I just heard that because of all of the problems Roethlisberger has caused he could possibly be let go from the steelers!! This opens up a quarterback position on their team because they sure aint going to use Batch. Do you think they might be interested in trading us for either thig or penny? sorry couldnt find source, heard it on radio.
Ben won't be released, releasing Pennington would also be a mistake. He plays a crucial role in Henne's development
I wouldnt say crucial. He has had two years with him, thats 2 more years than most QBs get under such a smart player like penny. Its now time to see if Henne can fly on his own...we do have a QB coach ya know.
Pennington very well may be traded. He was brought back with a trade buy out included in his contract. If we can gain a mid round pick for him from a desperate QB depleted team at some point, it will probably happen.
naw but i do think we will rade our 12 for there 18 so that they can draft dez braynt at 12....we might get a LB at 18 or maybe even dt, saftey
This. If Tuna intends to get some value from Pennington I really don't think it'll happen until way after the draft, if someone gets hurt during the preseason or training camp. There are still some decent QBs available in Free Agency this point, don't forget. Also, I don't see The Berger being traded, atleast not unless he gets into more "situations" and he sure as hell isn't going to get released.
KB, you're a tough crowd lately .... i do hope that they put some chararcter clause in his contract -- but Marshall for 5 years at that price is good every day of the week (especially since i have been advocating this move all off season). Do we really think PIT will get rid of Big Ben ... i highly doubt it ... even with the Rooney family. BUT, CP could function in that offense - since they aren't a deep threat minded team. Conversely, with BM added to the fold -- what is the likelihood that CP takes the reins (barring some total collapse by Henne) as some have intimated here .... i can't think of 1 circumstance that makes that happen. We are going to go after 'chunks' ... not 5 yard chunks ... 10-15 yard chunks ....
I find it hard to believe the Steelers would trade a 2x SB QB (in 6 years) who has won 69% of all his games and is 27 y.o. What I think is that these rumors are being circulated by the club itself to emphasize their dissatisfaction with Ben and quell some of the criticism that they don't care. But when push comes to shove, unless they can get a Rivers, Brees or Brady type in return, they'd be nuts and irresponsible IMO to trade this guy. What they'll end up doing is hiring a wetnurse for him, a little like the drunken Beverly Hillbilly did a few years ago for Pacman. Me, I love Henne, but I'd trade em straight up if that opportunity ever presented itself.
Agree 100%, though the idea of the #1 overall this year and a top 5 first rounder next year is nice compensation, especially when you consider the Rooney family doesn't take crap (and were going to release S. Holmes outright to prove it). Not sure if I agree. I think I'd be more worried about Big Ben in Miami then most people are about BM. In any case, welcome to a Fins forum that actually works! Your FH hilarity was always appreciated.
That's what I was thinking, when I read the thread title. Henne and a fourth for Big Ben? Ben has proven himself on the biggest of stages, while Henne is still more "potential" than proven. It would be an interesting trade, as both sides would probably benefit. The Steelers FO gets to maintain the high standards they've set, Ben gets a wake up call about his conduct, and the Phins get a proven franchise QB for the next 5-6 years. Never happen though.
