As opposed to most of my threads/posts, this is actually very serious....and it is something iam thinking very hard about.

Currently i have an ok job (but its a job) working at suntrust bank. Most of the time iam working as a teller due to being under staffed. but i am actually a financial specialist (opening loans, mortgages, accounts etc)

I have grown very tired of the commission here, its pennies to the dollar. I am literally responsible for a client i met outside of work, brining over 600k to the bank in new money. my commission? 17 dollars.

ridiculous. Its not worth the work put in. i love the hours, and the work isnt physically demanding. But being in control of 200k+ dollars and the heart and soul of the branch (iam the vault teller) is very stressful, and mentally draining.

down in florida i installed hurricane shutters and doors.....i was sweaty, tired and physically beaten down when i got home, but mentally....i was fine. this job...iam mentally exhausted and drained when i get home, it sucks.

Anyways....i got a call and interview with costco to be the maintence guy part time....the hours? they rock. friday and saturday nights 6-11. sunday morning 6-10 am....and weeknight here or there. the best part? i can take my son out of day care.

for example i bring home 1600 bucks a month after taxes from suntrust, i pay 580 a month for daycare (its ****ing ridiculous....thats as much as my rent)

so factor in me making around 13-14 bucks an hour....25-30 hours a week and not paying for daycare......plus time with my son daily, and home more than iam working.

    so lets recap.

    at suntrust.....1600 bring home a month (-) 580 daycare = 1020 (net total)

costco....less hours...paid hollidays, time and 1/2 sunday pay....

    iam guessing 14 an hour....

    14/hr(x)25 hours = 1400ish a month.....after taxes....1050.....no day care...

    (costco)1050>(suntrust)1020

plus iam home 11 pm fridays, 10 saturdays, and ill be home daily with my son and step daughter when shes here for the summer. it seems like win/win

i hear costco is good place to work, good pay, good benefits etc.

so am i missing something? my wife is scared of change. but it seems like such a great opportunity to keep my son out of daycare, more time with him, and most importantly no more working with the public!!!!!!!!!!

    no offense :shifty:

so talk me into or out've this.

Do what your heart tells you.

You're far too young to be stuck in a job you hate, where you're being literally exploited and undercompensated.

Add to that Costco's benefits and pay, and the fact that throughout this recession they have not suffered, and I think it's a sound move.

Do whatever you think you will enjoy. I've learned that taking less pay to be happier is well worth it. But in your case, it seems that you'll be technically making the same. I think your son would be a lot happier too if you took the other job.

Why don't you work both jobs for a month and see which job you like more. You will get ahead on bills and save some money away while still being in a great job to make thd best choice on your future.

I agree with Skeet...I currently am in flux becuase I have my own company be it a small "baby" of a company, and I have a good union job in wich I make 31 bucks an hour but the bottom line is I dont exist 5 months a year with my union job...

Im struggling between gambling my GOOD job vs my happiness and the prospect of being my own boss...I still dont know what to do Sick, it is the toughest decision I have ever had. I have mouths to feed so i feel guilty for taking the risk of doing my own thing. This is an issue Im dealing with as we speak and I honestly just do not know what to do.

GL to you in this decision and I wish I could give you advice in good consience.

And I expect your son to be posting here in a few years. Talking about boobies and making smart *** comments.

To be honest, it sounds like you have already made your decision. The argument is skewed in favor of Costco, and thus, everyone will tell you to take that job.

I am not saying to stay at the bank, but just make sure that the costco job lives up to whatever you need it too. Often times, people make decisions based on word of mouth or thinking the best case scenario is the norm without fully vetting the position.

I would try to talk to the current guys and see how they like it, what the demands are, etc.

Also, it sounds like you already have, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Meaning that, especially in today's climate, it is never wise to leave a job without having another one 100% secured. Take me for example. I have been with the same company for close to nine years and am completely burnt out on it. But I wouldn't DARE leave right now considering people with more experience and education would literally kill for my job right now.

So I guess what I am saying is that you need to be careful and 100% sure that this will equal more money/time/happiness for you in the long term.

Costco seems like a solid company that seems to harvest "lifers" and probably tries ot hire from within when positions become available throughout the coorporation. Which means it is always better to be on the ground floor and work your way up.

edit: Oh and I have seen how you drink...if you cut the beer budget in half, you would be rolling in dough.

I like how Sam tells you to cut back on the beer fund...kettle meet pot...

Like Sam said, you have already made up your mind here. As long as you leave on good terms with the bank go for it.

If I made less money in a job, but got to see my kid on weekdays, I'd take it in a heartbeat. That's just me though. Of course, bills are a concern, but it sounds like you're coming out ahead when factoring in Day Care costs.

What I would do first, before making any final decisions, is approach your bank to see if there are any higher positions that pay more. Tell them you feel you deserve more than you are making given the amount of business you bring them. They may say they can't afford it, or it's just not feasible, but you have to do your due diligence.

Keep the Suntrust and take the Costco job for extra money you lazy jackoff! Then you'll be physically tired, mentally tired and your wife and kid won't recognize you. Then, when you croak in a few years she'll have good money in the bank and I'll move up to NC to comfort her.
