GM of the Year Award (OVERALL WINNER)

Only teams that submitted a final roster are eligible for the "GM of the Year" award. For the GM of the Year Award, you are to post your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place choices. The voting for this is on a point-based scale where 1st place gives a team 3 points, 2nd place gives a team 2 points, and 3rd place gives a team 1 point.

The following teams are eligible for the GM of the Year award, which is based on the GM that did the overall best job with his team (through trades, draft, and free agency):

GM of the Year Award Nominees
    -Chicago Bears (Section 126)
    -New York Jets (JMHPhin)
    -Indianapolis Colts (Boik14)

The winners of each category will receive a banner made by myself. The overall winner will receive a sig also made by myself. This is simply a way to give people trophies and I figure you guys would enjoy something of the sort. It never hurts to polish my Photoshop skills either.

I don't know if I have mentioned this yet, but thanks to everyone to making this another successful GM League. I may irk some of you guys to get things turned in as soon as possible, but I don't mean any harm from it. Thanks again and hopefully we'll see you again next year.

GM Big E - Rams 3) Love this one for St. Louis. Getting rid of the injury prone Jackson for a nearly as good back + a starting TE and a WR who can contribute.
Stephen Jackson ($5,500,00.00) for Bears RB Matt Forte($385,000.00), TE Greg Olsen ($460,000.00), and WR Johnny Knox ($310,000.00)

GM Duss - Detroit 2) Love this one for Detroit. Wr is in my opinion a luxury position and getting a high pick + 2 meat and potatoes front 7 defenders who are above average as starters is a solid deal.

Let me preface this by saying that it's virtually impossible to include everyone in these votes, and if I didn't vote for you it's not personal and quite possibly inadvertent. Honestly I thought the entire league was better from this year compared to last year, and that's a kudos to all of you.

I also think that GIK deserves a special shoutout for putting this thing together ... it's a lot of work and sometimes a challenge but he really has done great keeping this thing together.

Now, enough with the pleasantries ... let's move right to the votes.

GM of the Year - B. Sebo (San Francisco 49ers) / Duss (Detroit Lions) / Sports 24/7 (Pittsburg Steelers)

Team on the Rise - Atlanta Falcons (Stitches)

Team Built for Now - New England Patriots (GIK)

Best in Draft - Alen1 (Seattle Seahawks)

Free Agent Steal of the Year - Eric Barton, Detroit Lions (Duss)

Draft Steal of the Year - Tyson Alualu, Baltimore Ravens (TractorTraylor)

Trade of the Year - Browns send #7 overall pick, Kameron Wimbley, Corey Williams, and 5th round pick # 157 to Lions for Calvin Johnson, Sammie Lee Hill, Deandre Levy, and 4th rounder #98. (Fin-Omenal & Duss)

I definitely agree with that. There were probably at least 5 teams I could have put in most of those categories.

Also agree with your point on Griddles. He deserves quite a bit of props for another excellent year of heading up this thing.

First let me say thanks to master GIK once again for a stellar job in putting up with all of us. We couldn't do it without him. Another great year, lots of fun. The trading aspect is really second to none. I wasn't involved in the draft as I have been the last two years from a research standpoint. I was really late getting started there. Damn work... anyway. Most of you did a stellar job and this is always a tough decision. Always a bit disappointed by some of your "writeups," in that some of you didn't outline your draft or your free agency class and I obviously couldn't vote for you and that's a shame. I did find this an easier process to start at the bottom with the nominations (rookie GM of the year) and work my way to the top (GM of the year).Anyway, the envelopes are in... the counting has been done and the nominations are...

    GM of the Year
who put it all together... was solid on trades, free agency, put forth the effort, draft...
    1. Fin-Omenal, Cleveland Browns - took the Browns out of the outhouse and into the penthouse... maybe, certainly on the elevator.
    2. Tractor Traylor, Baltimore Ravens - solid stuff
    3. Skull Destroyer, Washington Redskins only reason he's not higher is because he apparently only made one trade.

honorable mention, Vengeful Odin. Certainly put in a lot of time and effort into everything he did. IMO, the missing ingredient were the trades. He made plenty of them of course, but I think he could have done better than what he did, specifically the three players and two draft picks he gave up for Ernie Sims and Kevin Smith.

