for all the "where was our FO" people on this board?? mortreport RT @AndyKing40: @mortreport was no one else involved? where was Parcells & Fins? >> You don't know Parcells, if u think he'd be involved
Thanks finyank13, But the 'region formula' seems to fail when they put the southern most team in the NFL in a division where they must play all of their away inner division games across the country, in cold weather and on turf when they are a warm weather grass team. Literally, this is happening to no other team in the NFL. Dallas is the closest one to this but some of their rivals play on the same turf and they don't lose a whole days prep time in travel as their inner division games aren't as far away as our are.. So the question to the NFL remains: WHY WEREN'T WE IN THE NEWLY ALIGNED AFC SOUTH DIVISION? AND IF THEY WEREN'T GOING TO ALIGN THE TEAMS PROPERLY WHY MAKE AN AFC SOUTH DIVISION AT ALL~!?!! How far does, Buffalo, NE or the NYJ have to travel to play each other? We have no one but they NFL to thank for that..!@#$%^&*()_
AMEN cobrajet......it's about time someone said this. The NFL with their division BS and having us fly up to the NE to play in snowstorms when we are a southern team is total BS. What the JETS do or not do shouldn't even be our concern because they are 1/2 a continent away. We should be in the AFC South instead of Indy? What is south about the Indy Colts?
I agree too, but simply put Miami has good rivarlies with all 3 teams in the East....not so much with the Bills lately, but for a while in the late 80's early 90's they duked it out (Buffalo always kicked our arse in).....then more recently the Pats and Jets.....2 teams with very good rivarlies going, it almost wouldnt be the same if Miami playing in the AFC South, and they switched out say Indy....I would hate to see Jax, Tenn, Houston 2X....it is always sweeter when you beat the Jets or the Pats.... dont forget they have to travel down to SoFo as well..
Now would probably be a good time to bring in Brandon Marshall For a team that only throws the ball 15 times a game the Jets sure are stacked at receiver...
Too many pages of the thread to wade through, but ESPN is reporting he'll be suspended for the first 4 games of the season: http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5077088 But still, for a 5th, thats a steal no less
Seriously right?? I mean how is Pat Bowlin, and McDaniels feeling waking up this morning, as they reads reports of Holmes for a 5th, and they are trying to get a 1st for Marshall....might want to shorten those expectation Patty!!!
Yea if they are going to lower the asking price now would be the time and we could be first in line. I still don't see it happening though
I wanna make clear that its that issue burns me and not you. I am not killing the messenger here as we share the same pain. These other teams traveling down to Florida is a vacation from the cold weather for them my friend. No one flies from Florida to the Meadowland for a vacation. The fact that "Miami has good rivarlies with all 3 teams in the East...." means that the NFL would rather fix their schedule for ticket sales than be fair, ........ and if you go that far, you go right back to my original point of how the NFL always screws us. If we were in the AFC South we probably would have had an SB or two by now. I think we should all write the commish. He is from Buffalo area and is trying to save the failing / bankrupt Bills franchise with our rivalry tickets, but in the meantime the NFL is screwing us out of the big game.
qoute from nfl.com The Jets have been one of the most active teams in the league this offseason. They traded for CB Antonio Cromartie, and signed RB LaDainian Tomlinson in free agency. They also brought in DE Jason Taylor for a two-day visit last week, but no deal was consummated. The FO in green has been working hard Fishing must be good in Florida cause their not at work.
This. First of all Ricky isnt as durable as he used to be, we was clearly wearing down this past year, I think he needs to spliut carries more than Ronnie does. Secondly Ronnie is an excellent blocker, in fact he is a more versatile RB than Ricky. Why do you only post to whine about something and never contribute anything of value to this site? Jesus, he smoked some pot BIG ****ING DEAL. Before you call him a character concern let me remind you that Incognito is bat**** insane and we resigned a guy who was suspended for half the season.
Enough of the crap guys, stop acting like character issues are the reasons this front office does or doesn't make moves. IF that was truly the case we have 3/4 players who should be released right now for issues on and off the field. I will however say that Holmes was to be released and is due a 4/5 game suspension but for a 5th round pick they still got a deal. 4 games is nothing for a quality receiver. The JETS are BUILDING FAST have a much better defense than us, have more weapons on Offense than us though I would take our QB over Theirs however neither has proved they are Stars yet... Henne is having to really work for it without anyone to catch the ball.
I do think that Crunch made a good point about bringing him back to where all these troubles started. Not exactly a great idea to have him hang around his Belle Glade boys.
I was very disappointed to wake up this morning and read about this trade to the Jets. Where were Parcells / Ireland, and why didn't Miami show any serious interest in aquiring Holmes??... Now, I'm not saying Holmes would have been that #1 WR we've been searching for, but for a 5th round pick, he would have certainly improved our current situation...
