tazing was intended to take the place of tackling and having to force someone down as well.

I wish people who thought all cops are pigs and dirty and useless had to wear a flashing light on their head, so when some crazy person is running around them people just chuckle and say "nah, i don't think that person's going to do anything, no need to call the police.... but let's watch anyway"

kid got what he deserved, and it's not like he wasn't aware something like this would happen. cops surprisingly do NOT use their tasers 'just for the heck of it', especially when in front of a crowd of 40,000+ people! they are well aware of the s*** storm that happens after any public or high profile tasing, you really think they want to go through that if they didn't deem it necessary?

I'm not PC, I just enjoy a good tasing......and watching his lifeless body crumple to the ground, demands many rewinds.

He was a dumbass doing something stupid/illegal during what are now scary times .....he got shocked and carried off the field. Big deal.... it was hilarious. I'd pay big money to see that live...lol

they should make tazing universal policy at all sporting events for those jumping on the field..and they should encourage jumping on the field as well.

and its actually the safest option possible. you get 2 or 3 security guards tackling a kid, someone could get hurt and break something, but you taze them, and book, down the go, no collision, no problem. 30 seconds later, they're fine and walked off safely. saves time, promotes safety. and plus, the crowd and athletes win too.

Well another idiot fan in Philly just ran out on the field. I think there needs to be harsher penalties for this maybe a 5k fine, banishment from all sporting events and spend a week in a jail, something like that, besides of course from the obvious tasing penalty as well.

The two hypocrites on Mike & Mike are giving the other ****** attention as well. Oh, now they're saying that something ought to be done about fans going out onto the field. :pity:

    Dear Greeney & Golic,

    Few questions:

What do you expect to happen when you give one attention-whore field-trespasser attention? Why do you think the media often ignores said people? And why is Greeney such an uber-dusche?

    Sincerely,

A fan of that team you both hate so much

So...do you taze the hot naked chick running across the field?
What about the guy streaker? They do that a lot in England.
What about a fat naked chick? Do you tackle her?

    Just asking...

    A va-JJ is a weapon. :shifty:

And...why are there body cavity searches if there's no place to hide a weapon? :shifty:

Regardless...do you tackle them or taze them?

    EDIT: Seriously.

Actually, if you take the word of many police forces, the tazer was in fact supposed to be used in place of firearms in some situations. Instead of cops drawing weapons on a non-lethal-weapon-wielding attacker, they would use the tazer instead. Unfortunately, you're right in that they haven't been used in place of firearms. They same amount of perps are being shot, except now there are more people being tazed.

Personally, I don't know why rubber bullets aren't used more.

I think the thing most people are forgetting about is that tasers are NOT as safe as most think they are.

Hundreds of people have been killed by police using tasers. 334 people from 2001-2009 in the US alone, to be exact.

IMO, the police are out of control with their use of tasers, and something needs to be done about it.

And of those, police reports show 75% of the perps have been on illegal stimulants or narcotics causing the deaths....police are subduing the criminal, the fact the criminals have put illegal substances in their bodies is not of their concern.

This isn't about lethality...this is about detaining the JERK as fast as possible with proper/just force. A Taser is equal force for this STUPID act. Although, I am leaning toward BILLY-CLUB coming back in vogue. All force can lead to DEATH....clubs, rubber bullets, bean bags, tasers, etc...all can lead to death. So be it...don't commit the crime is you cant do the time in hell! Woot!

The second Philly field jumper ain't a brain surgeon

He had drugs on him when he PREMEDITATED the illegal act of jumping onto the field of play at a sporting event.

LOSERS....hahahahahahaa....keep defending them. BRILLIANT is indeed the best word here!:hi5:

That's why I think there should be a bigger fine (in the 5 to 10k range) and spend a week in jail. Then we'll see how many idiots want to 'try' and be funny. It would all stop right away.

Swat and such have started using the bean bag shotguns and rubber bullets. I would assume its probably to costly to equip every officer with these plus, lets say another bank robbery takes place with the guys who were using the armor and machine guns, you sure don't want the cops firing bean bags at them I think.
The tazer is also meant to take the place of force, and things like the night stick. So saying shootings are the same but more people are getting tased is not accurate.

I'd have to dig it up, but I read a report several years ago that said police shootings were roughly the same before and after the tazer was introduced.

Does that mean that fewer people are being beaten, and are being tazed instead? I'll buy that.

yes that is what I am saying. The way you state, rather your intention or not, is that shootings are at the same rate, on top of now more tasings. But if you look just at what the taser was supposed to replace, then I doubt there is any real way to show it has increased or decreased police brutality as a whole. Having said that I think the taser is less brutal then using a club and such.

In this instance, tackling is always the preferred method of subdual.

    That's a good question.

I'd just like to see the raw numbers on how many people are killed by police.

I was actually at the game for the second fan. The crowd started chanting "TASE HIM, TASE HIM" for about 2 minutes.

I actually blame that idiot for messing up Cole's rhythm. He goes into the 9th with a shut out and has an 0-2 count on the first batter this idiot runs on the field in the middle of his wind up and then the next pitch is a double.

Jayson Werth even started yelling at the fool as he was being dragged off the field.
