Looks like Dice-K is back and they will find a home in the rotation for him soon, he always makes for interesting and agonizing baseball..

Word is Wakefield has been told he's headed to the pen when Matsuzaka comes back.

Buchholz is certainly pitching like he belongs in the rotation so far.

Buchholz was pretty damn good last night and deserved more than getting hit with the L. Hopefully this is a big boost for him and he's ready to take the next step. His stuff was probably the best it's been since his no hitter.

The Pirates traded OF Jonathan Van Every to the Red Sox for a player to be named later on Saturday. The Red Sox optioned OF Josh Reddick to Triple-A Pawtucket to clear room on the roster.

Sox signed a 22 year old Cuban catcher, Adalberto Ibarra, to a 5 year major league deal worth $4.3 million dollars. Ibarra has also played 1B, 2B and 3B in his career.

I've never heard of the guy so it should be interesting to see scouting reports and some information on the guy once it's made official. I'm just hoping that the guy can both hit and play solid defense.

EDIT: So far from what I can gather he hits left handed, has a very good arm, is known as a leader on and off the field and many MLB teams were scouting him as a catcher.

    Interesting stat:

    Beckett in 2009 thru 28.2 IP, 7.22 ERA, 37 H, 13 BB
    Beckett in 2010 thru 28.2 IP, 7.22 ERA, 36 H, 16 BB

I'm still not worried about him or anyone else on the staff but they need to start getting their act together and fast. I wouldn't be surprised if Atchison is sent down to the minors before tomorrow's game and the Sox get a fresh arm (Bowden, Embree?) since the bullpen has really been over worked lately. Plus Atchison has sucked all year so there's no point in him staying especially if he'll be back down once Matsuzaka is back. EDIT: The Sox have called up Fabio Castro a LHP who was scheduled to start in Triple A today and sent Atchison down as expected.

Nice to see the bats get going but man I really dislike this team right now. They have to grind out every win especially against these crappy teams, not good right now. Okajima has really sucked lately too. I will give credit to Delcarmen as he has been pitching well lately.

Great start from Clay tonight, he has really looked impressive this year. I didn't get to see the game but Simmons tweeted that Ortiz's walk to the dugout when he was pinch hit for was very sad.

Yeah it was depressing to see. It looked like a little kid being told his dog was dead and the kid slowly walks up the stairs and into his room.

But man Clay Buchholz was very very good tonight. The Sox needed him to pitch deep into the game and he gave us 8 strong innings. The 8th was extremely important to his development as the Sox made an error behind him and that put the tying run on 2nd base with 1 out and I truly believe last year Buchholz would have melted down but he stayed focused and K'ed the next guy and got out of the inning. It was a big win for the Sox with Papelbon, Bard and Okajima out.

Hopefully Lester builds on his last start and this pitching staff gets on a roll now.

P.S. GM, what's your twitter name/id? Either PM me or post it here and I'll hit you up on it.

Lester with some great pitching tonight, glad to see the Sox on a little roll, you knew the pitching had to come around sometime. Bard has been on fire his last couple of outings too. Last 3 outings, 3 innings pitched with 8 K's..

Yeah Lester was dominate. That's what we expect from him each time out. Hopefully Lackey, Beckett and Matsuzaka can continue to build on the strong starts by Lester and Buchholz.

Yeah Bard has been dealing lately too. Papelbon also has been throwing much better and he's mixing his pitches too which is nice to see.

Yeah really happy with pitching the last two outings. McDonald is really helping us out alot. We really need to sweep the Orioles because we are in for a tough schedule in May

Lars Anderson has graduated from Double A and is moving on to Triple A. I can say that in the very least Anderson has a cup of coffee with the Sox this year. Hopefully he continues to mash.

I'm pumped Matsuzaka is back! Ugh. The Sox just missed a golden opportunity to pick up 2 games on Tampa and 1 on NY. Not a good start to this team at all. Hopefully Beckett can rebound. It's still very early in the year but I don't have a lot of excitement or hope for this team at the moment.

