honey suckle? Screw that! I love the smell of napalm in the morning. One time we had a hill bombed for 12 hrs with a bunch of fools wanting to trade Thigpen and keep White sitting on top. We didn't find one of them. Not one stinking ignorant body. And that smell, that gasoline smell, the whole hill...smelled like victory. You know some day this team is going to win a Super Bowl again.

Now, bring me back my 8'6 Yater Spoon you thieving basterd. :chuckle:

I basically agree with ya, except the part that he is too small framed to play WR. There have been plenty of 6' 190lb WRs who did just fine. The problem is, as I perceive it, is White thinks he is just a QB, and he is not open to the idea of changing positions. He is physically capable of playing WR, but for that to happen the mind has to be open to the idea. It ain't in his case. I'd be much more surprised of an announcement of a position change to WR, RB, anything one can think of, agreeable to both White and the coaches, than I would be to his just flat out being waived.

Are you joking? What kind of large role did we see from White in the WC even after Brown got hurt? Answer: We didn't. He had the perfect opportunity with Brown out to show he could run the WC and he didn't do it well enough for the coaches to want to stick with the same pct of WC plays after Brown. He didn't even come close to doing it well enough.

Apparently you are ignoring the FACT that the WC in Miami goes through and only through one Mr Ronnie Brown. Not one Mr Patrick White. No Brown and the Wild Cat becomes the Tame Kitty.

Somethings I think you just like to be contrary and play the role of devils advocate to keep the forum active during the slow times of the year. Maybe the Mods or Admin types get you to do this: Nudge nudge, wink wink, hey Padre, start some threads that will create controversy, argue the minority viewpoint, whatever it is, just to keep things stirred up around here till we get to training camp. :hi5::hi5: :wink2::wink2:

I think he may not be able to with stand the hits he would take at WR as well. I am not saying wave him but to trade him. Even if he would be moved to WR or RB is he better then what we have at those positions to make the team?

That's another good question. Even if White was agreeable to change to WR like some other college QBs have done, or play a slash role like Kordell Stewart did, it is not a certainty he would be successful doing so or better than what we already have there. IMO though, his size would not be the #1 concern, though one always prefers bigger and stronger. Kordell was 6'1 and about 218-220 when he played. Antwaan Randle El goes 5'10 and 185 and that has not stopped him. White being 6' and 190, would not in of itself be too small to play WR.

the Chargers have one of the best back-ups in the game with Volek. i doubt they would do anything if Rivers got hurt.

Pennington won't get traded. He was brought back because of his invaluable and unselfish mentoring of the young quarterbacks. I believe the FO resigned him only for that reason and were delighted to do so.

I think any thought of WildPat was burned last year though. He's just not big or elusive enough at the pro level. I think the focus will be whether they believe he can develop into a decent backup, with Pennington's tutelage, for Henne. If he can, then that opens up Thigpen. If not, it's either switch White to another position or move him imo.

Not interested in getting rid of Pennigton or Thigpen.

White on the other hand needs to find some other position or occupation. Not impressed.

I think a lot of fans here overrate Thigpen. He's a guy thats worth probably a 6th rounder to a few teams as a backup, thats it. We openly threw him on the market before and during the draft and no one offered much of anything. I have to think if anyone offered a 5th or better we would have sent him packing. He's a decent backup....if that, thats it. He's not the key to the season, if he's starting we are likely picking around 12 or so again....signing Pennington makes him expendable. I doubt he's really that highly sought after, the guy who played him, Gailey didn't offer anything for him so after that I'm not sure where the takers are. Even Minnesota would rather play Jackson or Rosenfels so I don't see them as an option. I like Thigpen as a couple of game starter for an injured Qb but he's not a starting caliber player and we are in deep trouble if he plays more than a few games for us. Sorry but he's way overrated by fans here.

I don't want Thigpen as a starter but I'll take him as a backup. If he was slated as our starter going into a season I would not be a happy camper.

Everything you say here is true. But if he plays lights out in preseason, and a few injuries occur, his stock will go up. Its how the NFL is and (because I agree with your thought process) is why I started this post. If he doesn't play great in PS, then whether we keep him or not doesn't really matter, he won't have value unless Henne gets hurt.

I have the opposite opinion. There are some fans here who underrate Thigpen.

In his one season, 2008, as a full time starter, on a less talented KC offense, his stats were equal to Henne in 2009.
Thigpen in 11 starts threw for 2608 yds, 18 TDs, 12 INTs and had a 76.0 QB rating. He also ran for 386 yds at 6.2 ypc and 3 TDs.
Henne in 13 starts threw for 2878 yds, 12 TDs, 14 INTs and had a 75.2 QB rating in 2009. He ran for 32 yds, at 2.0 ypc and 1 TD.

Thigpen is every bit as proven a starter in the NFL as Henne is.

There is no way in hell, I can see how resigning Penny makes Thigpen expendable. By Chad's own admission, he is to be the #3, continue to work on rehabbing and strengthening his shoulder and mentor the young QBs.

IMO, the drop in talent from Henne to Thigpen is minimal at best, and we are very lucky to have him as the backup.
