read what niner fans think...they act as if they just traded for Marshall. http://forums.49ers.com/messageboard/showthread.php?t=94516
They don't seem to be going that wild. They got a homerun returner for a 5th round pick. It's a good move that I would be happy about.
Wow. Not really surprised but I wanted to see him get a chance now that we have an elite receiver on our team. Like him or not he was always a hard worker and I wish him nothing but luck in San Francisco.
Not this year, no. But assuming there's a 2011 season and beyond, his contract was too high for someone who's only value came in returning kicks. I don't like the trade either, but that's still future money not having to be spent now.
A homerun returner? He didnt even reture punts more than a few times last year and was extremely inconsistent in the kick return game. Sure he has the potential to break loose but he only did it in 1 out of 16 games. Im not even sure he's worth a 5th....i thought we'd have to settle for a 6th.
Might be a revolving door at WR2 spot... I could see different packages opening doors but Hartline will likely win this unless Denver is crazy enough to let us get Bryant too! Maybe even Spiller? Craziness! I love the fact the FO seems a little unpredictable now...
They're getting ready to have an orgy in 49ers country. My God, they're excited. http://forums.49ers.com/messageboard/showthread.php?t=94516 Edit: Just saw this was already posted, I'm late again. Guess it's better than my girlfriend being late.
They got a guy who is one year removed from having 850 yards from the LOS, for a fifth rounder, a million dollars. We got a guy who is clearly better, but we paid out the yin yang for it, with two 2s, and $50 million bucks.
Then we could cut him the next season, or when the contract begins to be unaffordable. Considering this is an uncapped year and that he really doesn't make a whole lot this year, I can't believe that this move was made for monetary purposes.
You cant teach someone how to catch the damn ball either. Good riddance.Maybe a change of scenery will do him good.
His drops were a mental issue IMO. He knows how to catch the ball. However, you can't teach someone to not be afraid of contact. The problem for Ginn is that he's going to a team without a solid QB and other legit WR options. I suspect he'll be the same player there as he was here.
There is a big pay difference for not being a wuss in the NFL. Who knew? Sorry. I couldn't resist. I am only joking. Don't hold it against me please
We went how many years without a return touchdown? Let me ask you, do you expect to return a kick for a touchdown next year, now?
Its kind of embarrassing to think we just traded away a ninth overall pick for a fifth. I hope Cameron is sitting somewhere squirming and sweating.
Samon Satele was another guy I thought they had a short leash on. Why he couldn't have provided depth at Center and competed for RG these last two years... well, I guess that's why I'm not in the business.
I think its more embarrassing to have an individual that's scared of contact suit up in aqua and orange on a weekly basis. He clearly lacked every single bullet point in the definition of "the make-up" that Ireland looks for in his players. Its addition by subtraction from a purely cultural standpoint. He didn't fit here, and it showed. He lacked awareness, physicality and perhaps most damning -- heart.
ESPN just flashed some interesting stats on Ginn: Never had more than 2 td's in a season. 38 rec. 454, one td last yr. 9.3 drop pct last season (4th highest in NFL)
Last week I surmised Ginn would be a good fit in San Fran, but I dismissed the idea thinking Singletary wouldn't want a player who is scared of being hit. Guess I was wrong, and therefore right?
Meh I think Hardkore's right. He's going to a team who is more shaky at QB than we are...he's going to struggle.
The important thing is we can move on and move forward. This regime is successful because it is honest in it's self-assessments. It didn't hang onto Ginn hoping for market value when it already knew he had little value to the regime itself. It's like a divorce... are you better off haggling and dwelling on who gets the good china, or just letting it go for less than it's 'worth' so you can move on? Now we can move ahead with our plans, and the RIGHT 53 players. Expect a player with return ability in this draft.
Naa E, he's probably just laughing his a$$ off wherever he is. Man, hard to believe in just a couple of days we added arguably one of the top 2-3 wideouts in the game, and got rid of Ginn. Something tells me '10 is gonna be one helluva season. Go Phins!
Where Holmes showed more mettle on the field, however, Ginn is a model citizen and hard worker off of it. Also has a nice family, I hear. They're moving to the Bay area.
