Mods, have no fear. Adam and I have PMed, and this thread will not degenerate into another argument. It's for DIO's fans to pay tribute to the man.

Feel free to post vids of his songs, lyrics that touched you, anything...

I've been reading the words of his colleagues. I call them that because he had no peers.

    **********

"Two days have passed and I still cannot come to grips with the tragic passing of Ronnie James Dio. My heart is sad once again. I have always considered Ronnie as a God, a hero, a pioneer, a legend, and one of the nicest people I have ever met.” ~ John Oliva, SAVATAGE

    **********

“With EDGUY we have had the chance to share the stage with Ronnie on several occasions and so I've been given the opportunity to meet him about ten years ago. He was a very nice person with a tremendous charisma who made you feel very appreciated in his environment.” ~ Tobas Sammet, EDGUY

    **********

"I just wanted to write a note about Ronnie James Dio and how much I will miss him. Ronnie was the most genuine person I've ever met in the music industry. I think we've all had run-ins with our childhood heroes, and sometimes it can be a disappointing experience. This was definitely not the case with Ronnie. He was a wise, kind, and special person, and a dear friend that will be greatly missed.” ~ Jon Schaffer, ICED EARTH

    **********

"I was blessed to share some music with him, but mostly, I am thankful his friendship. Ronnie was a good-hearted, caring man. He brought so much happiness through his music.” ~ Doug Aldrich, DIO, WHITESNAKE

    **********

"I'm gonna miss him in ways I've never missed anyone else. But thank God, I'll always have his body of work — all that wonderful music — to fall back on. Memories and music. I'm so privileged to have known, much less worked, with him. And I honestly believe the world is a better place for all he achieved, for all the joy he brought so many people — myself included.” ~ Jeff Pilson, DOKKEN

    **********

"Ronnie was a big inspiration, influence and dear friend of mine. He was a true gentleman and kind hearted individual. He always would go out of his way to make you feel welcome and important. Without a doubt he was one of the best, top notch and a class act. I will truly miss him." ~ Joey Belladonna, ANTHRAX

    **********

"On the few occasions I met Ronnie, he was an absolute gentleman, hero and superstar and an example to us all.” Blaze Bayley, BLAZE

    **********

"His talent speaks for itself, but his kindness to his fans and commitment to his art was exceptional. This man, with such an amazing and uncanny voice that had lasted for his entirety, has taught me a few things about how to be selfless, yet frank and unapologetic about life as a public figure and artist. As I have witnessed, Ronnie, no matter how tired, would greet every fan with true sincerity and complete attention, never belittling them, nor seeming to show any trace of being impatient with the commitment that comes with being a star.” Dave Meniketti, Y&T

    **********

"From day one when I met Ronnie, he was so genuine; humble and the sweetest person in the world. Since day one until two weeks ago when I saw him. Genuine Ronnie first and foremost: 'How's the children? How's the family? How's the health?'

That's one thing about Ronnie — it's never about the music, never about the business, just being a person, a human being. Just truly concerned with how the family was and our health.” ~ Chuck Billy, TESTAMENT

    **********

"I will always remember Ronnie not only for his soaring voice and his medievel lyrics and great visual imagery, but for his great spirit and honest persona. Ronnie was not afraid to tell it like it is, but he was a true gentleman and had great class.” ~ Neil Turbin, ex-ANTHRAX

    **********

"With the sad passing of my friend and colleague, the world has lost a great man. Not only was he a unique singer, musician and writer, he was a very special human being.” ~ Bob Daisley, DIO, OZZY OSBOURNE, RAINBOW

    **********

This one really got to me. From a man who can be considered every bit as much of a legend as Ronnie was...an open letter from Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan:

    "My dear friend Ronnie,

Departed but not gone. Resting peacefully (for a while) but never forgotten. I've had a sackful of mail since your passing; a sharing of grief and sorrow. We all remember your huge voice, of course — my ears are still ringing: Your wicked humour and sense of decency: The utter professionalism and personality that inspired so much respect from your friends in music.

The list goes on but the quality that stands out above all others is your enduring generosity. The one thing that we all treasure, the gift you gave us was your kindness. We all agree you were the kindest man we ever knew.

    "Catch up later, mate."

You'd like it if you liked Korn's "Antother Brick In The Wall", which was enormous poop, IMO.

There are certain songs by certain artists that are just untouchable.

I give it a solid Meh. It wasn't one of the best covers I've ever heard, but it was far from the worst. So, Meh!

Brother Pagan I started listening to Rainbow with Joe Lynn Turner. Can you recommend some Rainbow cd's with Ronnie on vocals sir.:wink2: Also bro if you could rank Dio's solo career cd's. I wanted to see what you thought.

as far as the cover of holy diver is concerned i don't like the additional half steps in between the main riff.. other than that it's original and not just a straight up copy of the song, which i appreciate.

the middle section is odd, though. but the vocals are okay, which is odd for me because i usually hate singing after a while.

    No problem bro...

With Rainbow, I would HIGHLY suggest getting "Rainbow Rising", "Long Live Rock & Roll", and "On Stage".

Of course, all three albums he did with Sabbath, "Heaven & Hell", "The Mob Rules" and "Dehumanizer", as well as "Live Evil".

And as far as ranking his solo albums, this is tricky cause it all boils down to taste, but for me it would be (not including live albums):

    1. The Last In Line
    2. Killing The Dragon
    3. Magica
    4. Holy Diver
    5. Master of The Moon
    6. Sacred Heart
    7. Dream Evil
    8. Angry Machines
    9. Lock Up The Wolves
    10. Strange Highways

Anything he did is gold though.

    More love for Ronnie:

    **********

"It was really sad; all the band knew him, meeting backstage on many ocasions, some of our crew worked with him on his solo stuff and HEAVEN & HELL as well, also hanging out in Brazil, which he visited many times and where he is loved, not only because of his magical music but also because he was one of the sweetest persons in the world, anybody that ever met him can tell you that." ~ Andreas Kisser, SEPULTURA

    **********

"Getting to play with Ronnie is what launched my whole career. I wouldn't be in ALICE COOPER if it hadn't have been for Ronnie James Dio. He gave me my break.

He was one of the nicest and sweetest guys you could imagine," Garric said. "I felt at home as soon as I walked into the rehearsal room and played with Ronnie. It just felt natural and comfortable. He was just a pleasure to be around." ~ Chuck Garric, ALICE COOPER

[IMG] The only live Dio album I have, and one of his best, IMO. A 2-cd set with not one bad song on it. He always gave his all onstage, no sloppy vocals. Ever. :punk:

I saw Dio live once in like 1986, and it was truly a life changing experience. It was one of, if not the best concerts I've ever seen. It didn't hurt that Savatage / Megadeth opened that night, but Dio was without question the most impressive. A truly incredible night, and one I'll never forget! Thanks for the memories Ronnie!! RIP...
