What are you talking about? Mankind has existed for thousands of years and its no secret that men naturally and instinctively react with physical aggression. What would you have done, called your lawyer?

Look, maybe you did not have a close relationship with your mother, but don't go generalizing that it is silly for someone to get pissed off when asked by a stranger if their mother hooked.

Again you're generalizing. You said you would EVENTUALLY get pissed, so what does that tell you? THAT YOU WOULD GET PISSED TOO. YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF TOLERANCE BEFORE THEY GET PISSED.

So if Dez is a grown man and being interviewed for HIS OWN CAREER, whats the point with asking about HIS MOTHER'S PAST?

Again, what the eff are you talkin about? What ego chip? Because Dez got upset because a stranger asked him if his mother had sex for money?

And thats why you're here on the forums and not a GM of any team. Guaranteed if this was on the Jets or Patriots, it would be unacceptable. But because its on the Fins, we can do no wrong. Its something called "class" which obviously a lot of people do not have.

Are you serious? Really? What guy wants to have that question about their mother thrown at them? Especially at his interview? I'm starting to question if people on this forum just did not have a good relationship with their folks.

Thats not my decision, all I'm pointing out is that the question was beyond rude yet people here are supporting Ireland.

What if Dez said "Growing up, my mom was on the streets alot." Then Ireland asked him.

Would that make the question ok?

People are blowing it way out of proportion. I have a great relationship with my mother...if someone asked me that question, I'd be like, "...Uh...no...why?". Wouldn't really piss me off at all. Do you guys get bent when some silly person make a Yo Mamma joke? Not to mention, physical aggression is no way to solve a situation. Everyone's a badazz on teh internets!!!

Please don't throw every poster on this forum into the same pool and try to psycho analyze us all. Something tells me you're not qualified.

Fair enough, I'm guessing he's (Dez) going to hear this line of talk from every CB he faces in the coming year. :pointlol:

Seriously this thing has been overblown. Its mostly media manufactured outrage and I'm sure as much as Jeff wishes this would go away so does Dez.

I can fully agree with the decorum part. Actually, i can agree with this whole thing outside of the attack on your dignity as a person. I personally view something like what was said as disrespectful, but not more of an attack on my dignity as a person as someone I'm saying (and actually believing) that I'm stupid. Sure it's no fun to hear, but some dumbass saying it doesn't make it true. That's how I've felt about these things since I was a kid. I in general hold most people that I meet in low regard and find that most people are pretty ignorant. Thus I give the stuff that comes out of their mouths very little credence. Certainly not enough to be personally offended if they were to flap their gums.

I can understand being pissed that Ireland crossed the line (I think he did). But all I've heard all day is Golic, Wilbon, and a host of internet posters screaming about how Bryant would have been within his rights to take Ireland's head off, and how they would have done so if they were in the same situation. Which I find utterly ridiculous.

...........I won't dignify that portion with a response....

Why would i call my lawyer? I'd have ignored it or made a snide comment and went on with my life. That's what grownups do.

I had and still have a close relationship with my mother. She's the one that taught me that it's silly to get upset about what other people think. It doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks about me, I'm still me, and no matter what they do, they can't change that with words. If I spent my time getting upset at stupid things other people say and do, then I'd have no time to live a productive life.

I didn't generalize at all. I left open the scenario where someone I love is being verbally abused (and thus hurt) by other people, but I never said I'd resort to throwing stuff around or taking someone's head off. I'd tell someone off, but not get physical over something they said. If your tolerance for other people is so low that you'd attack someone for something that they said I suggest you get help.

I didn't said there was one. But talking heads and message board posters beating their digital chests about how Des was within his rights to haul off on Ireland is outlandish.

That wasn't in reference to Dez's ego chip, it was to the slew of people promoting physical violence over words. Dez acted like a grown up, and got through the interview without punching Ireland. I have no problem with Dez being hurt by the question.

I WOULD look at this situation and question if Dez was wise to bring it up later.......had he kept his mouth shut he'd have saved himself a lot of jawing on the field, and protected his mother rather than thrusting her in the public eye as the recipient of a negative label.....but i can understand his frustration.

After having now read about this both here and in the club the thing that surprises me the most is this whole "Poor, poor Dez the mistreated player" attitude. Jeff gets dressed down while the diva WR gets to score a point. It makes me even more glad he's on another team rather than ours. No wonder he slipped to the Boys, the talk concerning his immaturity appears to be spot on.

