Every player and every team faces the day they must say good bye.

I wish they would sign him but we must have faith that they realize they must rebuild for the future. Could JT buy us another year before filling the spot? Probably, but that apparently is not on their plate.

Look for us to draft many LB's

What makes you think he's got anything left?

He's essentially a bottom feeder as a pass rusher at this point. He's got 10.5 sacks in the last two years(Mediocre at best), and look where they came. He's got 2.5 vs. Buffalo's Kirk Chambers. He had two vs. the Saints when they came out with a 1-5 nickel package in the first half they clearly weren't prepared for. He had 2 vs. the corpse of Jon Runyan in 2008.

Other than that? Not much. Go look at his game-by-game Pro Football Focus pressure listings, he got completely blanked in terms of pressure in some big games.

I just can't understand all the JT haters. How is he good enough for one of this league's best defense, but isn't good for us? Just nonsense.....he is still plenty productive and means soooo much to our organization and fan base.

I truly believe that Parcells and the FO just don't want it to look like they aren't in complete control of what happens with our players. By that I mean that they don't want to step down off their high horse and admit that JT is still worth a lot more then the little credit they give him.

It has been about Parcells and his ego ever since the first year he came in and cleaned house on our two most popular fanchise players. Now he doesn't want it to look like he is at all doing anything thats not on his terms only. Bunch off s**t!

lol...do you get the Dolphins games where you live?

All things considered he had a pretty decent year last season, you must have missed that

I guess you're smarter than one of the better defensive minds in football tho, since Rexy seems to disagree

He was injured while in Washington, so that explains the lower two year sack totall. If he had the same numbers while there his totals would be far better, so I don't think that is a fair statement

First off the fix was to correct a presentation of thought, and present opinion as just that opinion and not fact.

Why do I feel he has something left in the tank? Well here is my thinking.

Last year he had 7 sacks, 5 Passes defensed, 3 forced Fumbles, and 1 Interception (for a TD Blown official call). He did while being regulated to playing mainly on 1st and 2nd down. So non passing downs. He was asked to play the run instead of do what he does best which is rush the passer. Also he did a pretty good job at setting the edge against the run. For what its worth he was ranked the 4th best 3-4 OLB against the rush, and 8th as rushing the passer. All this done in a very bland Pasqualoni Defense.

Will I be overly upset if we don't bring him back? Well I guess it all will depend on how the OLBs that are replacing him do this season. Do I think we should sign him for 2 Years 3.5 Mill? Hell yes. Best case scenario if we see what we have is better and we let him go. Worst case we miss on our picks and he's here to help pick up the slack.

may look at him after the draft
in the meantime he has visited the Jets and might sign there
the FO is okay with that

Jason has reportedly left NY without a deal. Apparently he'll make a decision pretty soon.
    http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d81767d00&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

If he leaves it was fun. If he retires It was a great ride. If he re-signs I hope we still pretend we have no OLB's during the draft. If he signs with the Jets then it's a positive for us moving forward. We could speed up our Defense and make this a good draft. I'm hoping we find another Jason in the third round this year. The guy attended Akron. I think this draft is ripe with low rounder with huge potential.

    I'm 100% with you.

I also look at JT doing this to give Parcells & Ireland a big FU finger because of the way he was treated in 2008 with his Dancing with the Stars deal. This kills several birds for both the Jets and JT.

But still, as much as he trashed the Jets in the past, this is the absolute in selfishness for JT. If he was loyal to the Dolphins he would not even consider this.

My fear, is he goes there and they win a SB and JT then retires a Jet, and chooses to go into the HoF as a Jet.

How many of you guys who are supporting him, would support him then ?

How about all that respect he showed the FO in 2008 when he went Dancing with the Stars ? Parcells asked him not to do it - he still went and did it, and then strung the Dolphins FO along even after it was over about his "return". They traded him, when he went down that street.

JT is being selfish, no which way you cut it. He can afford to wait, as his services won't be used until the end of TC anyways.....remember he doesn't do OTA's and TC anymore. Its not pressing he do this now. This is purely his selfishness getting in his head again.

Difference is the things JT has said in the past. Pennington never showed any dislike or outward hatred for the Dolphins as was expressed many times over and over by JT. This now makes him look like a huge hypocrite.

So far, the Jets are the only team prepared to cut Taylor a check.

He wants to play football and he will.

This might be the most ridiculous post yet I've seen on this subject. The nerve of that SOB wanting to have a job. He had committed to that show before the high and mighty trifecta of football greatness had ever shown up. Lets all bow down and worship Bill Parcells, winner of zero playoff games in Miami. When he says jump, say how high. And none of that is even relevant anymore anyway. He came back for cheap and played out of position all season. He was the best LB on the team. He was so good they felt they could cut Matt Roth. Now they are telling him to sit around and wait while they try to find somebody better than him. Like they're doing him a huge favor. It's an insult to a hall of fame player and a player who has made countless impact plays for YOUR Miami Dolphins. The thanks he gets is that he is selfish while the FO that has been here all of two years can do no wrong. Wonderful.

This is my only issue with the whole deal. There is a HUGE difference. Pennington never bad mouthed the Dolphin's fans, team, or organization. Not once. JT did repeatedly. This, IMO, makes this whole thing stink worse than week old sweat under Rex's moobs.

favre going to the vikings, mcnabb to the redskins, i think we're making too big a deal out of him going to the jets. every year he plays is another year closer to being a backup. its like musical chairs. eventually the music stops and someone gets stuck with him. better a division rival. he's getting dinged every year now. if you take away the name and substitute 35 year old linebacker it makes perfect sense

The bigger issue might be how loyal is he to the Dolphins? Who's to say the Jets even have him on their opening day roster? Does he have information that might help the Jets game plan? Tips about our schemes? Tips on OL weaknesses?

I know it's a little late but man what an April Fools joke would this be.

I don't recall Parcells specifically asking him not to do it. I recall he made the agreement to appear on DWTS when the previous regime was still in power and they gave their blessing.

I do agree it is not pressing that he get a deal done anytime soon. IMO his value will go up all along and will really go up when TC opens. A team loses a starter or two, like the Skins did at DE in 2008, and all the sudden JT is a hotter commodity.

Yes I think the average person on this site would take 250K from pretty much everyone, BUT JT has tons of money and he can make this same money elsewhere or very close to it. He doesn't need to sign with the Jets, he has other options. Maybe deep down he never really had much loyalty to the Phins. I doubt Zach Thomas would put on a Jets or Patriot's uniform but I guess JT can be bought pretty easily? Do what you have to do JT but don't expect any Dolphin fans to support you or clap if you ever make the Hall of Fame.
