I hope those coverage skills translate to the next level. Between his coverage skills, ability to actually get to the runner near / behind the line and fundamental tackling I already like the guy.

Crowder could hear footsteps if he develops fast.

What exactly is it that's poisoned the discourse on these kind of situations so badly that people think that you can select a certain position at any given pick and have them be a good player?

    Madden? Mock Draft hype?

doesnt matter who says he was a reach. we wanted a cover lb and got him. we got killed last year in lb coverage. this kid can still develop. he is weak at poa but we want him for coverage right now

Not at all... correct me if i'm wrong, you have hated every pick for 2-3 years now. j/k. you have disliked every pick this year.

I'll take the wait and see approach before I pass judgment on these players.

I think B.P and Ireland know more about the Draft Than I do. or Kiper,Mayock or CBS sportsline does...

Most likely it's the prevalence of the straw man argument, whereby you arbitrarily assign a ridiculous position to those with whom you disagree and then ask them to defend the position you invented.

Are you implying that certain positions can't produce good players at any pick throughout the draft?

Maybe. But people said the same thing about other FOs in our past and unfortunately they were wrong.
Now, I think the Parcells/Ireland/Sparano FO is better at this than Cameron, Saban or Wannspeil, but they've already made a few dumb mistakes in their time here, and the good choices they've made don't make those dumb mistakes nonexistent.
IMHO, this draft has been one of missed opportunities. We have some guys that could be good, solid, contributing roleplayers and that's fine. We COULD have had some guys that have the potential and talent to be stars in the league.

Rick, We may HAVE the guys that end up being stars in the league. We've not seen any of them play a down as a pro.

If those "missed opportunities" flop as pros are you going to reverse that statement?

Of course. And if the guys we drafted become stars, I will also gladly admit I am wrong. But I don't live my life assuming I am wrong about everything...wouldn't make much sense.

How is what I'm suggesting in any way unfair or a mischaracterization of what is being said in this thread.

Yes, in any given draft it's quite possible the entire draft will not produce a good player at a specific position, and it's highly likely at any given pick especially when you go down the draft that's the case.

I laugh at all these wannabe experts on the forums whining about how this draft is a failure and downing every pick... There is a reason why your at home eating cheetos watching this draft while Ireland, Parcels, and company make millions to select these kids. Keep your day job, watch the draft and look on the bright side for once. Nothing is promised in the NFL draft no matter where or what you pick.

A.J. Edds is a definate improvement at cover LB than what we currently got so that makes me happy. Maybe now Dallas Clark wont single handedly kick our butts!

By saying that ANYONE is suggesting you can draft a player at a certain position in a certain round and have them be a success.

What was the reason that Dave Wannstedt, Rick Speilman, Cam Cameron et al were drafting for us? How about the guys who've made the picks for the Raiders the last couple decades? How about Matt Millen?
    Care to rethink your statement?

yea great logic. because their being paid to draft we shouldn't comment or share our thoughts. how about this logic, this is a football forum to share our thoughts, not a forum for worshiping the FO...

don't like that aspect, don't read it

I would have to do some research for the picks in the later rounds, as we have moved around quite a bit. But for the number 12 pick, Jeez! The possibilities are many: Brandon Graham, Earl Thomas, Derrick Morgan. Hell whichever of those three the FO liked better would have been a great pick.

I felt we should of drafted a Wr early on and this is why I know we are set at Wr , I read an article a few weeks back that he is 1 strike from a one year suspension anyone know about this ?

Just thinking of the ricky days the guy top runner but when he was suspended it hurt us badly.

    I also wanted Thomas.

we did need our 2nd back. if you look at it like we got Marshall and koa Misi in the 2nd. that's solid if you ask me.

Although I cant stand Wanny not all his picks were bad and like I said nnothing is promised in the Draft, Chris Chamber was a pretty good pick, so was Randy McMichael, and a Safety named Yeremiah Bell. They also picked up undrafted DE Adewale Ogunleye who also wasnt so bad. The Raiders make bad decisions because the ******ed owner Al davis doesnt let the people he hires do their job. And Cam oh Cam... even though I would say he blew it with the 1st rounder I'm kinda glad he did cause we would of been stuck with Brady Quinn another failure at QB, Plus he did get some decents out of the draft, Sam Satele, Paul Soliai, and our current punter Brandon Fields

ESPN's coverage and analysis this year has been horrible.. They get paid to make guesses and non of them are on a coaching staff. I think our front office knows better what we need than some desk jocks.

Sure that would be great and I wouldnt mind talking FOOTBALL, but "I dont like this pick" and "this draft is a failure" puts little reason (football reason) as to why so why even say it. If your not knowledgable enough to backup your statement then why say it.

So why? Why is A.J. Edds a bad pick?

Ya I know I'm a bit late but Ya see I got this neighbor. He loved to play his stereo (he's a DJ) all night and last night I couldn't take it and had to call the police. It was 4 am and all I can hear is his base. I have pulled him aside several times and tried to be neighborly with him to no avail. So I sorta woke up just before the AJ Edd pick

This... Seriously. It's like everyone gets a 5 second sound bite in, and then it's Steve Young taking over the mic until the next pick is called out. The guy just loves to hear himself talk or something. You can see everyone elses faces thinking "Just shut the hell up Steve!"