If I'm making a judgement call as to just who has the class between Jeff and Dez Jeff walks away spotless while Dez just added to his already growing Diva status. Jmo of course.

y? who cares, nothing was wrong about what he asked.....there should be nothing done to him....consider this, if Roshenhaus is saying this type of stuff happens, what the hell is the big deal, other than the sensitive types deem it offensive....

Totally saw that coming. All it takes is one person to get upset and pretty soon everyone is up in arms in a crusade.

People need to learn to just live and let live. There's plenty of more serious things in this world to get upset over than someone asking someone elses mother if they were a whore.

I think this shows even more immature Dez really is. He pitched a fit about shoegate, and tried to play it off by imitating what Manning said to the Colts before he was drafted. Now, that question comes out almost a week after being drafted by the Cowboys. I think he decided to have some more minutes of fame and milk this question. So far, every story about Dez has been bad. I think that after his drama so far this off season, Ireland did the right thing to ask a question that would get under Dez's skin.

Tasteless question? Yes. Should Ireland be fined or fired over it? No. If Goodell insists that Ross fire Ireland over this, it will be painfully obvious that favoritism is given to the Patriots and Steelers. Belicheck cheats and gets away with it. Big Ben rapes girls, and gets away with a suspension. Ireland asks an uncomfortable question, and its the end of the world.

Does it show immaturity on Dez's part? Absolutely. Bookmark this post because I'm calling it right now: T.O. + Ryan Leaf= Dez. He will be a bust, and will hurt the Cowboys. And, I'm sure some of the opponents he faces will throw 'yo momma's a ho' jokes at him, and he will throw a tantrum, and get penalized or ejected.

Ireland didn't sit down with Dez and make the statement, "Your mom is a whore Dez."

He asked if she was ever a prostitute. She was locked up for selling drugs, which is worse than if she had been a prostitute to begin with. He had a right to ask it, and if Dez would have kept his big fat mouth shut, rather than crying to Mark Silver, the rest of the planet would remain oblivious to the entire matter.

As for your question, if you are about to pay me millions of dollars, you could ask me anything, including that. Dez should be thinking about how he is now set for life financially with a modicum of proper management, and what he has to do to justify the faith Jerbo and the Boys showed in him by drafting him. Not whining to the media over some question that got his feathers all ruffled.

In today's NFL, when players are being stripped from their teams by multi-game suspensions not necessarily for shooting anyone but being somewhere when the shot is fired, not for buying prostitutes but for being in a place where prostitutes are bought (strip clubs), not for being a crack dealer but for being surrounded by people who do, knowing about a prospect's inner circle of family and friends is ABSOLUTELY relevant and is a dynamic that must be exhaustively explored to ensure that your franchise is not wasting a draft pick, tens of millions of dollars, and games on a guy who just can't escape the dark cloud of trouble that has surrounded him his entire existence and just might cast a cancerous shadow over the beloved franchise for whom you owe your great job and comforable lifestyle. Your damn right he had the right to ask the question, and he should have as well. Bryant was born to a single teenage mother who's past is entangled with illegal drug trafficking, and for a teenage female, that line of work all too often is accompanied by the trading of certain other services, so it's not a leap of faith to suspect the woman was exactly what Ireland asked she was. It's also very likely a sore subject for this young man, and could very well wind up leading to Dez finding himself entangled in that same world all too quickly, particularly since it's his Mother.

Just offering an unpopular but valid line of reasoning for your consideration.

No..children instinctively act that way. Men do not typically react with physical aggression.
Men have reached a level of maturity that allows them to exercise restraint and better judgment. Men realize that in a civilized society you look for alternate ways to express your anger.

the NFL reflects this reality. violence contrived & set to rule. it is what it is: the Coliseum. a famous Spanish poet (Ibenez) once wrote of the BullFight: "w/o blood there is no beauty..." Just another way of looking @ things

back to the thread: enough of hypocrisy & political correctness imposed upon the game we love. No, Ireland should not respond to the NFL in any way, shape or form for his actions.

Well when someone jabs him next year with some smack about his mother IT IS HIS FAULT. It wasn't Ireland or the Dolphins that made this a public issue, that came straight from Bryant. That IS his fault.
