Tip of the cap, and classy touch with the TEAM Hug for Matsui......(team prank on Matsui and Swisher about "fake" rings was funny and typical of the bond they had in that lockerroom last season, #27 officially in the books....on to #28).

Hughes was solid (even more than the final numbers) in his first outing (ump missed several strikes) had lots of movement on his pitches.

Yanks take 3 straight series and once again, 2 out of 3 vs LAA, this time. Very impressive start to season.

Cano keeps raking....and Jeter is Jeter.....Mo picks up easiest save on young season.......all in all.......congrats boys.

Yanks keep taking series (4 straight to open season).....finding the groove this quickly at the start of the season (while some bats still sleep) is fortunate and hasnt been done in awhile (1926).

SP and Bullpen are finding their own groove. Now a West Coast Trip will dictate some things to see if things stay in sync.

Then I will see them in BAL the following week.

Yanks turn a 5-4-3 (Arod to Cano to Johnson) TRIPLE PLAY vs. OAK to get out of the 6th. end up losing 4-2. Oh well....on to LAAoA for 3 game set. Perhaps a minimum 2 out of 3 once again for 6th straight to open season??????

I have played baseball for long time beyond College and up through the Minors and summerball in Carolina League.....this whole Arod / Braden issue:

    http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/braden-rodriguez-spice-up-the-afternoon.html.php

    1) I have never heard of this "unwritten" rule about not crossing or touching the Pitchers Mound at the end of an inning, or after an out, etc.
    2) Cant ever recall anyone ever doing it - talking about it - or ever seeing anyone do it

So, it must be the quietest and most-unwritten of un-written rules....that said, Braden makes it seem like a KNOWN unwritten rule and comes off as CRAZY as he holds the sub-standard AROD to and the whole "Tasting Himself" was a brilliant turn of phase.

But dang, lefty's are weird in their own right - always are/havebeen/willbe.

Very weird situation for sure which leads me, and others have as well, to question if there was something else going on that lead to Braden's comments. And while I have never heard of this unwritten rule either, I've also never seen any baseball player ever run up the mound either. Just a strange situation and it figures Arod would be in the middle of it.

Of course I really don't think Arod did himself any favors with his comments. He should have just continued to keep his mouth shut or said no comment since he comes off looking cocky and arrogant.

I think it's more of a respect thing with staying off the pitcher's mound than an unwritten rule. Maybe Braden felt like Arod was trying to bully him? Who knows. But it should be interesting to see what happens when they face either other next time.

EDIT: Looks like at least some people are siding with Braden here. Keith Hernandez spoke out about it last night during the Mets game and Tim McCarver defended Braden as well. Not that they should be the jury here but they are former big leaguers.

Here's an interesting story from McCarver:

Yeah, not defending Arod or claiming he was in the right (and clearly wouldnt, as you and I agree, we never heard of this as an unwritten rule, we still never ever saw anyone ever comtemplate doing it during a game...Pete Rose story aside), I personally would side with Braden or any Pitcher claiming thats their OFFICE as McCarver says.....but lefty's are weird for sure.:wink2:

    LOL...this is instant classic http://morganensberg.wordpress.com/2010/04/23/the-unwritten-rulebook/#more-353

I do think Braden went a little over the top with it, throwing things in his dugout. I just wish Arod would have taken the high road for once and said no comment.

    Nice post by Ensberg.

It was a great game to be at....AJ dominated and Cano is just on fire right now.

So Yanks take another series....and with the earlier sweep of TEX combined with the only dropped series only 1 out of 3 vs. ANA, it actually works out to still taking 2 out of every 3 games to start the season.

TB is just so hot right now.

15-7 April.....big come from behind win tonight to open the series vs. CHW. Jeter leads the way driving in the last 4 runs.

9-6 on the road...only 7 (6-1) home games so far....huge start out of the blocks to wrap up the 1st month of 2010.

TB & BOS both lost tonight.

Well, following Yesterday's expected DUMPER by Vazquez, Hughes came through and the Bats (even with AROD taking the day off) lit up the CWS arms to win the SERIES (2 out of 3).

3 vs BAL then 3 @BOS for the upcoming week.

Granderson's DL stint will be interesting measuring stick for the time being.

Big game tonight....Hughes stepped up and was dominant. The Yanks Bats worked hard and busted it wide open in 6th chasing Beckett. Great win to start the series.

CC vs. Buchholz game 2 of the 3 game series tomorrow.

Beckett hits Cano in Left Knee Cap in 6th (hit Jeter too with bases loaded) and Cano left the game after trying to stay in it. Going to have to ice it down, hope its not bad...but sure it will be sore.

Very surprised: According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Yankees 2B Robinson Cano (knee) has been inserted into the lineup for Saturday's afternoon game against the Red Sox. Will be DH, and Pena will be at 2B. Guess he can run the bases????

Well the rain delay hosed over CC to secure a W (1 STRIKE AWAY in the 5th when the delay happened), playing it smartly, they didnt have him come back when play was resumed, but Yanks still WIN another Series as the Bats keep exploding.

Granderson's and Johnson's DL stints, and Posada's nicks & strains, and Cano's bruises currently are not negatively impacting performance with the Bench really stepping up and playing inspired ball when given the chance.

TB lost today, so Yanks gain ground too.

The sweep is in sight with Burnett vs. Lester sunday night TV!

Actually this team is just put together really, really well. From 1-25 right now, each plays its role perfectly and the pressure they have traditionally put on the opposing Staff, and Defense is still there. They just wear folks down, and the Bats and Speed can play everything from small ball to power ball.

That really says alot about TB to have them still in 1st in the Div. But right now, its a battle of attrition, and Cashman and Girardi and coaching staff are making all the right decisions and handling the nicks and bruises masterfully right now.

Its a long season, but this approach makes it a consistent season, which is the best anyone can ask for.

Posada is expected to DH tonight....wonder if Cano plays 2B or takes the night off???

Well back-to-back losses to Tigers to open up this series....Valverde has shut the door both times.

Hughes goes tonight (2nd game of split Double Header) and need this just to set up CC vs. Verlander for split.

Bats are sleeping some and making DET arms look Cy Youngish!

on paper they had a shot to mess with the 98 team but they are floundering a bit. i think its simply temporary and they will eventually start reeling off some serious winning streaks but that 110+ type of season probably is shot now

Hughes stepped up once again last night....now its CC's turn to split the series with DET.

Floundering????? They have secured 22 wins out of 33 games played so far. That's taking 2 out of every 3 games (.667%) and it still gives them the neighborhood of 108 wins over the course of 162 season. Which is kinda of the goal of any team when it comes to winning series, etc.

That said, like other solid Yankees Teams I don't think this team looks at any records except making the playoffs, getting healthy by that time, and then adding #28 to the shelf.:hi5:

I am glad Hughes is doing well....cuz that is where he belongs in the rotation...and Joba is the set-up future closer guy....Joba needs to go back to the fastball/slider hard and nasty, and forget about the curve....hard...nasty....in the dirt....

Following the DET series, Yanks bounce right back at The Stadium and take the first two vs. TWINS.

Arod's grand on Friday, and Pettitte (with help from Tex and Sado's Bats) shuts em down on Sat to take the series. Mitre will try for sweep Sun.

Next week 2 quick games vs BOS, and TB, each at the Stadium, then first interleague @ NYM close out the full scheduled week.
