That's awesome. I don't think it'll help fill all the empty seats, but those of you who go will definitely have a nice toy.

Can anyone explain to me how this hand held thing is going to work? Will they give it at the beginning of the game and picked up at the end? If so how will they regulate it? Is it attached to the seats? I don't understand!

The amount of empty seats is overstated.

I agree. While technology is cool, what happened to the good old fan experience? Meeting new people, knowing when its 3rd down and to get up and be loud. Cheering and having a party with others that share the passion.

I think its great technology that actually should be used for web based customers that cant reach a game. I would love this added info to my gameday experience ( i'd pay for that). Alot of revenue there i believe. If I Go to a game though I wanna watch the game. I want to experience the comraderi and excitement of watching with 60,000 Phins fans not a sports enhanced ipod!

Edit: Steve Ross is now a large if not majority owner in this company . Made a presentation at the owners meeting last month and is offering 5000 units free to each ball club.

Don't like it. People can get pretty quiet when they are engrossed with an electronic gadget in there hands.

If you want o put more butts in seats, lower prices, and do something to help stem the heat (shade, fans, etc.)

HATE THE IDEA WITH A PASSION..lets come up with a plan to sabatoge the warehouse where those thingamijigs are..lol

People, put the freakin game down and scream your *** off....you can affect the outcome of the game, this thing will only hurt the performance of your team.

    I hate this shi#@.

This is an overreaction. Its never quiet in a sports bar. This will neither hurt the team or cause sustained attendance increases.

Lower prices. Tickets and parking and concession prices are to high, especially in this economy. Fix the whole parking and 3 hours to leave the lots, joy while you're at it.

Part of the attendance woes are because fans can get nearly as great an experience at home as they can at the game...for free.

Back in the day, when TV's weren't 50" or HD or Plasma, going to the games was the only way to watch a game. Not so anymore.

I don't blame teams like Miami for trying this. Personally, I've been to a **** ton of games where I wanted to see additional replays or know things that I missed from not watching the game on TV. I was at the Bucs game last year and had no clue if Ronnie Brown would return or not. Had I been watching on TV, I would've heard.

I believe there's a market for added value options at a stadium. These should not take away from the experience of a live game . why have alot of heads down in there new do dads lol. I wish they would sell the game with those ideas in mind.

I guess it all started with cutting tailgate hours, cutting beer off at halftime and playing ho let the dogs out.

My ticket rep has told me that we will get one unit per every 2 seats we have as full season ticket holders. My wife is going to love this thing, i can pretty much go ahead and bet on her pretty much owning this thing. It is also to my knoweldge that they will be handed out before each game ensuring that each unit is charged and working properly. You will also be able to track stats across the leauge as well as watch every live nfl game. Sounds cool!

I think you guys are overreacting a bit... Do you honestly think people will shell out the money for tickets, only to sit and stare at a little 6" LCD screen while there is a live football game going on in front of them?

It's going to be something most people look at ocassionally throughout the game, or use during situations like challenges, questionable calls, or huge plays. Sure, there might be a few people that bury their face in the gadget, but I just don't see people shelling out the kind of money to go to a game and not actually watch it.

IMO, its not really the idea of the dumb gadget its what has become a carnival of football games.

Lets get excited and root for our team. watch the million dollar score boards and cheer when your favorite player pops up. Become the 12th man.

If you have all these distractions you're not interacting with fellow fans and getting in the game JMO

FD, we have the worst reputation in the league amongst our peers and our own players, please tell me how this creates an atmosphere that is condusive to fans being louder and more into the game and the spirit of crowd noise?..

If were not going to move the seats closer to the field, if were not going to build a new stadium, then we must do everything we can to generate energy in that coffin of a stadium...I may be overreacting, iam just concerned this does'nt help my concerns about us helping our team with emotion, energy and crowd noise.

If they put the bars and louge areas that the stadium currently has OUT near the stands where they can see the game people would see how packed it actually is. Everytime I go to the bathroom, I get pissed at the amount of people standing around BSing while watching the game on TV

Seats absolutely need to be closer! The place can get loud as hell as it is, and the Colts and Ravens playoff games are a perfect example but if the seats were closer it would triple the echo effect...

I hear you, and I've noticed that as well. But part of that is because of the heat. As others have said, and I agree, a roof (like the one proposed a few months back) would cut down on that somewhat.

I remember the first game of the season in 08 against the Jets, people were litterally getting heat exhaustion. The EMT's got a workout that day.

I'm not sure about that. J'Ville is probably the worst in regards to attendance. I would venture to guess, much like the Marlins, that the TV ratings for Dolphins games are pretty damned good. We've covered the reasons for the spotty attendance on this site ad nauseum, but most of those reasons are legit.

Well, I do see some people saying the heat is a factor but put me a contending team on the field and even if they had heaters installed to make it hotter, and I'm willing to bet the fans show.

Me persoanlly? I love the heat. It's actually worse out on the beach but there is always warm water to cool ones self off....

Seriously i think the heat helped more in the past. Now a days we got water cooled shoulder pads and misters. Its still humid at night and if a player isnt conditioned it will show IMO

The only thing that fixes this is winning. Look what happened to places like Kansas City and Cleveland, known for their loud, crazy, passionate fans. When you're a loser, the masses lose interest. We need to win, and not just win once in a while or every other year. We need to be winners year in and year out. 12 years ago, Foxboro was empty, but now you can't get tickets.

Winning cures all, but a loser is a loser. And it doesn't matter about the fans. If the coaches and players do their job, play their part, they'll get the support they deserve. They reap what they sew out on the field for better or worse.

I only like this for the sake of checking other scores/stats as well as being able to see replays of closely called plays. Sun Life Stadium sucks when it comes to replays.

For some reason AT&T's 3G coverage also sucks inside of the stadium. I don't know why that is, but I can never get Sportacular running on my iPhone properly and up to date. Takes forever. I've NEVER HAD A 3G ISSUE ANYWHERE ELSE... but I get one every Sunday as soon as I get up to my seats.

I heard in years past, and it's prolly still true, that ATT doesn't have a presence IN the staduim. Sprint does (due to a deal with the team, and their speed rocks), but ATT's tower is not anywhere near, and is somewhat outdated, has a problem with the load. ATT being who they are, don't feel the need to do upgrades to satisfy a customer base that is there 8 days a year.
I'm an ATT customer (not by choice, they keep buying my providers...) and I've had issues at the stadium forever. Many times it's hard to even make a phone call.

I have Sprint, and I can tell you that while the service works in the stadium, it is incredibly slow. Last season, I had full bars on my phone but when I tried to check the web at halftime for fantasy scores it took several minutes just to load a single page. I gave up.

I also had several calls go directly to voicemail without my phone ringing, which I received only minutes after leaving the stadium.

This is sooo true. I can text out of the stadium, but forget about trying to do anything else with the iphone in the stadium. Last year I gave up trying to check my fantasy football while at the game, cause nothing would load.
