Ok. So we completely overhauled the LB corp, add tons of defensive talent via the draft and Dansby, added a badass playmaker in Marshall, and have made a switch to the Mike Nolan defense. Factoring in a less punishing schedule, how many wins do you EXPECT?

Meaning, what is a reasonable expectation for this year?

    I'll post my opinion below.

I should note that this is year #3 of this regime, and I just kinda want to know the expectations heading into the season. Wondering if the fans should be expecting deep playoffs from this point forward.

I expect 11 wins. We have an easier schedule than last year, thats good for one more win. Which gives us 8. Then factor in Marshall, and the ability to contend in shootouts...10 wins. Then factor in Henne improving his game to Aaron Rodgers status. 11 wins. We may win the division, but I can see us as a wildcard at 11-5 with either the pats or jets ahead of us at 12-4.

10 wins is my number too. AFC East will be brutal.

We could be helped out if Favre doesn't come back to the Vikings and Roethlisberger stays suspended.

If we sign Atogwe, Darren Sharper, or Ed Reed as our free safety, then I predict that we win the Super Bowl.

8-9 wins is most reasonable as a baseline. The offense will be generally better than it was last season, though injuries and physical form will be a concern. Real improvement hinges on the defense, where we'll have about six new starters at RDE, NT, SOLB, SILB, WOLB, and FS. As many as four of these starters could be rookies. That's an incredible amount of turnover, and it's also quite a lot to ask of a rookie class.

I would say, at a minimum, expect to go 9-7 and contend for a wild card through December. If we stay injury-free and the rookie wall doesn't hit us too hard, 10 wins and a playoff appearance is very realistic.

We're not going to the Super Bowl. Not yet. We need one more offseason to seriously expect to make a Super Bowl run.

We'll be a playoff contender for sure, possibly be contending for the division as well. BUT the AFC East is ridiculously loaded with talent right now (minus the Bills lol), so its gonna be a tough road no matter what.

It's just way to early to tell, we have the rookie minicamp, the pajama party, then Training Camp then the preseason and we have no idea who is going to do what, if there will be any injuries for us, or for our opponents.

Reasonable is playoffs in my opinion. I wouldn't count us out for the SB but not getting there won't be a disappointment, missing the playoffs would be. Maybe a playoff appearance and one win? Either way I'm hopeful for a great season and it's going be a long time until September.

I agree with everything you said. There will be a lot of turnover and a lot of unknowns still left to sort out. I think with the addition of Nolan, some good FAs, and a good draft that we'll be better than last year but the Pats and Jets got better too and are two teams I still see above us. However with the improvement and slightly easier schedule this year and if the best possible conditions happen, as you mentioned, then 9 or 10 wins is possible.

I fully expect a year much like this past one maybe a little better or maybe a little worse but I agree we are about another year away. The team has improved each year so far which is good to see. So with talent improving hopefully some of the coaching kinks start to work out as well and this team can start to ascend.

I would say that with the departure of JT, Joey, and Akin, and the suspension to Ferg for the first 8 games, our sarting lineup should be in the top 3 as youngest in the league...Lets keep that in mind..As long as I see ascenson in their overall identity, and athleticism as a team, I'll take 9 and 7, 10 and 6, and see what happens.

please keep in mind i was asking for an expectation, not a prediction or a ceiling. what should we expect? or what would you consider the minimum this team needs to accomplish to buy your confidence for another season.

Playoffs, and a Playoff win. Come on, it's into year 3. They let JT go because they think they have the defense figured out, and if the defense improves, this team could be an 11-12 win team.

While I share you optimism we have way to many young / rookie players to achieve that.. In my humble opinion this team is a good 2 years from being a legit Superbowl contender.

I expect us to make it into the playoffs, anything less will be disappointing after all these moves.

From there though, it's up to them. If we make a strong playoff berth, and maybe move a game into the playoffs after that, there's no reason we can't be a contender next year.

And honestly, moving through the playoffs to an AFC Championship? It happened to the Jets and they were handed a playoff spot. It's not too crazy to think of if we get there.

    Fixed!

I think we will have a great chance at an AFC East title. The defense this year, assuming it lives up to the hype, can stop any offense in the East including the Jests. Hell the Jets are potentially a RB injury away from having no running game. If Ronnie Brown can stay healthy this year, if the Oline stays healthy, someone PLEASE explain to me how you stop Ronnie, Ricky, Polite withOUT having 9 in the box. Good thing we got Marshall. I honestly can't remember the last time I felt this optimistic going into a season. Hopefully I'm still this optimistic after training camp wraps up.

