For all anyone here knows, Odrick could be the starting NT on opening day. Langford started full time his rookie season. No reason Odrick couldn't, except Soliai outplaying him.

The only thing bad about this pick is that it more or less says that we missed on Merling......

This guy is a disruptive force and should work out quite well in Mike Nolan's more aggressive and attacking style of defense. Odrick is a guy that will wow you more with what you see him doing on the field than what you will see in the stat lines....

He's a good kid with a motor that doesn't stop running.......and will be out there in TC practicing like it was the last game of his life, everyday.

Who knows, if Merling doesn't get traded tomorrow then maybe this pick will light a fire under his ***.......because this kid will be working hard to put Merling's *** on the bench.

To say that would presume we'll use them in the same roles. IMO it is too early to say. Odrick could just as likely play mostly NT.

That's true...... but personally I don't think so, I think he'll play inside at times but I don't see them getting the best value out of him at NT.

If we grab a NT tomorrow, that should answer that question...

Liked the pick last night, but the more I think about the more I love it!

This guy will be a stallworth on the Miami defensive line for years to come!

I don't know how Odrick will fit on our team, but the pick was about right for the area in which he was picked. What I dislike about this pick was that we traded down too far and didn't get enough for it. We should have stayed at 12 and drafted BPA.

I'm so unimpressed with the pick. Odrick is nowhere near a true NT. I'd love to believe he is a dominant player, but the truth is he is a 4-3 defensive end who is going to take time to adjust and learn a 3-4 let alone become a dominant unmovable space-eater.

Summary: Odrick is an excellent player and very good value at a non-need position. Thats the reason people are upset.

That is exactly who he reminded me of in the videos. He plays just like Seymour...but can do it from the end or in the middle. He gets to the QB. It might not be for a sack...but he gets pressure on the QB and he gets the hit in there. I love it!

As a Dawg...Jones is all hitter, no fundamentals. He is not great in coverage, and he goes for the big hit over making the tackle. Believe me...most Georgia fans were happy to see him leave.

I don't. I think they panicked when McClain went to the Raiders, took the first trade that presented itself then panicked AGAIN when Dan Williams was taken the pick before us and just took the next conceivable NT they had on the board after him.

I seriously doubt Parcells and Ireland panicked. Dan Williams was projected a lot higher than 26. For them to trade down to 28 tells me they weren't worried wheter he was there or not. They took the BPA.

any pick in the trenches is NOT a wasted pick. period.

I've watched dolphin teams in the past get owned at the LOS on both sides and there is nothing more sickening then watching teams own your D-Line or O-line all game.

Great pick, and now we have #40 as well plus a decent LB in Dobbins.

Also we pissed off the jets as they were set to take Odrick

What are the chances Odrick is JT's replacement? It sounds like he has the athleticism to be a OLB. Not suggesting, just asking.

Hmmmm, considering where we picked, and that only other person I would have picked over Jared is Hughes or E. Thomas.... the pick was actually pretty good.

I'm no guru by any means, but it would appear that based on his measurables (300+ pounds) he's too big to play in any stand-up capacity without sheding some serious weight.

I think it's more likely Odrick is Ferguson's replacement. Either way Odrick has the versatility to play a few different spots, and that's one of the reasons it was a good pick.

I don't understand all the hate for the trade. WE basically got a young ilb who has shown he can start games and recouped a 2nd round pick that is pretty high.

I wasn't thrilled at first when we passed on Hughes, but adding this guy to the line gives us some serious depth. I also love the fact he's a 3 down player. At times last year we were helpless against the run, and I think this guy will make our pass rush better as well. Hard not to like this pick when you really think about it.

No panic involved. This particular draft has consistently been refered to as a big man's draft. It is an extremely rare draft. The front office WANTS the second round pick and the supposed plentiful remains are the big reason for it.

I don't claim to know the talent in the draft. I've just been listening to radio, tv, and our own front office. If the plan is that the draft is plentiful, I buy the notion of getting more picks. Our trade was in line with the value chart.

I do not think this draft was top heavy. That statement is based upon what those in the know have been saying. Listening to multiple telecasts and a replay on Sirius suggests that more than half of the top ten attempted to get out of the top ten. It cost too much to get into the top ten. It is the exact reason why you did not see any movement until the top ten was gone. Nobody was giving up the picks it would take to get there.

Value was there in Dan Williams. It was just dumb luck that Dan Williams dropped to the Cardinals. As a matter of fact he was interviewed on Sirius right after the selection. The most interesting question came from Adam Schein. "What were the first words the Cardinals had for you?"

Dan Williams "We are sorry that we have not contacted you. We just think you are a special player and we have admired your play on film. We are sorry that you dropped to our pick but none-the-less we were happy to see you there."

    DUMB LUCK!

The worst thing about the interview was listening to the disappointment in Dan Williams voice. You could tell that he never expected to wait that long.

..........and Gil Brandt said when the pick was made - "Bill Parcells is livid right now."

The front office knew they lost out on Dan Williams when they took the trade. They just had no idea that he would make it so close to their pick. A crap load of freakish things happened last night. This was just one of them.

I hate to sound like a traitor but I liked the JETS pick better. I would have taken ball hawk Kyle Wilson any day of the week over this guy, especially with our DB woes last year.

I am very puzzled and confused by this 'non - necessity' pick.

the fact that the patriots drafted a different CB than Wilson leads me to believe hes not nearly as good as his hypes been. The patriots know their ****, and they need a cover CB more than the jets.

Course it means im not too thrilled about their McCourtey pick...

Give those two rookies back there a chance will ya. Who's to say Wilson is even better than either of them? He did play at Boise State last year. Not saying Wilson won't be good, but he wasn't ball-hawking in the SEC or Big 12 last season.

After further review I take it back. I will leave it to Ireland to pick the right guys. But Odrick a nose tackle? I cant see what everyone else is seeing that say he can play Nose. Move someone else in there. I see him as Wake was this year. Come in on passing downs for nose and slowly work in to a starting lineman role.

The guy is raw talent and I do have a soft spot in my heart for D and O line.

I think this maybe what they had in mind all along. I think they got the guy they wanted and felt secure that he'd be there at 28. Now it's time to beef up on our OLB's and DB's.