    Team on the Rise
    1. Cleveland Browns, Fin-Omenal - hard to argue with what he did with what he had. An amazing job. Can't consider them in the next category however because of Mark Sanchez. Jury is still out on him and whether or not he'll be successful in the NFL.
    2. Washington Redskins, Skull Destroyer (see below)
    3. Tampa Bay Bucs, Vengeful Odin (see below)

    Team Built for Now
this is based strictly on the rosters.
    1. Baltimore Ravens, Tractor Traylor solid stuff... not overpowering, but the foundation was already there. I think TT kind of flew under the radar in many respects. Time is now for the Ravens. Liked what he did at WR and any defense that has Ray Lewis and Ed Reed is going to be good. Add James Harrison and Tamba Hail at OLB's, could be interesting.
    2. New Orleans Saints, Saint Greg hard to say that the defending SB champs aren't built for now. Greg didn't do much with the roster... he didn't need to.
    3. Indianapolis Cots, Boik14 - any team with Peyton Manning has a chance. I didn't like a lot of the moves that Boik did and that's just an opinion. But switching to a 34 defense could prove interesting. Liked some of what he did on that side of the ball. Offensively, different matter, o line got a lot younger, but again, it's Peyton friggin Manning. Good thing he didn't trade him away... :wink2:

    Best in Trades
to me, this is about winning your trades more than you lost. Some of you traded some big names, but it's not just trading the big names, it's getting the full value in return. But just as important, trading the smaller names and getting more than you should in return.
    1. GridIronKing34, New England - I know, it's hard to give the Pats anything... and I struggled with this, but GIK always does a solid job in trades, is very fair across the board, even though I don't think we actually consummated a deal this year... :shifty: He did win a lot more than he lost in the trades that he made. And to me, that makes him the #1 choice.
    2. Biggtyme13, Tennessee Titans - guy traded more first round picks than anyone, that amounts for something... he ended up with three firsts, which I was certainly jealous of.
    3. Sports 24/7, Pittsburgh Steelers - The Santonio Holmes trade looks better and better (he netted Whitworth and a 4th round pick). I do think he gave up an aweful lot to get Dwight Freeney. But I have to hand it to him. He wasn't sticking with the status quo and I'm sure he had a blast turning over this roster. As a self proclaimed trade master, I can appreciate that...

    Best in Free Agency
    1. Skull Destroyer, Washington Redskins
    2. Vengeful Odin, Tampa Bay
    3. GridIronKing/Schisno, New England

    Best in Draft
    1. Skull Destroyer, Washington Redskins... getting Bradford at 4, then Anthony Davis in the 2nd round then Veldheer in the 4th round was very solid indeed... franchise quarterback and two bookend tackles.
    2. Vengeful Odin, Tampa Bay Bucs
    3. JMHPhin, New York Jets... for not having a pick until the 72nd selection, he did pretty decent with his draft class.

    1. Alen1, $300,000 QB Charlie Whitehurst - not sure how he did this, I reckon Alen poisoned us all for 48 hours so we didn't notice that Whitehurst was plucked for the league minimum. I have nobody to blame but myself as I was bidding $3m on Marc Bulger before this acquisition... not just the free agent steal this year, but in the three years i've been playing...even though Alen didn't post his free agent class, I didn't forget this...
    2. JMHPhin, $500,000 LB Clint Ingram
    3. Section 126, $300,000 RB Ryan Moats

    Draft Steal of the Year
    1. Buffalo Bills, Silverphin and dukane5 with the selection of RB Ryan Matthews with the 2.49 pick.
    2. Tampa Bay, Vengeful Odin, selecting DE/LB Koa Misi at 3.79
    3. NY Jets, JMPhin, selecting DT Torell Troup at 4.124

    Trade of the Year
Note, I base this on the complexity of the trade, not whether or not one side dominated in the negotiation. As GIK pointed out, the BIGGEST trade.

    1. Jacksonville trades RB Maurice Jones-Drew (4,100,000), CB Rashean Mathis (3,450,000), WR Mike Thomas (310,000) and DE Derrick Harvey (802,500) to Houston for RB Steve Slaton (385,000), DT Amobi Okoye (630,000), DE Connor Barwin (310,000), CB Jacques Reeves (2,500,000), a 1st round pick (#20) and a 6th round pick (#188).

    2. Browns send #7 overall pick, Kameron Wimbley, Corey Williams, and 5th round pick # 157 to Lions for Calvin Johnson, Sammie Lee Hill, Deandre Levy, and 4th rounder #98.

