http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/04/22/news-playstation-3-plugs-into-mlb-tv.aspx 1st) I am so stoked for this....just a huge Computer Monitor in essence for what I use now. 2nd) Blocking out local or Nationalized televised is meaningless as those are on TV (for the most part). 3rd) NFL really needs to get on the bandwagon and allow fans via their Computers to view any and all out of market games (except Natl TV games) as well. Long overdue. MLB.tv rocks...love it.
On my computer monitor, I can watch 4 games at the same time (the old program actually allowed for 6)...but obviously only sound for one. Cant wait to check if its only one game, or multiple games via this PS3 option. This is money for fantasy league tracking, etc.
Tried it out last night...so easy.....its only one game at a time, but you can easily toggle to the full list, see what the details are, and switch between....and the HD is sweet on my TV. Great idea MLB....(and love that PS3 joined up).
The subscription is the same one you would use on your Computer/Laptop, etc (and thats worth it all by itself). Its the normal/standard annual fee to get all the MLB games via a computer. I pay the annual fee $119 that gets me all RADIO and TV feeds. Since I travel, whatever the IP address is, thats the game I get blocked. So while @ home, O's and Nats are blocked, if I travel away from DC I can watch O's and Nats, but would have Marlins blocked when down in Miami, etc. You just use it to login via the PS3. Yes, the streaming and image quality (wireless or wired) is the same as you would see on your laptop...just think of the TV as a LARGER monitor. Again, the only difference is the application on the laptop allows up to 4 games to be viewed (quad box) at the same time - with only one sound based on which one you selected, but you click to switch to the other boxes for that audio, etc. PS3/TV is one sound, one image.
Yeah, and I think Radio feed for BLACKEDOUT games, etc. worth it....and archived games of those Blackedout once finished, etc. P.S. no radio feed via PS3.
The problem with the NFL offering that is their television contracts with the major networks and DirecTV. CBS and FOX and NBC would throw a fit over the loss of eyeballs watching their broadcasts, which means they can't charge as much for advertisements. Local affiliates would complain too, because they'd see less advertising revenue as well. The NFL might be interested in sharing some of the revenue with everyone, but the money earned from subscription fees plus online advertising wouldn't come close to the money lost on the television end. One way to get around it might be to pipe the broadcasts directly to the internet stream, advertisements and all. There are some technical problems with that, and advertisers might complain about having to pay increased rates.
Well, with MLB you are still watching the broadcast of the actual public teams...so dont see why that would change with NFL. Ex. if Yanks, I listen to YES (or can choose the opposing team if I want). Why couldnt Football do the same...CBS feed, FOX feed, NBC, etc, etc....or pick Radio feed, etc. Now, MLB does block the commercial break. Its just weird that MLB is maximizing its access GLOBALLY and NFL isnt.
I was thinking the 360 should do this with MLB and it would be awesome, i hope there is still a chance!
The problem is the current TV contracts. They're not up for renegotiation for a couple of years. Right now the NFL needs to worry about a CBA, not NFL.tv.
The NFL does this already for overseas guys like me , its expensive as hell though at about £150 for the season. Worth it if you are a die hard fan like most are Its the only way I can guarantee seeing every Phins game live and IMO worth it
wait so i can have my dad watch from his computer and me watch from my ps3? if so im excited, because im going to NY for the summer and my dads out here, and i wanted to give him my package cause i only care about the Yankees, and ill get them back in NY, this way i can let my brother use it too in vegas
Hey, family site, lets stick to Baseball.....anyhooo...... you all crack me up, so none of you actually buy stuff like this and immediately sign on from 2 or 3 different laptops or computers to see if all can connect at the same time? I do! I dont know what the max is, dont want to exceed or press my luck, but 3 simultaneous connections works for sure....have for years. P.S. I do the same for my Dad in FL....and while I travel using it, I know my Daughters are using it to still watch while they are @ home.
wait i thought you can only use it on one pc at a time, i thought i read that somewhere, if not then thats amazing!
Every game today on my PS3 either said FOX or MLB.com and I wasn't able to watch any of them. What's up with that?
the rule with MLB.tv is NATL BROADCAST (usually the 4 or 5 Sat afternoon games (1pm to 4pm-ish) are the most impacted) games are blacked out. See posts above to explain.