I really hate this team. There just seems to be no life out of the everyday players except Pedroia, Youkilis, Varitek and McDonald (seriously how bad would we be Tek and Darnell right now?). I don't think the team is this bad but I don't think we're nearly as good or close to being as good as NY or Tampa. This team needs to snap out of it and do it now since the next 7 games are against the Angels and Yankees.

Just looked at the Sox May schedule and its beyond brutual. They have to play the Angels, Yankees, Blue Jays, @ Tigers, @ Yankees, Twins, @ Phillies, and @ Tampa. This team could probably be out of the race by June 1st if they continue this pace.

There apparently seems to be some tension in the clubhouse (I know I'm shocked that losing teams don't get along either). Besides from the obvious moves like Ortiz being cut or a bullpen move here and there, I don't see a whole lot of movement player wise this team can do to get better right now since there's no one in the minors that's both a good player and ready to make a difference. And the only players that are likely to be traded with value IF the team falls out of the race would be Victor Martinez, Papelbon and Beltre and I don't see any of those players bringing in a whole lot of prospects.

I really think this is going to be a down year while the team looks to regroup for 2011, I know it's still early but this team just isn't good. Martinez has been horrible both offensively and defensively (seriously how smart does the FO look for not trading Buchholz for him straight up last year or extending him in the off season), Beltre has zero power and his D has been shakey, Ellsbury and Cameron haven't played, Youkilis and Drew haven't really got hot yet, Ortiz is terrible, the starters has been really bad for the most part although they're starting to turn things around now. It's just the perfect storm of players sucking all at once.

We'll trade you Jayson Werth for Buchholz and Bard. Deal???? We know you guys are tired of J.D. Drew.

Now why would the Sox do that when Werth is a FA after this year and the team still controls Buchholz for at least 3 more years and Bard for 4 more?

I have to confess that I absolutely hate watching Adrian Beltre play baseball. The guy has zero plate discipline -- hacking away at everything. I think most of us thought he'd be a SLG heavy OPS guy, but he's basically been a slap singles hitter in the mold of Brett Gardner, minus the speed. Its only a matter of time before his BABIP plummets, because its certainly not sustainable at its current rate. Let's just say that if April was any indication, his glove won't come close to making up for his shortcomings at the plate.

And don't get me started on Papelbon. His regression over the past couple of seasons has been simply astonishing. Screw him and his Rick Vaughn attitude.

Someone better get Theo's gorilla suit ready. If this team is out of contention by Memorial Day, a distinct possibility if they don't wake up, he's going to need it.

Completely agree with you on Beltre, the guy has zero power since his shoulder injury last year. I'm starting to wonder if he's even hit a HR in batting practice yet. I mean the guy hasn't had a HR all year, including ST games. And Beltre has been very disappointing in the field too. Yeah he makes some absolute great plays but also makes a lot of boneheaded ones too. And his base running is bad as well. He's certainly not what I expected. I figured he'd be Mike Lowell circa 2006-2008 minus the OBP. He's going to be a big scapegoat for the 2010 season if things don't turn around.

Papelbon has actually thrown the ball well this year compared to last year. He's using his splitter more and getting a lot mroe swings and misses. He's the least of this team's problems.

Hopefully tonight is the first step towards a nice long run and not just 1 game. Nice to see this team out their swinging the bats, I'm just worried they used up all of their runs for the rest of the week.

Big big win tonight. Lester was dominant again tonight, as was Papelbon who looked the best since 2007. His splitter was just plain nasty tonight.

I hate to say it but Lowell's 8th inning hit might have unofficially ended the David Ortiz era in Boston. I think as soon as Cameron and/or Ellsbury comes back he'll be released with Van Every going to Triple A. It's sad but it's something that has to be done.

Lackey tomorrow should be a fun game. It's also Nomar Garciaparra day at Fenway tomorrow, it's always a treat to see him so that should be good too.

I think Lowell is much better suited for the team than Ortiz. Even as old as Lowell is he can still give some guys off days @ 1st and 3rd base.

