Can Odrick Play NT or do we have plans to move Randy Starks into NT? i know that Randy Has good size to play NT but he was a beast at DE and this pick doesnt make all that much sence to me because he is probably to tall to play NT and i am not sure Randy Starks can play NT either. Thought?

From what I've gathered he can play NT a lot but not full time. Will most likely play both DE and NT, which is great.

he's built identically to Jay Ratliff for the cowboys. He's got a great frame and can handle anywhere on the dline. He'll be a pass rusher from the middle. Him and Soliai can hold down NT together now.

no, starks has proven hes a stellar DE for us and that's where he's staying. Plus, he kind of sucked for Tennessee. He really turned his career around last year.

this regime values versatility and this guy has it. Project implies he couldn't play right now, and he can.

I also think Odrick+Solia will be a nice rotation. Now onto the next one. :ffic: heres to a hopefully an equally exciting round two and three with a FS/ OLB in the second and Gerhart in the 3rd? :)

I believe you sir are correct. I do think he was DT coming out of college though if I'm not mistaken?

I was expecting more from this pick. I'll reserve judgment until we see the rest of the draft.

Honestly, I think Odrick was viewed more as a luxury pick because we now have an early second rounder. In other words, we can still pick the three need positions (OLB, FS, NT) in the next three rounds - filling the same holes we set out to fill from the onset. Now, in addition, we have a player that was highly coveted by the FO as well. Our draft can still look like this:

    1) DE, Odrick
    2) OLB, Kindle
    3) FS, Morgan Burnett
    4) NT Jeff Owens

Odrick seems to be a lot like Starks. He can play the NT spot, but likely was drafted to play the DE spot opposite Langford. He can slide into the middle with Starks on passing downs. The real value of Odrick will be a pass rushing OLB addition. If we get that guy in the draft, then Odrick becomes much more of a value to us.

The question is what about Merling ?? Move to OLB ?? I don't know, last year they had him put on weight and play DE, but he didn't exactly stun anyone...

There's definitely a chance he may given what's still on the board. Teams may well be falling over themselves to get Clausen, McCoy, Tate, etc. There's a lot of talent left and various teams have different needs. In fact the CBS updated mock has Kindle going to us at 40.

    33. St. Louis Rams -- Brian Price, DT, UCLA: They need help in the middle of their defense. He can provide it.

    34. Minnesota Vikings (from Lions) -- Chris Cook, CB, Virginia: They might have taken him in the first round, but traded that pick to the Lions. They get him anyway.

    35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Everson Griffen, DE, USC: They got the tackle in the first round. Now they come back and take the end.

    36. Kansas City Chiefs -- Sean Lee, LB, Penn State: They continue to fix the defense after taking Eric Berry in the first round.

    37. Philadelphia Eagles (from Redskins) -- Rodger Saffold, T, Indiana: When in doubt, put a big guy to the Eagles. Some saw Saffold as a first-round pick.

    38. Cleveland Browns -- Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame: Can you believe he's still there? They can't either.

    39. Oakland Raiders -- Linval Joseph, DT, East Carolina: He is a plugger in the middle whose stock has risen in recent months.

    40. Miami Dolphins (from Seahawks through Chargers) -- Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas: They need help rushing the passer. Kindle has good speed off the edge.

I hope you are right, but I can see any of those teams possibly taking Kindle because he is one of the best "value" players left on the board. I just don't see him still being there at #40, but I hope you are right.
That would be like getting three 1st round players this year, Brandon Marshall, Odrick and Kindle.

    Stright from the Horses mouth:

    Q. Can you play at the nose, do you think, like Jay Ratliff in Dallas?

JARED ODRICK: Yeah, I definitely think I can do that. I played the one technique in college and I'm not sure if you follow our d-line at all, but we played -- we would flip and we would slide and I played a lot of three-technique, but I also made a lot of plays from the one. And just as well as I think I can transfer over to a five-technique, just easily, it's football at the end of the day, it's football.

IMO Odrick is being brought in as a NT first and as a DE second. I stated back in February that Odrick was the perfect fit for the NT they wanted. They didn't want a two down run stopper. They had that in Soliai and Fergy. They wanted an interior pass rusher for passing downs. Obviously, they love Odrick's versatility but they wanted an inside push more than anything. I envision Langford, Odrick and Starks as our pass rush line.

There's a chance, but not a good one. Someone will trade up and get him. Wish it would be us, but I doubt it.
