http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5092774 "Eye black with messages and wedge blocks will be banned from college football this fall, and taunting in the field of play will start costing teams points in 2011. The eye black trend grew in popularity because of Heisman Trophy winners Reggie Bush and Tim Tebow. Bush wrote "619" on his eye-black patches, in reference to the area code for his hometown near San Diego, and Tebow cited Bible passages, such as "John 3:16." One year after the NFL banned wedge blocking on kickoffs because of safety concerns, the NCAA followed the lead. The new rule says that when the team receiving a kickoff has more than two players standing within 2 yards of one another, shoulder to shoulder, it will be assessed a 15-yard penalty -- even if there is no contact between the teams. Beginning in 2011, live-ball penalties will be assessed from the spot of the foul and eliminate the score. Examples include players finishing touchdown runs by high-stepping into the end zone or pointing the ball toward an opponent. Celebration penalties following a score will continue to be assessed on conversion attempts or the ensuing kickoff." I don't care so much about the first two, but that 3rd rule could end up costing some games.JMO
They should change the one foot inbounds to two feet IMO. Anything to help these guys transition to the next level is good IMO.
Disagree. These guys arent pro's though they may aspire to be at that level. They are student athletes and the distinct is huge because only 250-300 of those guys each year get to go pro out of about 10,000 or so division 1A/1AA players. The rule changes shouldnt be there to encourage players to go to the next level, the ones that want to do that will know that 2 feet down is standard protocol for the NFL and do it on their own. I dont particularly love the rule changes but they do necessitate sportsmanship, a concept long lost on much of this generation of college football players. I know it could affect our hurricanes more then anyone but thats just something we have to deal with
I do not like these rule changes at all. It forces more judgements and interpretations on officials, who in many cases are already incompetent. This will make the situation worse
