Was thinking about the Alt timeline and something popped into my head. All of the Losties lives pretty much parallel their old lives in the scenes, at least their backstory, with changes in how their backstory created the same results, except Jack. He has David, and since their is no new life created in any of the others story I was wondering if David could perhaps be something or someone special, like MIB or maybe Jacob. Depending on what or who created the timeline. Or maybe David is a reward from Jacob for choosing to be the protector. Just a thought.

Well it always intrigued me that most of the Losties had very low numbers on that cave list. You make a list, you start with number one. If we assume that all the people on the list were people he visited, then is it also fair to assume that he visited them first? Is he going further and further back in time to look for answers? Probably stupid questions that will never be answered.

I pulled the first quote from page 9 and the 2nd quote from page 11 in this thread. It doesn't appear that the numbers have anything to do with when Jacob visited the castaways. Especially since Jack was visited last by Jacob but listed at 23, yet Jin/Sun were further down on the list at 42. Also Locke is before Sawyer and Kate when Jacob visited Locke after he saw S & K, since they were little kids. It also doesn't seen to be a pattern on when they were born or died/will die.

I honestly think that the main castaways were given the 'numbers' next to their name to give another nod to the whole number storyline for us Lost nerds, other than that there's no real meaning behind it, that I can see or make sense of. I guess we have to assume Jacob can see the future or that he knew the current castaways were his last hope and just wrote all of the former and current candidates on the list and numbered them randomly. Like you said I doubt we'll ever learn why they were numbered the way they were. I don't think that it's even important to the show but I guess it is something that could annoy people since they keep going back to the numbers with no explaination.

I also wonder why none of them remember seeing Jacob on the main land.

The numbers next top their names was shown in the light house. It represents the coordinates Jacob had to turn the lighthouse mirrors to in order to watch them. Jack saw his house when Hurley was turning it to 23. Not theory, fact! I'd pull up a screen shot, but I'm at work and most sites are filtered.

If this is the case, then why was Dharma fascinated with the same numbers? Desmond spent years inputing them into a computer and they were also etched into the side of the hatch when Locke and Boone first uncovered it.

It just seems weird that Jacob's lighthouse was the sole purpose of the numbers when they've been referenced in a variety of situations throughout the show.

    understood...

When Flocke said Jacob always had a thing for numbers, guess that was a way of throwing us off the tracks...

And maybe the six numbers being everywhere meant nothing other than a way of Jacob (or anyone else) to remember them.

No you're right but I think Paul13 was trying to understand if there was any special meaning behind the numbers. Which there doesn't appear to be any.

Not only that but those numbers keep popping up throughout the series (Hurley's winning lotto numbers, the numbers were Hurley's mileage on his car, Jack was sitting in row 23 on the plane, etc etc). The numbers just seen to be totally random with no real meaning that the writers keep going back to to try and be cute and get us all worked up about them.

This is interesting, apparently there are going to be extras on the Lost Season 6 DVD that explain some unanswered questions.

    http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/05/20/lost-dvd-extras/

While I'm glad we're going to find out more about Lost, I would have liked to actually learn about those mysteries while watching the real show instead of watching a DVD extra or reading it in a book (which I'm sure will be out soon enough about the series). But at least we're getting something, right?

On the DVDs of either season 1 or season 2 there is extras about how everyone's lives are connected ala 6 degress of separation. I think the numbers are another example of that. I also think its something for viewers to get worked up about. But I don't think we're going to get any more answers on them then we have.

    1. They were the lighthouse coordinates for Jacob.
    2. They were the serial number on the darma hatch.
    3. Darma picked the serial numbers as the code to enter into the computer. Makes sense.
    4. Hurley wins the lottery after hearing a presumable schizphrenic patient at Santa Rosa mimble them all day long.
    5. That patient overheard them one night while listening to "spy chatter".

Other then connecting #1 and #2 of my points, I think thy're pretty self explanitory. ;Again, examples of how everyone's connected in one way or another. Personally, I'd rather other things explained like the issue with pregnate women or why people heal quickly on the island, rather then the connection between 1 and 2.

One thing i realized. Jacob had blond hair and Man in Black had black, they had this for a reason, Blond= White=Good, Black=Bad=Evil... Now Jack has dark hair, which means Sawyer should have gotten the job

right she is...but it's not a new life...she was pregnant on the islan as well, so it's just a continuation of the normal timeline I'd say.

everyone in the sideways version is back the way they were supposed to get on the plane the second time they went back to the island.farraday's mom said it was very important they "all" went back..well now they can all go back the right way.claire is still pregnant, charlie is still alive, lock is back in his wheelchair.does anyone think this was the failsafe whitmoore was talking about? i thought the failsafe would be throwing dez into the cave to jumpstart the light if adam succeeds but by going back the right way it should revert everything back to normal no?

The more I think about it, the more I like it. I have two nagging questions which are bugging me:

What, if anything, did detonating Jughead do? And who was the figure crouching in the rock formation by the "plug" Jack had to reinsert? Jacob and MiB's mom?

The question you have,,,it reconciled Jack back to where he needed to be and the other one I think you are right. I have to say I think this is the best finale of a show I have ever seen. Its open to interpretation but not in a huge fashion. The point they made I think is something that stories have talked about since the begining of story telling, redemption. The story took alot of misteps but going back to the pilot and what Jacks role was, it all fits perfectly.

it was definitely emotional, i loved how they wrapped it up with how with all the **** that happened on the island/trying to get off/get back/whatever... those were the important times for our characters, they all found something they never found in the real world in each other...

lot to talk about, lot to think about, but i can say im satisfied with how they ended it...