Its AFC Ch Game or Bust. Alot of things can happen when you get in that game...so...I won't freak out if we get there and don't go to the SB. But a ten win season? Thats worse than 08. Not acceptable. 11 wins? Thats the same as 08. I expect this team to win every game...but I will settle for 12 wins. I will give them one mulligan every four games.

We have a young QB (who can make every throw) with some experience. We have a OL that, IMO, is outstanding (now with John Jerry, who might be my favorite pick in this draft....I love maulers). Our RBs are old and injury prone, but we have some talent there. I think we'll continue to upgrade at RB. We drafted some "projects" at TE last year and we brought some guys in during the season. I don't love Fasano. IMO, hes barely servicable. Nothing special about him. If we have a glaring weakness on the team, thats it. However, I don't know anything about Nalbone or any of these other guys who may be players. Right now, I'd call TE our only spot on offense that isn't set. Our WR corps, with Marshall, is as good now as any in the league. Hartline and Bess are good and young...Camarillo is very steady, and we have an X factor in Patrick Turner. If he can get on the field, we will have alot of options.

Defensively, we aren't as set as we are on offense, but I like where we are. The two DTs we picked in 08 need to show up bigger this year...Langford and Merling. I think with their experience and with the pressure they are going to get from Odrick, we'll see an improvement. I am not as down on Soliai as some are. I think he's good, and might be better this year. Since JF can't play for 8 games, I look at him as a guy who can fill in if someone gets hurt.

Dansby will make some plays at LB. Hes outstanding. Crowder, Dobbins, Edds...I think it will be a strong group. The competition for OLB is going to be fierce, and I think Misi is going to be a good player. I watched him in the Bama game two years ago, and he was as good as any player on the field that night. And many in that game are in the NFL now, one is starting in our secondary. There is ALOT to like about Koa Misi. I don't know how many sacks he'll have, but he will get pressure on the QB more times than not.

Depending on how things work out, Clemons and Jones just might be longterm fixtures answer S. When I look at our DBs, I see us having a dominant group back there in a season or two. This year, I think we can get by with the two CBs, Bell, Culver, and Clemons, with Jones coming along slowly.

We have very good kickers. I wouldn't trade our two kickers for any teams. We do need a kick returner, but those can be found off the street and in preseason.

I think AFC East Champions is reasonable. We were competitive last year and there is only reason to expect we'll be better this year just by using the addition by subtraction method alone.

    10 or 11 wins is a reasonable expectation. I voted for 11 b/c I'm a homer.

The Jets are the most logical choice for division champs though obviously Miami and NE are good enough to win it as well.

I am a bit surprised by the low expectations on this board.

If you look at our season, the majority of the season played with a first year starting QB, we took the two teams who went to the SB down to the wire. There is no question in my mind, if had Brandon Marshall instead of Teddy Ginn, we win both of those games. The Jets, who were in the AFCCG, we beat twice. Once, without getting 100 yards in offense.

We've gotten better on both sides of the ball, we've gotten better at QB (more experience), and I think (hope) Sparano has learned from some of the game day decisions he made. Hring Mike Nolan is going to be GREAT for this defense.

IMO, a ten win season is a major disappointment, barring injuries or other catastrophies (A Katrina like storm in S. Fla that wrecks our stadium). We have an outstanding football team, we can beat any team in the league.

I expect at least 10 wins and a playoff birth. The Bills are in turmoil, The Pat's are aging with an overrated QB, and the Jets will rot from within with all of those high profile aging egos.

Being that this is year three I reasonably expect a playoff run. They've had three offseasons to build the team in their own image. At the very least they should get in as a wild card.

Don't forget... After all the injuries last year to starters, the toughest schedule in the league, the rookie secondary and a basically rookie QB, plus no weapon at the WR position-we were in the playoff hunt right to the very end. And we never really got blown out.

Henne, Smith, Davis all now have experience. Pennington will be out there on the sidelines. Ronnie, Cobbs, Ricky and Polite will all be back. They now have one of the best WRs in the game out there, which means we have a threat at WR, which means no stacking the box which should open the run game even more, and help the other WRs get open and not have to face the tougher CBs. The defense should be improved and is younger. We're in a tough division, but 3 teams could make it from the division, so thats not an excuse really. Plus, we're 8-4 against the division, this team is tough.

A playoff win or 2 is a good expectation. Super Bowl...it's possible, more possible then the last few years for sure, but I wont get my hopes up. I wouldn't be shocked though, like if we had made it in 2008 I would have literally been in shock I think, but now I could see it. Not counting on it though, but I hope so! I hope we take the east and win a playoff game.

The only part of this team that might regress is special teams, but who knows.
