http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._USB_2.0_External_Hard-_-22-152-179-_-Product 1.5 TB for $120 Not sure how good it is, but it was posted on slickdeals the other day.
How about this: 500GB Samsung HHD $54.99 +Free Shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181 SATA Enclosure $14.99 + $5.99 shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159075 $75.97 for a 500GB external That 1.5GB for $120 isn't a bad deal either.
Amazing that we're talking Terrabytes now, isn't it? I love my XHD, I keep all my personal stuff (including porn) on it. Was easy to keep the wife from happening upon it there, she never even looked at the damn thing.
This topic came up not too long ago...you do realize that an external hard drive is really an internal one with a plastic case on it, right? That plastic casing usually drives the price up $40 or better, so unless you just have to have an external it's not worth buying. Grab an internal one from Newegg while it's on sale (they have different sales everyday), then you can either buy a cheap external enclosure or hook it up inside the case where it can't fall and break.
I like the external because I have three computers on my desk, I can hook it up to any of them and access the info on the fly.
IMO, buying a pre-packaged external drive isn't worth it. They're overpriced and there's no warranty-friendly way to remove the drive should you ever want to put it in another enclosure or a computer. The best thing to do is buy a stand-alone enclosure and then find a hard drive in the capacity you want. You'll wind up saving a few bucks, and it takes only 2 minutes to assemble the thing. Better yet, buy a network-attached storage box, slap 3 or 4 hard drives in there, hook it up to your home router, and suddenly you can access your "family videos" and "vacation pictures" from every computer in the house, and even perhaps while you're away from home.
