Damn, poor guy. No settlement can bring back his ability to walk again. And if I did that, I am pretty damn sure I'd be getting more than a 2-8 year term with a mandatory 3 year term. Felonious Assault? Are you kidding. Why not Attempted Murder?

I had to watch the vid without sound, but was that second rider fleeing from the scene before the back up cruiser entered in the back ground?

Either way, another reason to hate on the police. As good as a service they provide us, instances like this continue to give them a bad reputation. A shame really.

The 2nd biker lost control of his bike when the cops turned on their sirens and hit a curb. Don't think he was trying to run

And therein lies the debate. But in that instance, I don't even think the taser was justified. He had his gun pointed at the rider. Tell him to get off the bike and cuff him if you think you are in danger.

wow, that's terrible. This cop definitley deserves more than 11 years for this. I'm pretty sure anyone whose ever turned to look behind them on a bike does that exact same move... you've got to keep your balance, it looks NOTHING like he's trying to pull a gun. It just looks like he's turning around.
And why did the cop even have his gun out? Does he pull his gun on everyone he pulls over? serisouly, this cop is the worst kind.

That's attempted murder and a life sentence for anybody else in the U.S. I don't know what the laws in Canada are.

Mor answered this, but I can tell you that Canada does not have the Death Penalty. Not only that, but if a US Fugitive wanted for Murder flees to Canada, the Canadian Govt. will not allow extradition of said fugitive if the state they were charged in has the Death Penalty.

Not that there would be a DP in this case, but still interesting.

Damn, Ottawa Hills is like 20 mins from where I grew up.

It was always a place where cops were very likely to pull you over for going 2 miles over the speed limit.

I've heard of many people living in that area just so their children could go to those schools (and working two or more jobs to be able to do so), and would immediately move upon their graduation. I remember driving through there a few times to go to a comic shop I frequented and at least one house had signs in their yard (not quit billboard size but excessively large) denouncing the neighborhood.

Most of you know my feelings about the police. Things like this happen ALL TOO OFTEN. This is just another shining example of their despicableness.

Like rafael said, where's the attempted murder charge? Just because he has a badge, he isn't subject to the rules that apply to the rest of us? That's B.S.

Thanks for the geography lesson guys. I even said to a few people today, "did you hear about that shooting in Canada?" Shockingly nobody had heard about it. LOL.

I wonder if the cop is remorseful or defensive, trying to justify his action.
It is very hard for a squad car to catch and pull over a biker who is determined to get away. Bikes can go off road. Cars cant. The very fact that he stopped, should have discounted the fear of threat to the officers. Unless there was a prolonged chase, or they were wanted for some felony, I don't see why he even had his weapon drawn.
Are cops are so underpaid that law enforcement settles for such under qualified people like this doofus?

PS Before seeing the video, I was going to post the joke, "How can someone ride a bike without arms?", but that video was a buzzkill. This is just another reason why many Americans dread any interactions with law enforcers.