Dolphins told Pitt to stick it.....even though it doesnt say Miami per se, not to hard to figure out if they did call "everyone", then Miami would have been the first 3 teams called.....think about it..... Parcells said "I got this one Irish, go back to bed"..... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/12/steelers-called-everyone-regarding-santonio-trade/
I don't think this is a reason to hyperventilate. Yeah, the Jets have a good defense which should be expected when their HC is Buddy Ryan's kid, and yes, they have been very active during the off season - BUT - the teams is a powder keg. With all of those egos on that team they will never hold it together. It'll be like having a dozen Joey Porters up there with a coach that is a big mouthed loose cannon. I think they are going spastic and probably spending a lot of money on players that are washed up or long shots who may or may not have remaining talent. Of those players Holmes is the best. But with his track record do ya really want him and his 4 game suspension? All they have is a new stadium and delusions of grandeur.
Relax guys, all they have is green and white and arrogance....The jets are doing more in FA and we'll do more in the draft. It'll all equal out. JETS = stupidity Were gonna kill em!
Wait a minute, I must be reading wrong... Are people actually now suggesting the NFL move us to the AFC South and bring Indy to the AFC East? Are we now that afraid?
That was my post, and no I am not afraid of the Jets or anyone else, it was just a wound that has festered for years. Don't read into it. It really has nothing to do with this thread.......sorry.
The front office getting so much flak on this board is flat out ridiculous. How quickly some forget we were 1-15 when they took over and quickly transformed us into a contender. They got us a franchise quarterback in Chad Henne, an All-Pro left tackle in Jake Long, solid depth on the offensive line, solid receivers in Davone Bess and Brian Hartline, a Pro Bowl caliber fullback in Lousaka Polite, two emerging corners in Vontae Davis and Sean Smith, two solid starters along the defensive line in Randy Starks and Kendall Langford, a team leader in Chad Pennington, and going out and getting Mike Nolan and Karlos Dansby to fix the defense. But let's keep *****ing that they've made a few mistakes along the way. It's ludicrous. This front office has done an amazing job and we haven't even had the draft yet and people want to charge team headquarters with pitchforks. It unreal.
So far, all they've really done is set us on course to be a pretty decent team..... and that doesn't exactly match the hype nor the holier than tho egos this bunch carries. It's your right to be thrilled with them...... not all of us are at this point. And after watching years of ppl saying the same thing you are about past failed regimes, I don't drink anyone's kool aid.
I wonder, and this may sound crazy, but...does the league office ever get involved when a deal appears to be so terribly lopsided? I mean, unless there's more to it than Holmes straight up for a 5th, the Jests just flat out stole him.
hahahahhahhaah Jets get S. Holmes signed for 1 year @ $755K and suspended 4 games. Dolphins sign J. Ferguson 1 year @ $1.65 million and suspended 8 games.
Disagree. In 2 seasons, our o-line is as strong as any, our secondary is a S away from being set for a decade, we've added a star play-making LB who's presence alone will automatically allow our other ILB to improve...and oh by the way, the qb position is EASILY the best it has been in a decade, including a possible franchise QB. In 2 seasons. This franchise was one of the most poorly run in sports when this regime took over.
Gman, they were going to release him anyway, and were calling teams to see if anybody wanted to bite, 2 sources were saying they were going to unload him for a 6th, before the Jets stepped in and gave them a 5th...I mean when u think about it, a 5th isnt a bad job...honestly, teams would have just waited until he got cut....he is in a contract year, being suspened for 4 games.... Bottom line they were thru with him, and his sheet....had Wallace to replace him...I dont think they wanted to carry his suspension, and possiblly Ben's going into the season.....
Thanks FY. Just sucks IMO. Bet Fat *** Rex uses this as leverage to get JT to sign to boot. Man, I just frickin' hate the Jests!
If we do end up drafting Dez Bryant, not making a move for Santonio makes sense. Dez wouldn't need the influence of someone who "wakes and bakes". If we don't draft Dez then I'm still at a loss.
Brother, I liken this to the mid-90's Baltimore Orioles, remember they had everybody, Brady Anderson (juiced up), Mussina, Palmerio, etc etc etc, had the highest payroll, and didnt even make the playoffs... the Jets are looking very very impressive on paper, but as we know, very very violitile too.....for every good thing that they could do, I can see a bad thing as well....I think that team could fly off the handle...
I posted this in the Club thread, and will do so here as well. According to Norm hidgkis of the local Dallas radio, Pittsburgh called every single team, and this is the best offer they got. Keep in mind, this is from a Dallas Cowboy faithfull, so the view is much different than ours. I don't think its a steal at all. There is much more to this story. Also, one thing the Stillers FO doesn't do, is make mistakes.
Well when you're starving and someone hands you a bologna sandwich.........you scarf it down and smile at them like they just fed you a steak. And for those of you dismissing Holmes as tho he's of little value......the guy had 1250 yds last year. For a 5th round pick that's a no brainer
steal, no brainer whatever you want to call the holmes deal but i'll stick with the FO on this one and take their side over the irrational knee jerkers here. they have a plan and i trust in that.
