This guy is a playmaker as evidence by his stats. Keep in mind his stats are impressive also because he only played 24 games as DE (also played DT and Nose). Forced fumbles, pass deflections, tackles for loss, this guy is a flat out playmaker. What's funny too, is he actually backpedals smoother than Taylor Mays lmao!

How can you not like this pick? This is exactly who I wanted at #40 after we didn't take Hughes. IMO, the best pass rusher available at the time.

This is an outstanding pick. This has been an outstanding draft, so far.

I think John Jerry is going to be a good contributor...love the other two picks, love Dansby, love Marshall....We are going to be a very good football team....for a long time.

High football IQ, fast, athletic, he can cover well and rush the passer.
He isnt a good run stopper but we have Dansby and Crowder for that.

    I love this pick

I have seen a little of his pay but not much. But this pick itself speaks to the genius of Jeff Ireland at the draft. His scouts always seems to find high quality players that no one else thinks of drafting.

This way he doesn't have to worry about fighting with the other teams over the highly publicized players and losing them to another team won't screw up his draft board. Man these guys in the FO are good~! In tomorrows draft I expect a DE/OLB candidate that can float between positions like JT could.

I have got news for the JETS, while they are out gathering football fossils we are quietly building a powerhouse for the next five years.

    My take so far..

Like the Odrick pick, not thrilled about the other two.... not terribly upset, just not thrilled

When we were picking in the second round, were teams in our division thinking:

    A. "I hope they don't take Koa Misi"

    B. "Holy **** what if they take Golden Tate?"

The Guard in the 3rd looks solid but was he even close to BPA at a position of need?

The effect of the uncapped year isn't over yet.... it's rumored that teams will likely use the opportunity to get out of quite a few contracts. Just like the draft, we could see an increase in the extra talent available in FA by June cuts. I think we'll have a chance to fill a couple more holes by TC.

    From here on out.....

I'd package Smiley, Merling and Pat White for virtually anything.....even a 5th

To get another pick in the 4th, I'd throw in something else....just go ahead and clear the roster spots of 3 guys that are basically headed for the waiver wire anyway and try and fill those spots with players with more upside.

I'd like to have a pick in the 4th to gamble with....there's at least a couple of guys with enough talent to take a chance on. Like Mike Williams WR Syracuse......he's an idiot thus far in his life, but his upside is huge. We've drafted safe/solid players thus far, lets roll the dice and go after a kid that needs to grow up, not grow talent..

Pretty amazing to think that Koa Misi had three sacks vs Alabama in the Sugar Bowl in 08. They dont have chumps on that line either. Kind of shows you what kind of player he is. Hes also a phenomenal athlete - had a 38 inch vertical at the combine which shows that hes explosive.

Anyone have highlights of the 08 Sugar Bowl? Curious to see who Misi matched up against on the Bama line. Most of those guys are/will be NFL players.

Merling isn't going anywhere. He really has not been as bad as people make him out to be. To package him in a trade for a 5th round pick would be a terrible move.

Msi and Edds are solid picks, but neither have the true size, 260+ we are looking for in a SOLB (and Edds needs to get stronger) ... It will be interesting to see how this plays out ...

I did really want to see Lane ... but i won't complain with these 2 picks, as just walking on -they are probably better depth than we currenty have at LB ....

Ireland said in his PC that Misi has played at 275 before when he was on the line, and one of the things they liked about him was his ability to put on and keep weight or lose it with relative ease. He'll most likely be playing at 255-260 for us.

Having said that, our latest pick is a 6'3 260+ OLB in McCoy

Was just going to post this.

Ireland said he was indeed 275 when they had him playing defensive tackle as a sophomore.

Ireland said he was 244 at the Senior Bowl and then 251 at the Combine. He can gain the weight. Ireland said he'll play at wherever Evan Marcus determines he should be. Probably 255 pound range.

One thing that deserves mention is that he once returned an interception for a TD against TCU. It wasn't a 5 or 10 yard return, Koa took the ball back 45 yards for a TD, untouched. He's fast, really really fast.