Yeah, like I said I think Ortiz's days are numbered especially with Lowell swinging the bat so well. With Ellsbury and Cameron close to return, I believe Cameron might even go out on a minor league rehab assignment next week, it's only a matter of time before the Sox will have to make a very tough decision. I really do think if Ortiz doesn't really turn things around he'll be released with the Sox keeping Darnell McDonald up as the 5th OF. So basically barring any injury Cameron and Ellsbury would replace Van Every (who'd go to Triple A) and Ortiz (who would be released).

Remember as great as Ortiz has been for the franchise, Theo has shown that winning is more important than keeping a player just because of past history, hence why Nomar, Pedro, Lowe, Damon and Manny were sent out of town. It's really sad but the Sox can't wait around for Ortiz to possibly find his swing again.

Looks like Francona is ready to give Ortiz more time and start him tonight vs. Pineiro since he has done well in the past. The other night was awful, he left 7 runners on with 2 K's and two double plays. Everyone has slumps but I just don't see Ortiz climbing out of this one anytime soon. Does anyone think he has some 4-5 nights left in him, I have seen nothing recently to tell me he doesn't..

Green I dont see him going 4-5 anytime soon. He is having problems getting 4 hits in 4 games much less all in the same game. His bat speed is so bad and because of that he is late and chasing. Lowell has been on fire and is 5 for 5 in his last 5 at bats (With 5 rbi). Also with the way Varitek keeps homering we may have to put him @ DH. lol

I'll have to remember it when the Yankees have a Joe Torre Day and everyone cheers and ends up loving the guy again. It happens in every sport with every team.

The fact is yeah the Nomar Era ended very badly but they doesn't change the fact that he was a great player for the team in the years he was here. He deserves to have a day to honor him. Ditto for Pedro, Damon and even Manny.

Right now I'll be surprised if Ortiz collects 4 hits by this time next week. I do think Ortiz needs to have a big game game tonight or he might not even play in the Yankee series between CC playing Saturday and both Hughes and Burnett will eat him alive with fastballs. As it is he's not going to play tomorrow vs. Kazmir.

I agree. I do think Francona and everyone else will give him more time just because of how he turned it around last year. Lowell needs to be the perm DH and Martinez can play DH or 1st when he is not catching. I still have little faith in are Bullpen which currently sucks

3 game win streak! Way to go! Lackey pitched great last night, it was just ground ball after ground ball after ground ball. And Bard and Papelbon shut the door.

I think I've watched the replay of Beltre's HR at least 5 or 6 times, man that ball was absolutely crushed.

Going for the sweep tonight with Matsuzaka on the mound. I think it's important that he gives us at least 6 innings tonight so we can try and save the bullpen for this weekend.

Many of the fans wanted Torre back including myself, Steinbenner didnt want him back, and low balled him, and Torre rejected it....Torre did nothing wrong, wasnt disliked....unlike Roman who quit on the team, Sox fans hated him, the Boston media killed him, and he was run out of town...samething for Manny...again people who I hang with who love the Sox, can't stand Manny....and never want to see a "Manny Day" everrrrrrr!!!

Pedro and Damon is fine, they left the Sox on their own accord......they werent run out of town....

Yeah there are still fans that dislike Nomar because he quit on the team in 2004 and that's fine. It's their right and opinion. Did I love Nomar before the 2004 season? Absolutely. Was I down on him because of what he did in 2004? Yes. Does that mean the franchise should celebrate what he did while wearing the uniform? Nope not at all. Nomar deserved it no matter how things ended. He was a great player for this team and should be honored for it. Something that happened for 4 months shouldn't overshadow what he did the previous 7 years. Same goes for Manny, which was even uglier. But he too deserves it. And should get a day to say thanks.

And who cares what the media says or does. This isn't about them. It's about the player and the fans. The media is still killing Nomar and Manny and everyone else in a Sox uniform. That will never change.

It's actually which is Ramon for his father, which is Nomar spelt backwards not Roman. Which isn't even his birth name, which is Anthony. But I'm just confused on why you would even care what that Nomar and the Red Sox did this, considering you're a Yankee fan. I mean I wouldn't care if the Yankees had a 'Player X' day.

No one was wrong about Ortiz. He is still a liability for this team. He can't run, play defense @ any position, and now he cant hit. One good game does not make up for horrible start. He is still batting .171. I also expect Lowell to face Kaz tonight
