    Jerry

No he can't, but he did play QB at a 7 on 7 camp for his high school when he was a 6'5 310lb NT. The guy has very agile feet and can pull from the guard position like crazy. You see how Dexter McCluster from Ole Miss shot up draft boards? Well, Jerry moving inside to guard is a major reason for this. After he moved to RG from RT he would devastate DT's and DE's in the SEC opening huge whole's for McCluster to dart through. You may have had more pressing needs, but Jerry will contribute early. His brother went to Falcon's in the 1st round last year. Their cousin Jamarca Sanford went to Minnesota in the 7th round last year, and another of their cousin's is Deshea Townsend 12 yr CB for the Steelers. A lot of football blood in that family.

Maybe they really like Culver and/or Clemons? I doubt it because we DID go after two top free agents (Rolle, Clark).

Hope we draft a safety in the 4th or 5th and sign Sharper or Atogwe.

I don't know... coming into the draft, I'd say we didn't have a single player on the roster or out there on free agency capable of playing SOLB. We have two safeties, one is decent and the other is a prospect. Sharper and Atogwe are also available.

I think our biggest need was filled with Misi.

Considering all our Gs cant stay healthy worth a **** I say that we did fill a need.

Granted I wanted a FS here but I think thats what we're going to do with the 4th rounder, of course if Aaron Hernandez is still there I wouldnt be upset.

Unfortunate what happened to Peria last year. Hope he recovers nicely.

As for John, I am not surprised by the pick given Sparano's affinity for O-lineman.

I would not say he is an upgrade in potential talent inasmuch as he is an upgrade in competition. Should be fun to watch, too. If anything, Miami should have a solid rotation of guys for the long-haul of the season. Should keep the big bodies fresh for a potential playoff run. Seems like competition (plug and play guys) is an on-going theme for this team.

** Yeah, from O.S. as well. Also met someone on here from Biloxi. Aren't many Dolphin fans here on the coast. Can't say that I blame them. Seems that 90% of Harrison County has ties to New Orleans. I live in Gulfport now. **

I have absolutley no issue with them addressing either line. Even if us fans think our lines are strong. Saw what happened last year when expensive injury riddled o lineman start dropping like flies.

If this Jerry is big strong and fast, which it looks like he is, he should fit in well and contribute very well to our dolphins.

Looks like, if they take care of business, Jerry will be replacing Smiley at LG and Incognito will be replacing Thomas at RG.

Gotta say I wanted a FS at 73, but it seems we wanted Burnett, and once he was gone we decided not to reach and went BPA at a position of relative need. Can't fault that.

That would make rational sense as opposed to believing our F.O. is making picks based off of eeny meeny miny moe.

And of course no one said that. They are, however, making picks based on something other than our team needs.

I don't understand why you're so hung up on needs. As I said yesterday this F.O. drafted on needs for years and that is why we sucked.

Also our needs were DT/DE, OLB, S and maybe WR.

We just picked up two linebackers, we got a DT/DE in odrick and it looks like Starks is being moved to DT as well. Wr really isn't a need anymore with Marshall and the only need that is left is S. We have two safeties on the roster that were pretty good in their limited time and Darren Sharper is still on the market. If the team hasn't taken a safety there is probably a method to the madness.

No, we sucked because they drafted crappy players. It's possible to draft talented players at a position of need.

Yes that's what we did. We have lots of needs. Front 7 on defense and oline are huge needs.

We added talent to very important positions on a football team. And took players that will fit what the coaches look for in attributes.

Smiley and Grove both have been injured for 3 straight years, how is addressing a BPA on the oline in the third a bad decision? Remeber the nighmare the carolina game is. Oh wait we have Ritchie all is solved. No we got good kids who are talented, started almost every game in the collegiate careers, they are big strong and fast. They will fit in great here.

Look at how the colts draft. They consistently take BPA and get the player who's attributes fit their team's style of play and work ethic. It's not flashy but it works.

Why did the colts take gonzalez a few years back when they had two of the top 10 best wideouts in the game? Certainly wasn't a position of need. Probably last position of need behind QB on their team. Sure looked good when Harrison declined and left. Then they took Garcon and Collie. This year they take a DE. What's wrong with Mathis and Freeney? Not a need position again. I have a strong feeling he'll do very good for them. He fits the type of player they want, not what ESPN ranks.

Ireland, BP and Sparano have that same philosophy. They took the players they feel will have a chance to fit in and succeed in how we play football. And many feel Safety is our position of need, but ever think by upgrading our front 7 this offseason with authority will help whoever is playing safety? Maybe they identified our Safeties struggled last year because of the poor play of the linebackers, or the 3 man front wasn't getting enough consistent pressure. Well we did upgrade our LB's and DE's this offseason. our secondary should be given more opportunities to make plays now. Drafting the way we did helps the personnel we have get better.

I for one love our draft strategy. Take the player with the characteristics that will fit in with your team and personnel. Just taking a talented player who won't fit in with how you run your team can be a big mistake like some teams do every year and the kid is super talented and highly ranked, but if you put him in a system that doesn't fit how he plays it could be a bust right away. We got good kids, work hard mentality, big, strong, fast. What's not to like?

Front 7 on defense yes, but our biggest needs on D were NT and FS. Odrick is not a pure NT. O line was a need, but not more pressing than either of those needs.

You mean NT because you need a three down player who can occupy two gaps to stop the run?

Oh right then we should have taken the top rated NT and just figured he could do that well at the NFL.

Well perhaps a reason we didn't do that was because there was no NT in this draft who can do that well besides Suh. But what we can do is take a DE / LB hybrid instead.

And that can help because the point of NT is to stop the run, and occupy space and move laterally to stop the run.

Odrick will certainly fill that need. He will help us stop the run, inside or out. He's a penetrator and a great tackler.

So although we didn't get a true NT, we got a player who can play beside SOlia and Ferg when he returns to assist them in stopping the run. Which is the point of a franchise NT, who wasn't feasably available to us at 12. We solved that at 28 and got another LB in the second. Great strategy IMO.

And you saying our biggest need is NT and S, is an opinion. But mine or your opinion doesn't matter, the FO's opinion is what matters. Perhaps the big plays the Safeties seemed to give up wasn't all their fault. Perhaps we identified our LB's coverage skills was what led to all the middle seam TE routes that burned us. get some LB who can press TE's at the line and cover in the mid range and leave the safeties to only have to worry about the deep middle seams. But if in Baltimore or Pitts if opposing TE got free release and open holes in the mid range and you asked your safeties to cover short, medium and long passes up the middle on everyplay because the LB's weren't doing their jobs at the line or in the medium zones, no safety has a chance to succeed.

If our FO believed that, I think most people both in the NFL and in sports analysis would disagree.

I was the same as many people headed into the draft, NT and S were my concerns.

Seeing how things have played out, I really like this pick and how the dolphins want to use him.

Jake Long and John Jerry will be a huuuuge bulldozing left side.
