I do want you all to remember Season 5 though. This in my opinion is the most important exchage of the whole series. I can see the ending just being this same scene repeated yet again.
I can't speak for anyone else, of course, but I don't actually have a show in my head. The problem, in my mind, isn't that Lost is taking a course I don't particularly fancy; it's that Lost has suffered from terrible writing. From deus ex machinas to out of character actions, Lost literally pulled each and every cliché out of the hat. Not to mention the gaping plot and logic holes the creators crudely disguise as "being what's Lost all about". To me, it's sorely obvious that they had no clue whatsoever as to where this whole thing was headed and quite simply ran out of ideas.
I disagree with both statements. #1. They had monsters, survived a plane crash, and saw dead people. I would have been excited for those turn of events. They are interesting and I was interested. I am fully fine with the Dharma explanation. I thought they did a good job. I do not really care about the nuts and bolts of Dharma. I think it would have been nice to have a little more explanation of the island from Dharma. I am fine with the Others. Once they turned out to be real people, their story is fine to me. #2. I do not think they owe us anything. I did want to know who Adam and Eve were and I did want to know the whispers. I do not know why it means that too you. It is a different form of story telling than a lot of people are accustomed to. Some Japanese movies do not have ending. Lost has kept me entertained for 6 seasons now. They did not Heroes it up and get super crappy and boring. Myself I do have questions I wish they answered. For instance I really want to know the back story of the Island. That is why the mother episode was so disappointing to me. I would really love to know what powers the island has or what it does. I also really want to know why Ben was so obsessed with having babies survive on the island and why babies conceived there die.
I find that hard to believe. Unless you do not have an imagination and can not tell me what direction you wish the show went. I think it is obvious that they do know where the entire thing is going. To me it looks more like they wanted to tell a 4 year story, however they had to tell it in 6. That they really didn't want any answers until the final season and that just made too many questions.
It's not that hard to believe. I really don't dwell into "what will happen next" or "what should happen next" when watching TV or reading a book. I'm perfectly fine to have the authors figure that out. I'm just along for the ride. Whether or not I enjoy it, is a different question alltogether. But no, I've never really given much thought to where I wished the show was headed and it's not due to a lack of imagination. They obviously know where they are going with season 6 right now but I don't buy for a second they knew when writing season 1. I'll gladly explain further later on or tomorrow but right now, I have a beer to catch
Hey to each this own, I respect your opinions, it's funny the stuff that doesn't matter to me, matters to you and vice versa. It makes for interesting conversation. I just didn't like the changes they made and did find the time travel stuff to be pretty boring for the most part, ditto for the first half of Season 6 until Smokey took out everyone in the Temple, then the season got a little better for me. Still not a fan of the sideways stuff though, it's kind of boring and just plain weird. I agree with you about Ben and the baby thing, that should be explained. And really the island's history since it has been the focus of every episode and without it there would be no series. Why is it such a special place, why does it give people powers etc. How can Jacob and MIB be able to live for hundreds of years and never age (ditto for Richard). That's stuff that should be answered for sure.
If the writers introduced something to the audience, it is never too much to ask them to deliver answers back. They created it, they end it. I hope there are no open endings like 'The Sopranos'
Another thing I'm kind of upset about is the death of Charles Widmore. He was actually a pretty interesting character yet we learned nothing about him really. Yes he was on the island before he was ordered to leave (by who and why), and he was also Daniel's dad (what was his relationship with Daniel's mother and where the heck is she this season?). I feel like they missed the boat not exploring his character more. Also I hope we learn what happened to Claire during Season 5, especially why she left Aaron behind. The writers HAVE to at least answer this for us. And what's she been up to last episode since she wasn't with Flocke at all. I wonder if he sent her to do something for him.
I agree but come on you know there won't be a clear cut ending and a lot of it will be left for us to decide (much like The Sopranos ending). And I agree that if the writers introduce us to something, we as the audience deserve to get some answers back. Without us the writers wouldn't have a show.
About a 30 second Sneak peek for "The End".... http://www.sl-lost.com/2010/05/19/lost-series-finale-sneak-peek-2/ Spoiler If it wasnt Jack and Crew or MIB who helped Desmond out who the hell was it? Richard??
Here is one thing i don't get. How could it be flash sideways? The island is in 2010. Its up to date, but the "flash sideways" is back in 2004, where lost started
I think its just some sort of correction in the timeline by maybe MIB to show what would've "happened" if Jacob had never been involved maybe I dunno and its starts where all their lives intersected, on the plane? Im sure we will see that one. Im sure both timelines will meet as probably the resolution and end of the show or something.
I'm sure if you went back and watched Seasons 1 through 6 without a year-long hiatus between each season, you'd really be able to poke some gigantic holes into the entire plot. There have been so many 20 to 30 second scenes throughout this series that seemed really interesting (and important) at the time, but have since been swept right under the rug. Off the top of my head, I couldn't name a specific scene (its been years since I've watched, say, Season 2), but those instances certainly exist. Its frustrating.
