One mentions specious later on, but this is perhaps ones own version?

White had 50 snaps...Henne had 700 or more, Williams had hundreds of carries, as did Brown, what exactly was one's hope for 50 plays?

With 50 plays to review, that is not exactly a telling statement.

    Criticizing?

Chad Henne was "given a year to learn how to play" in 2008, White was thrust into the game on Opening Day, Henne was valued as a prospect, White is disparaged.

And that is the notion I heartily disagree with, why erase or ignore White's rookie status while dismissing Henne's?

Pat White threw...5 passes..that is a impossibly small sample to make such a bold statement.

The real danger is keeping him over Thigpen - if Thigpen plays better - only because White is a 2nd round pick.[/QUOTE]

Thigpen was picked off twice in a single qtr when he did play and yet, he is summarily granted "oh, he is much better" status, Thigpen threw more passes in 1 Qtr than White threw all season long.

Once again, let White have a similar number of passes and then we have an equal basis for comparison.

A risk that if it works we will have a huge edge on every team we play is worth that sort of investment.

Or White is the key to making it work even better, recall the Jest toasted the Colts with the WC in the AFC Title game.

No, I wouldn't cut him, not after one season with limited reps.

And we shall see if White has improved or not in about..3 weeks...

Well, the first point is that it's similar with the wildcat. Used sparingly but effectively. 50 plays is still 50 plays. Secondly, the point of the comparison I made was speaking to the question of whether White's plays hindered or benefited drives. Relative to the other offensive sets, White's presence was a hindrance. That is the only point of the comparison, not whether he had enough plays or not to be judged long term - those are two different points that need not be lumped together.

Actually it's not. Pat White threw 21 passes (16 in the preseason). Just as one could see great promise from Henne's play in the preseason in both his rookie season and last season, one could see enough that he does not show the promise - in terms of form, in terms of accuracy, etc. the potential that Henne shows.

It didn't take long to see Henne, in the preseason of his rookie year, as a player who could make some special throws. He just needed to show through work, experience, etc. that he had great potential.

Just haven't seen that in White at all in the preseason or regular season.

Certainly, the more passes, the better comparison. I'm fine to say, "If White changes, and starts playing like a Brees, keep him!"

But, what is your point about the Thigpen interceptions? So what? The reason goes to the same point as Henne. I look at both Thigpen and White - and at this stage, Thigpen is a pro QB with potential. White? Just does not look that way - it's not that he made a mistake or two. It's his play as a QB. Doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a shot since he's in camp. And, I never said I don't think both should be on equal footing with the coaches entering into camp. I think they should be.

But, I think in the time White has been there, that unless he goes into a phone booth and comes out a different human - he's not an NFL QB.

Not at all, White's presence was on the whole positive, which is why White was the QB when Ricky W went in for the two point conversion against the titans.

White had one series with the first string offense in the preseason, how many series has Henne had in the two years backing up Pennington in the preseason?

    What..8 qtrs? Maybe more?

Your line of thinking would have seen Brees released before he became "Drew Brees".

My point about the 2 interceptions is many, including oneself, is more than happy to anoint Thigpen as the #2 Qb despite the two int's including the one at the goal line that sealed the loss in the final game..if White had thrown two picks in a similar situation one would cheer for his outright waiver.

That's fine, it is your opinion to hold.

And I watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon when I was a kid.....and had as much to do with the accomplishment as White did getting Ricky into the end zone.

Repeat after me.....he should never even been picked let alone taking snaps with the first team. Let it go...

I saw Drew Brees as a rookie play against us in pre season..... he looked great. Like a solid QB prospect.... It's a huge stretch to mention the two in the same sentence.

You put both Thigpen on the trading block right now........Thigpen has your phone ringing off the hook and White doesn't even get a sniff. You'd have a hard time making an argument in this league that White has more value or upside than Thigpen.

And when it comes to keeping White or one of these young promising rooks, I'll take the outright waiver right now please..

Here is my problem with Pat White. The insistence by Sparano and our front office that he is a QB. It concerns me that we would not try him at other positions and it concerns me that he might not be willing to play other positions. I love Pat White's athleticism but he has not shown anything to make anybody believe he can play QB in the NFL. Not yet anyway.

I also believe we made a mistake drafting him so high. Expectations are too great.

The were several people who thought Pat White would add a dimension to the Wildcat. I have a problem with that too. Here is why. Henne is usually on the field when we run the Wildcat. With Henne on the field there is always the threat of faking a run, flipping it to him, and letting our QB throw. You want to stack the box? Go right ahead. I'll take a wide open Cobbs for a touchdown every week.

The strength of the Wildcat is not the element of surprise. Not anymore. We caught the Pats off-guard in 2008 but that is over. No the strength of the Wildcat is simply an extra blocker. That is it. You eliminate the hand-off which allows the QB to line up wide, one of your receivers comes off the field, and an extra blocker goes in.

That is why we have been so successful with the Wildcat. Give Ronnie or Ricky an extra blocker and look out. It seems particularly effective in the redzone.
