Yeah sometimes move don't work out, the fact remains that they have spent a ton of money and picks on offense over the last few years. We have one of the most expensive lines in the league and have spent a lot of draft picks on offense. People seem to forget the defense rolling over last year, our offense would have been plenty to make the playoffs if our defense could hold someone. Yeah we could use a playmaker but this silly 'its time to storm the front office with torches and pitchforks' every time a team trades draft picks for a player is crazy. Holmes is pending a suspension, its not rocket science that he didn't have huge trade value right now, its not rocket science why we stayed away from him either.
Our offensive additions were largely budget items; Wilford wasn't exactly the marquee WR in his free agency period, nor was he given a particularly large contract, for example. Our five receivers are either holdovers (Camarillo, Ginn) or were taken lower in the draft (Turner, Hartline) or just plain undrafted (Bess.) Our starting quarterback is a late 2nd round pick, and his backups are a 5th round trade, another 2nd round pick, and a free agent with a rehabbing shoulder. He throws to a tight end who was acquired in a 2-for-1 deal for a 4th round pick. The big money invested in offense has been along the offensive line, which isn't quite the same as saying we've invested big money in the offense in general. We've overinvested in one specific unit of the offense. The WRs, TEs, and RBs are all holdovers padded for depth with low-price FAs and low draft picks of questionable quality. Prior to signing Dansby, the OL comprised 1/3 of our salary structure. IMO, the general weight of this front office's rebuilding efforts have gone to defense, both in terms of amount of players acquired and in general scouting efforts. The defensive players Ireland and Parcells have brought in or re-signed are generally better than the offensive players they've brought in or re-signed. Our offense was 15th overall in scoring in 2009. This is not a playoff caliber offense. Hell, it wasn't a playoff caliber offense in 2008, either, as we saw against Baltimore. No one's forgotten that the defense rolled over week after week. But to reverse the premise, some seem to have not noticed that the offense got worse and worse as the season progressed. There were some bright spots, but those who would have us draft all defense are basically counting on three injured running backs, a fractured OL, and one of the worst groups of receivers in the NFL to magically improve just because the quarterback will have a full offseason of work as the appointed starter. Doesn't work that way. The offense needs real help, just like the defense does. The rebuilding continues.
Not so much a jab at you but the thread in general, I hate reading this stuff after every move another team makes, this offseason has been particularly trying.
Wow what great friggin news to wake up too. We support Jason Ferguson who will miss 8 eight games but want no part of a guy who would be our #1. Holmes, Hartline with Bess in the slot wouldve been just fine.... The old man is going senial...I satrted to wonder after he drafted Bobby carpenter who I watched alot of if sometimes the Tuna doesnt deserve as much credit as he gets. Their arrogance to think theyre smart enough to strike gold just cost us a chance to have a WR with good hands and can stretch defenses. Thanks fella's...I was looking foward to seeing another group of average at best recievers on our team.
Screw this go get marshall damm it.We are as we stand a 3rd place team and the jets are getting better every day.The jets are going to win ths division next year if they stay healthy and we might win 8 games. We need to take some chances and get some playmakers or this regime is going to get fired next year and we will have wasted 4 years for nothing.
Leon Washington is also supposedly wrapped up into this deal. Which sounds dubious as he hasn't signed his tender so he cannot be traded. Eh, don't even bother listening to the Big Slow or El Sid as they will be peeing themselves over this one, Irish's poor media relationship will now cause the people he has been treating like crap to now egg on the Phinsfanbase. Ireland needs a big draft this year and not some bull**** about Pat Turner being lowcut or whatever.
The most repeated load of crap goin when it comes to the Dolphins. Dont get me wrong, the D had its issues to be sure, but blaming our problems on one side of the ball or the other is crazy. Atlanta. San Diego. Buffalo x2. New England x2. @ NY Jets. New Orleans. Carolina. Tampa Bay. Jacksonville. All games where the defense played well and/or outplayed the offense. I'd love to hear your opinion on which games the D "rolled over" in.
Great twitters from Mandy, Mr P. He was really on a role there. Funny, yet sad, because they are true. Can we trade Jeff Ireland for Ozzie Newsome?
Well, the Ozman has had a long time to establish himself, Irish has had 3 drafts, 2 in Miami, 1 Dallas, but to me for him it's crunchtime because last yr's draft was a stink bomb at the#2 #3 and #5 picks. We cannot afford to have that sort of crappy draft this year.
Um did you watch the last 3 games of the year? The Indy game? At least spend a minute to look into something before declaring it crap. We had a 2nd year Qb and our best player was injured (Ronnie) and we still scored enough to make the playoffs. Sometimes I wonder if fans watch the games or just make crap up. You really think our offense won't improve with Henne having a year of starting experience and a healthy Ronnie? If we can add some pieces thats great, we should do it but we will not make the playoffs if our defense does not improve. Last time I checked you can't win a championship without making the playoffs first.
Why do people on this board worship Ronnie Brown? Its only on the forums where people love Ronnie, but at the games and bars from people I know that played some type of organized football, all feel Ronnie is highly overrated. I get it, someone is gonna make a smart comment about me being obsessed with Ricky, well at least he's durable and people seem to forget he ran almost 1900 yards in a season and he has the same body size as Zach Thomas. People here are obsessed with Ronnie brown but hasn't done anything. Ronnie has no top end speed, no acceleration, and for his size is not that good of a blocker. And for the Jets, good for them. Any Fin fan that says we're better than the Jets as of right now is delusional and need to turn off their computer and get some fresh air.