Oh absolutely. If someone was to watch the whole series straight through, you could pick up tons of plot holes and inconsistent and dropped storylines as well (24 is also pretty guilty in that department too). That's why a few weeks ago when there was a debate about if Lost was the greatest show ever, I argued against it because of those very points, not even factoring in the decline of quality episodes either. There have been a lot of filler episodes throughout Lost too. That's why Lost couldn't touch a show like The Wire or even a lesser known show like The Shield, that had excellent writing in terms of character development and storylines from the first episode to the last (that's a matter of opinion I don't want this to turn into a which show(s) is/are better discussion). Also The Sopranos, to a lesser degree, since Season 6 Part 1 & 2 was pretty bad in terms of quality compared to the earlier seasons and was probably 10 episodes too long, which hurt the overall quality of the show as a whole. As soon as Season 6 comes out on DVD, I plan on watching the whole series again straight through to see if my opinion on the show, especially the last 2 seasons changes at all. It will be very interesting to see how well the earlier seasons will hold up since I haven't seen Season 1-3 in 3 years and haven't seen Season 4 or 5 since they were originally aired.
I still remember Juliet telling Saywer that "It worked." right before she died. That has to be how the show ends. It ends with the sideways show being real life. The bomb destroys the island and time is corrected to the sideways show. Desmond is there to remind them what "Happened" to them all. Again...just my opinion.
Interesting theory, makes sense since there has to be a way that ties the sideways world in with the island world.
sorry to derail, but wanted to throw out that I also loved the Shield right up until Spoiler the police captain was force to give oral to that criminal and then I never watched it again but back to Lost, I too plan to start watching all the seasons again. I would totally buy a Lostipedia book or something like that that showed all the little things that were hidden in the episodes.
You're right Ultra...I forgot about that...I can't see a cop doing that. I think I would rather get shot first. You only die once. Going out like a man is important.
It fit his character though since he was never really a cop, something Vic would rip him about numerous times, and was always a little wimpy. If Vic, Shane, Lem or Ronnie were to be in that situation it would have went down much differently. Ultra, I'd keep watching if I were you, the show was just as good before that scene.
with the white flash that happened with the bomb I'm kinda with you on this. I think it will be maybe desmond going down into the light and reseting the timeline. And about juliette I think she is davids mother in the alt. Timeline.
I know on Aug 23 they are releasing the complete series with an lost "bible" included for around 190 or something. It's close to my birthday so I am hoping it's something I get.
True. I just hate open-ended finales. We the audience didn't produce the show, why leave it to us to form an opinion on how it ended?
I know that might be a possible ending but to me, that would be a total ****ing cop-out. How similar would that be to a Newhart or Roseanne finale? (i.e. dream or 'it never happened this way')
So just because your parents are killed or you get caught stealing, then that means the rest of your life is going to suck? Point is that Jacob told them their lives were crap at the time of the crash. Why did he visit Kate and Sawyer so early on in their lives? He told them to do the right thing (in effect) when he saw them as children. What good did that do? ALmost seems like he punished them for not listening to him.
my vague miniprediction for the end... it's going to be like Fringe. the two worlds colliding and only one will survive.
When the plane crashed, Sawyer was an obsessed man with antisocial personality tendencies Kate was on the run from the law for murder. Those seem like crap lives to me.
Before each season has started I have gone back and watched the entire series from the beginning. Each time I've picked up on some little tidbit I missed earlier. I've DVR this season and will probably start it up again in a few weeks to pick up on even more
You make good points. I'm still wondering why he visited Sawyer and Kate when they were little but visited Jack after he was rescued from the island. I'm also wondering why Richard visited young Locke too. I wonder if Jacob was somehow able to see the future with these characters.
Well there is a pretty good chance if your parents are killed you will be messed up the rest of your life. Also there were many names on the list. It could just be they had the right potential
Christ some people whine too much.. OK you dont like the show and you watch because you feel that you just have to now.Thats fine, Everyone is entitled to their opinions afterall But do you have to constantly cry about it? Sorry if I came off as harsh but hearing the same things over and over and over again annoys me.
I don't now, perhaps I'm overanalyzing what he said...naaaaaaaaa... He did cross Kate's name off the list because she "became" a mother. Speaking of the list... never understood the order by which the names were written.
Considering every finale has been a mind****, I think the series finale will continue the trend and we'll be talking for longer than a few days.
Good question, it could be be followed everyone who life was going out of control. He saw Sawyer when his parents were killed. He probably knew that Sawyer most likely was not going to have a good life, and when he saw Kate, she was shoplifting, he maybe thought if she shoplifting at a young age, maybe she will make a career of it, or something like that, idk, but good question
