Joe Six-pack will have to pay a lot more to get his buzz on if Assemblyman Jim Beall has his way. The San Jose Democrat on Thursday proposed raising the beer tax by $1.80 per six-pack, or 30 cents per can or bottle. The current tax is 2 cents per can. That's an increase of about 1,500 percent. Beall said the tax would generate $2 billion a year to fund health care services, crime prevention and programs to prevent underage drinking and addiction. http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_8888028?source=rss
San Jose eh? Just a hop skip and ajump away from where I live essentially. I can "visit" Mr. Beall on behalf of beer drinkers everywhere...
You said it bud. See, this crap would never go down in FLA. You guys in Cali let em get away with practically banning cigarettes in certain parts of LA, now they're hitting you with a beer tax. It was inevitable. I can tell you that if they even thought about doing this down here that would be a freakin revolt.
I am ok with banning cancer sticks or at least taxing the hell out of them. That is a habit that actually forces itself upon others who aren't willing participants. Beer, however, is only drunk by...well drunks (me included). The other part of this is that the money will probably be used wrongly. Just like how the Lotto money was supposed to go towards education funding...
Well bro you can always move down here. We'll take anyone, its kinda our motto. Besides, we need some more transplants down here who dont speak in a cheesy New York accent.
Its sickening to think of these politicians and their practices for raising money. Don't have enough money for things, let's just create or raise a tax on something. Its ****ing ridiculous. Its already too ****ing expensive to live in CA, but now they're going to make you pay even more for a ****ing beer! That is highway robbery right there. Sorry for all of the proganity, I think I have been on Finehell too much.
LOL. I'd rather have an accent that sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Still havent figured out which annoys me more, the Boston or NY accent.
Seriously? I knew a girl from Australia, I loved that accent. Its gets a little old after you hear her whining in it, but a nice accent nonetheless.
Never going to happen I dont see the beer drinkers of my fine state voting for this. I wouldnt really have a problem with a slight increase, but 30 cents a can is a bit much.
Now is this British accent on a man or a woman? Because again I must respectfully disagree. Although I guess if you have an NY accent your views on that matter may be somewhat skewed
Sorry I can't agree, drunk drivers have forced them selfs on to many peoples lifes over the years, and in fact took those same lifes. Both are bad, I don't drink but I do smoke so I am as guilty I guess.
See this is a major reason on why it is bad to have Democrats control legislatures. A few years ago they put in a horrible law which prevented Californians win contests sponsored by alcohol companies.
I was born in fort myers....and raised in wellington (west palm beach) iam an absolute floridian.....i moved to carolina 1 month ago Carolinas are still affordable
Whats funny about this is that I stopped by the grocery store on my way to the beach today and some random old dude comes up to me and starts ranting like a lunatic about how the politicians are involved with these secret societies in Switzerland and that is why our beer in Cali is going to have a price increase. I was afraid for my life.
Here in Colorado the legislature is trying to pass a bill so they can open liquor stores on Sunday, which I think would be a great idea. The only alcohol you can buy on Sunday is the watered down beer in the grocery stores and wine. It sucks when you run out of booze/beer during a football game, but at least you can get alcohol at the sports bars on Sunday.
My best friend moved to Colorado for law school and has done nothing but openly complain about your stupid alcohol laws. He will be thrilled to hear this news
The irony of this Roman, is growing up, the liquor stores in New Mexico used to be closed on Sunday...if indeed we forgot to make a "Sunday stash" we would venture the 3 hours north to pick up the 3.2% swill you speak of....I remember drinking and drinking and drinking and never catching a buzz...just barely one step up from Odoles...with more flavors to choose from. Of course there is ZERO 3.2 in New Mexico and liquor stores are now open on Sunday's ....and of course it is all irrelavent to me cause I live in Arizona now..
I took a summer trip to Georgia last year and almost crapped myself when told they dont even sell BEER on Sundays... needless to say there probably arent alot of people having sex on Sundays in GA...
