What an ***hole! What it should have said is: I see all these other people grading their draft as an A or B and now I look like douche.
Just don't like the way he grades the draft. If I would have seen some speck of reason with his past grades I would say yes. It's obvious that he has his high profile player chart that he uses to gauge how a team drafted. I guess I should give him some credit for saying "I was wrong" in a round about sort of way.
I think it's his inflexibility that really grates some people. Where as Mayock would say they didn't chose 'My Guy' let me reason this out on why they chose who they chose. Kiper on the other hand seems to throw some sort of hissy fit if/when people go against 'his' board. Also his statement that Misi could me 'better than he thought' just tells me he really doesn't do nearly as much research as he would like people to believe. It took him an additional 4 day's to figure out that 'Hey this guy is pretty good!". I mean come on. Anyway I admit I am totally biased against Kiper. After watching him for so many years I have just come to the realization that the guy is a clown. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!
Kiper makes a living grading players, when someone takes a guy higher than he thinks he should go he defends his position, nothing to get upset about. Sometimes he has a guy ranked lower than where he's taken but the guy fits a system and is more valuable to a team than to Mel. Mel's been at this for decades, he has to defend his rankings, its his job to grade according to his ratings, he's good at it. Just because he doesn't like your team's draft doesn't mean anything, he's wrong sometimes, GM's are wrong, it happens.
I wonder if he still thinks Tim Tebow is an H Back.? Tune in in 3 yrs when he has an slippery explanation for that.
Tebow will never be a successful QB, so I agree. And it's not like he's never admitted to being wrong.
I agree. I think alot of people, even some on here were having "WTF" moments when we made our picks. But after it sank in, it made alot more sense. I would rather someone observe the facts, look at them and correct themselves than stubbornly insist their original position is correct.
“Of all those grades I gave that might have been a little harsh, that’s the only team I might have adjusted,” Kiper said. “It’s a very subjective gut feel, I put those things up 10 minutes after the draft. “If I had a mulligan, I probably would have given Miami a C-plus not a C-minus.” http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...ve-selected-tcus-jerry-hughes-in-first-round/
i'll be one to admit that i jumped the gun on the odrick pick. i fired with both barrels when we past on hughes. let some emotions get in the way. i feel better now. i wanted graham all along but i understand why we moved out and were able to grab misi. i think that was a great pick and i like everything after that really. i never had a problem with taking a guard where we did. that was a need that had to be addressed. i love the scheme possiibilities with our front seven on D.
Other people don't make a year round living out of selling draft information. If you ask anyone about Kiper like him or hate him if they know him they will associate him to his evaluation of college players and how they will translate to the next level. Are people allowed to change their minds? Of course they are. What movie do you want to see hun? Wait I changed my mind. What do you want for Dinner dear? Wait I changed my Mind. All those are perfectly fine. When an engineer realizes a mistake minutes after the shuttle has taken off that's NOT ok. I mean its not like he has all year to prepare for this one event.
Many draft graders, probably MK to some extent, grade in a vacuum. Said another way, they look at the players you draft and assume you don't have any other players on your team. So who drafted the best postion players, etc. They also don't take into account the three most important positions on the team....QB, OL, and DL. If you draft consistently good in those areas, your team will probably be consistently (pretty) good. Screw those areas up, and your team will not be good, regardless of how much talent you may have at other positions. The best news of all for the Fins, I think we are near an over abundance of talent in almost all three areas. If Jared Odrek andJohn Jerry are as good as I think they will be...and Henne improves like I think he should....this team is going to be good for a very long time. It will certainly help having Brandon Marshall to throw to. It would help more if we could rob someones TE....but I'd take a great QB with great protection and avg everything else on offense.
Those steroids must be kickin' in, eh KP? Seriously though, I have to admit...I agree. Most of my somewhat negative knee jerk reactions have given way to my feeling very optimistic and encouraged really. I think the Edds and Jones picks may end up being looked back on as draft day steals (fingers crossed). Guess what I'm sayin' is I guess I can sorta understand Kiper's back pedal. But, really...a C+?! C'mon Kiper!
Jesus, show some backbone Kiper! Sure you look like a douche when everyone else had given us a B or an A grade, but you are still entitled to your opinion.
But still...there are alot of players that are a great fit on one team and may not be a great fit on another. If he, after a day or so of reflections says, "you know what, that move may work (or not, Denver) for that team..." I am willing to give anyone that kind of benefit. To know Miami's team, you would know that we needed NT, OLB, S, ILB, OG, and so on. So the draftnik is going to say we should draft need in that order. However, you might not know (even if you keep up with the Fins) that we had a NT on our roster, we were in position to make our strongest position stronger....etc, etc. There is a case to make that we should have drafted "other" players. To say otherwise is absurd. But to say there isn't a great case for the players we did draft is equally absurd.
I understand what you're saying bro but have you ever listened to Mayock and how 'fluid' he is? Someone picks a different player, any player and he knows just about everything there is to know about the guy and he knows the teams very well. He explains why a player is a fit and if he doesn't think the player is a fit he try's to envision what the team is thinking. It's his job to know these things as its what he gets paid to do and its why Mayock is the best. No one has to tell me that Kiper was the first and for that he will always be held is a high regard, but being first doesn't make you the best or even good for that matter. He is supposed to know Misi's strengths and weakness. Its what he gets paid to do. I don't know him well enough to say its his only job but it certainly is the one job he rests his reputation on. He should have known that before the draft. This is just another case where Kiper got caught with his pants down and was completely unprepared IMO.
If its an honest "On second thought" Sure, I buy it. And since this is the only team he really did that with, I'm inclined to go with that. But I still think as "THE" major draft head, he's kind of a little full of himself, and his grades are insanely biased by his draft system. To go against what he outlined in his system is to say to everyone "I'm full of ****"
tired of being "kippered"? Kiper has never been kind to Miami he simply doesn't like the Dolphins obviously, he's forced to re-evaluate because Miami is the DarkHorse & must be contended with on the field not going to be an easy road to walk We will Contend in 2010!
He took it upon himself to know what he knows and market himself. Hes deserves credit for making the draft part of the spectacle that it is. When I see people say they hate him...I know he is sooooo doing what he wanted. As long as people aren't indifferent to him, he's doing his job.
Kiper simply is no friend of Miami Kiper is not an unbiased broker he demands no respect from me I could care less what he said to be "kippered", disrespected, screwed etc.
after he kippered us? I don't think so. there is a pattern here. he simply is not a friend of the franchise. he doesn't like the Dolphins
