He's not our player, so who cares? honestly, this looks like a psych test, similar to how they interviewed Matt Ryan in 2007. They asked him "If you fail, how you would handle yourself? or something of that nature. Let's face it, this team is run by a bunch of unprofessional a-holes, why is this surprising? I don't agree with how they handle players, but that's how Parcells runs teams, for better or worse.
Every coach I ever had tried to get in their players heads. You're gonna get somebody like Peezy that is gonna come right out and do that to you in a game, when your emotions are high. Good thing he didn't go into the military.
I am not going to make a judgment on Ireland's question. Because his job is to find players to put on this team to win a Super Bowl...Period. Nothing else about him (as long as its legal) makes a bit of difference. The bottom line is with Dez Bryant, our team, as well as a whole bunch of others, had questions about his character. We weren't going to pick him and we have other players on our team now that fit what we are trying to do. Its done. Its over. I will only think of Dez Bryant or care about him when we play the Cowboys. Other than that....never. I don't care.
Haters gonna hate, bro. That's all it is. The guys that want Ireland gone (for woefully inadequate reasons mind you) see this as ammunition. It's nonsense. Those questions are designed to illicit an emotional response, particularly from those with perceived character issues. He apologized. Dez accepted. The end. Move on and kick it off.
well we all know how to get under the skin of Dez now. If he's having a good day, a cornerback only needs to call his mom a crackwhore to try to get him off his game. When Dez goes out to check out the nightlife in New York, Giants fans will know how to get under his skin. Eventually there will be a bar fight and a lawsuit
Maybe next time someone interviews Jeff Ireland for a job (and believe me, he won't be staying in Miami forever), the interviewer should ask if people ever ran a train on his mother. See how he likes a taste of his own medicine.
Do me a favor. Do some homework. See what his mother has done. Look at HER rapsheet, and tell me this question was completely out of left field. C'mon, man.
I don't care if Dez's mom was the most infamous prostitute in the country, it was the wrong thing for Ireland to do to ask the question the way he did. At the very least, it shows a lack of tact. Quite possibly, it shows a lack of character. I can't say I'm completely surprised.
See my above point about the haters looking to cling to something. Besides, Dez and his character issues weren't really something I was interested in bringing aboard. He apologized. What do you think he should re-sign? Really? Over this nonissue?
This will hurt Ireland's draft status. He may slip to round2 because of character concerns. I doubt Parcells will be interested in a diva like Ireland.
I don't hate him, but I think he's probably a jerk. I don't think he should resign. I think he should probably work to become a better person, but apparently being a decent person is not really an essential qualification for most jobs.
The only shame in this entire issue, was that it became public. Perhaps the question was meant to measure a prospects sense of descretion?
So I wonder what folks will think now that Ireland has come out and said they offered J.T. a contract at the END of the season and J.T. turned it down. So that's now 2 contracts on record J.T. turned down.
of course look at their motivations....Greenie is an avowed and boisterous Jets fans. Golic was discarded by Shula during a training camp or early in a season (it was Shula's last season) because he was over the hill. They clearly each have an axe to grind with the Dolphins, and they have an agenda. But still..... You have to wonder if this gets too loud and embarassing for the NFL will they in the HQ in New York be forced to act for PR reasons ? Could the Dolphins lose a draft pick because of this ? I think its a real possibility. If that does happen, Ireland better had hit on every single pick, because then Ross would have every right to fire him, and use this as an excuse. He has given Carl Peterson just the tool he may have needed to get Parcells and Co. out the door so he can get in here and prove that his mistakes in Kansas City were not his fault (somehow). You just know he is chomping at the bit to get back into a drivers seat in the NFL.
I believe it was a horrible question to ask, but how did you find out how he asked it? I never heard a clip or heard anyone say how he asked the question "the way he did". I agree with what Vinny said:
Ireland is the only one who asked this question, but it sounds like other teams were asking pretty bad questions about his mother as well. "I got a lot of questions like that: Does she still do drugs? I sat and answered all of them." Clearly, Ireland's question was out of bounds and should never have been asked, but he wasn't the only one out there with a similiar line of questioning.
This is such a stupid topic because it contains no context. Some readers are just certain that the line of questioning went like this: "Were you late for practices and meetings?" "Why could you not tell the truth concerning the meetings with Deion?" "How would you best describe your work ethic?" "HAS YOUR MOTHER EVER BEEN A PROSTITUTE?" ...............and that's exactly how peckerhead Silva wrote the article. But if a young man was sitting in front of you telling you about his upbringing....... "She was only 12 when she had you?" "She was taking narcotics while you were a youth?" "Did she ever prostitute herself to support her drug habit?" ..............and even this short blurb doesn't do justice to what may have been discuss in an interview that was quite possibly over an hour. You just do not know the context of the question. You do not know if Ireland was acting as prosecutor or acting as a concerned HUMAN BEING for a young person that has been through alot in his young life. I've been in conversations like this. You tip toe in the question but the question originates from a general concern for the individual. You are just listening and talking. You ask the question because you want to know. You want to know the depth of what he's been through in his life. It has nothing to do with the job interview and it probably had little to do with a curiosity about his mother. It could have had everything to do with concern for a human life. Silva never gave any thought to the fact that he was listening to a confused young man. Why would I say confused? Well obviously he is confused. He doesn't even know that you don't have to lie about hanging out with Deion Sanders. None-the-less we are sitting around here deriding a man who DID NOT have a 12 year old, drug addict for a mother. And what are we deriding him for? Because he didn't know that being a prostitute was worse than being a pregnant 12 year old? Or is it because he didn't know that being a prostitute was worse than being a drug addict? Filfth is filfth in my book. And if you are comfortable enough talking about your 12 year old mother with a drug addiction, I would think you would have no quarrels answering a question about a profession.
I'm actually surprised but it doesn't look like anyone has gotten some "leave time" due to this thread. Just shows the members here can be respectful and polite while disagreeing.
Doesnt require leave time...just the SIDES and over reaction to insignificant events as TIME FILLERs. PoFo has many examples of respectful and polite discussion.
my last post on this thread: the whole affair w/blown out of proportion & is as absurd as it is unfair we finally have a crew running things that is competent & has the cajones to make the tough calls needed our adversaries & detractors will exploit this kind of thing to our detriment nothing good in this thread for Miami ManUp& move on
so no one thinks there is the possibility of a fine or worse, the loss of a draft pick by the NFL, just to sooth over feelings and appear PC ? I think at the very least we get a fine, and a 50-50 chance of losing a draft pick. They may make an example of us
We won't lose a draft pick over it, I can all but guarantee that. I think the NFL just wants this to go away. Spygate was a different story, they HAD to do something. This was one dumb question asked by a GM who apologized. Over and done with.
Who wants Ireland gone? He's done a pretty good job so far. Not without mistakes, but all in all pretty good.