    3. KC trades:
    LT Branden Albert $493,750
    2nd (4)36
    3rd (4)69

    Colts deal:
    WR Reggie Wayne $4,220,000
    LT Tony Ugoh $530,000
    4th (31)
    7th (31)

    Most Improved GM
    1. Vengeful Odin - not that he did poor job last year, but going from a co gm to an sole gm, thought he did very well...

In closing, enjoyed every moment once again. The late nights discussing deals on AIM or the PMs here. Fairly certain I negotiated with all of you at one point or another. I didn't meet my goal of making a trade with each and everyone of you, but damn if I didn't try. :hi5:

    GM of the Year Award:

    1. Cleveland Browns (Fin-Omenal)
I feel that if you can turn a team like the Browns in a powerhouse, you must have done something right. Mark Sanchez should be able to play the role of "more than good enough" with Ryan Grant, Brandon Marshall, Calvin Johnson, and Antonio Gates. Danny Amendola will be able to play the "Wes Welker" role in their offense. Scary thing is, it's not like their defense is lacking.

    2. San Francisco 49ers (B.Sebo)
I really like the 49ers defense and the tweaks they did on offense. I like the addition of Greg Camarillo and Golden Tate, those two should really help Michael Crabtree. I didn't like the idea of getting rid of Vernon Davis, but Tony Scheffler is a great replacement. The Patrick Willis & Bart Scott combination returns from last year (I had signed Scott for big money last year to pair with Willis) which is something I also like.

    3. Buffalo Bills (dukane5/Silverphin)
The last spot to fill was a tough one, but I decided that I really liked what the Buffalo Bills did with their roster. They brought in a leader at quarterback along with someone to develop along the way. I think they made a lot of solid moves with their trades, free agents, and draft. Definitely a great job by two first-year GMs.

    "Best Of" Award Categories

Team on the Rise: Seattle Seahawks
I really liked what alen did with the roster and while it may not look like as much today, I think a lot of his selections will turn out to be very good players.

Team Built for Now: Baltimore Ravens
TT made some great pick ups, trades, and free agent selections. I love Anquan Boldin + Dwayne Bowe and I feel that Ray Rice and LenDale White is a great combo backfield. He definitely improved a very good team.

    Best in Trades: Cleveland Browns
It's pretty easy for me to say this, but when you turn the Browns into a powerhouse... you did something right. And I think that Fin-O's forte this year was his trading. It's a shame we couldn't work out the Randy Moss + Wes Welker for Calvin Johnson + Danny Amendola + Ted Ginn trade.. or whatever it was.

Best in Free Agency: Jacksonville Jaguars
I really liked the free agents that Jacksonville picked up. Chester Taylor and Sean Jones in particular. I think they signed a lot of quality free agents, thus why I chose them.

Best in Draft: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
VO had a great draft because he seemed to draft more value than anything else. Obviously I love Eric Berry, I felt that he was the 2nd best player in the draft behind Suh. I loved the Misi pick in the 3rd and while I feel that he reached a tad on Graham, overall it was a great draft.

Free Agent Steal of the Year: Denver Broncos, Adewale Ogunleye
Ogunleye can still play at a high quality level... and for the Broncos to net him for only $300K, which is league minimum, is robbery. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

Draft Steal of the Year: Buffalo Bills, Ryan Matthews
Ryan Matthews went #12 overall in the NFL and he was a guy that was on the Patriots board at #18 believe it or not. For the Bills to grab him in the middle of the 2nd round is a complete steal.

    Trade of the Year:
    Jacksonville sends:
    -RB Maurice Jones-Drew
    -CB Rashean Mathis
    -WR Mike Thomas
    -DE Derrick Harvey

    Houston sends:
    -RB Steve Slaton
    -DT Amobi Okoye
    -DE Connor Barwin
    -CB Jacques Reeves
    -1st round pick (#20)
    -6th round pick (#188)

This is simply a big trade. It involves a lot of very good players and I don't think either team "lost" and if one did... it isn't by much. This would be your definition of blockbuster.

    Most Improved GM: Big E
Big E made some huge strides this year. I think he made a lot of good moves this past season, especially compared to last year. I would say "well now he doesn't have lucky whispering in his ear," but Vengeful Odin did quite alright with that.

Rookie GM of the Year: Section126
Section126 had a tough job of taking over a team midway through the season. He was able to easily bounce into the game and made some great moves. He has my vote without question for the rookie GM of the year. However, I felt that all of our rookie GMs did a great job for their first season.