Why do you feel the need of bashing Ronnie in every single thread? He's our best player on offense like it or not
its disappointing to see the jets making moves to get better and we are going at it too but very patiently, hope they have a really really good plan. as for the jets wrs, braylon will still consistently drop a ton of passes. i have to say holmes may be overrated. hines ward is what makes the steelers #2 wr seem very good along with ben. it seems like they get a lot production from the 2 spot because of ward drawing the best coverage. also i wouldnt give to much credit to the SB mvp title, as weve seen in the past that title has brought failures to some who won mvp.
Makes me utterly sick. This front office is pathetic. I had high hopes for these guys but regardless of the oppertunites that are available they refuse to budge. There is no way on this esrth this team will win the division. That means were loojing at wikd card. I hate the jets with all my heart but I have to say im jealous of them right now. They are tryiNg to bolster there team with talent. Our front office is losing all our talent and not replacing them with anything worthy. This trade was a jok in the 5th round there is not going to be a wideout of his caliber. In all honesty if this year dosent pan out with a deep playoff run I hope Ross makes some moves. You cant get by on your past any longer. Stop thinking you can draft an entire teams needs in 4 or 5 years even. Hey ireland ypu suck some time you know
Great. The Jets get Holmes for a 5th and us Dolphin fans will have to settle for hearing bull**** from Sparano all season about how Pat Turner is doing GREAT in training camp.
Are you guys paying attention? Other teams weren't allowed to bid for Holmes. There's no reason to be bashing the FO here. NONE.
totally agree someone needs to declare a suicide watch here at the site we clearly have way too many fair weather fans bashing the FO for a trade that didnt involve our team people are ridiculous
I name 11 games where the D held thier own and you respond with 4 games where they didnt. And you wonder why I call it crap? C'mon man. Yes we had a 2nd year QB and we lost our best offensive weapon. We also started two rookie CBs and lost our best CB, NT and LB to injury. I'd say that evens it out quite a bit. Soliai was hurt. Porter and Taylor also. Vontae missed most of the Steelers game. Smiley, Grove, Carey, Ricky, Fasano, half the team wasnt healthy at one time or another. But again, if youre going to trying to blame one side of the ball for the team's losses, you dont know what youre talking about.
My second favorite team just shafted my first favorite team. Looks like they'll now be replaced by my former third favorite team. It's now: Dolphins Bucs Steelers
Well, I know that his rookie contract ends this year. So, as of now, we can say the Jets have traded a 5th round pick for 12 games of service. Could still be worth it, I'm afraid.
What you are saying simply isn't true. Holmes and his agent weren't allowed to talk to teams leading up to this trade. But that obviously didn't stop the Jets nor should it have stopped any other FO from asking the Steelers about his availability. The Jets didn't have some exclusive dibs on Holmes that other teams were precluded from. So while maybe it's true that the Dolphins didn't have a chance to outbid the Jets for Holmes, it doesn't change the fact that once again the Jets front office has done a better job than us at addressing their needs, especially at WR. They turned over every stone and got a bargain. Meanwhile our FO sticks their noses high at "problem" receivers or "diva" receivers.
Gee, I wonder if the Jets are going to get the hardest schedule in the NFL for almost going to the big game last year? The NFL certainly punished us with a horrific schedule for our success didn't they? That was like being spanked bare assed in front of your friends. If they don't get a schedule equal to what we had all of us should petition the NFL in protest.
yeah and what did they do first, and have?? They sured up their already potent defense with AC, and then went after a WR....and they have the best defense in the league...this moves makes all the sense in the world, given the state of the Jets....I admire their agressiveness, and hopefully it takes them out of the running for Marshall...
Dont think its been mentioned , but Holmes is in his final year of his current contrat. which adds him to the list of players the Jets will need to pay next year. Guys like Revis, D'Brick, Mangold, Harris, Edwards, Cromarte. Not to mention that if Holmes so much as sneezes the wrong way this year, he's done for a year. The Jets are gambling that they can win it all this year. but if they don't, it could backfire on them. I could be way off on this, but thats how I see it.
that and he is in a contract year....with a 4 gamer looming, the Steelers didnt want to pay the guy...
Maybe this move makes them a .500 team within the division this year. Seriously, its a nice move for the Jets, but all this talk about that organization being a "contender," I'll withhold judgement.
I'm sure every single teams' message boards are going off about not giving up a 5th for Santonio. If the fans had their way every FO person would be hanging in the streets of their respective cities. Right now the Jets look like the actual geniuses of the NFL. We will see if 30 other teams whiffed or new something they didn't.
Who does? You play your inner division rivals twice every year and then rotate with another division. But, the NFL decides if you play the best teams out of conference or the worst teams out of conference - don't they? IE: Dallas v- Washington ( both in the same division ) You'll notice that Buffalo had the same rotation but didn't play the best teams out of conference like we did.
the schedule was hard because the formula is you play your divison 2X=6 games, then you the AFC and NFC division of th same region..ie...East, South, West, etc which equals 8 games, then the last 2 games are filled out by where you finished the year before and they pick another division to do that from.... so the last year when they had the tougest schedule it was because it was the perfect storm, u have our division, then it was the AFC and NFC South, which are 2 very good conferences, then the fill in games were 2 first place teams (Pitt, and SD) this year it is again ours, the AFC and NFC North, and 2 3rd place teams....ie Oakland and Tenn....
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d817772e1&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true Do you honestly believe our front office would tolerate his 'off field' criminal BS? He is a a good player but a disturbing influence. Who needs another Joey Porter?
