I hope it's not too soon to start a
Team Captains thread. Just curious to read your views on the matter. Also, it'd be nice to check in with our thoughts throughout this pre-season. Projections/Observations/Hopes/Nominations?

    Our Captains are currently:

    (Offense)
    • Chad Pennington
    (Defense)
    • Jason Ferguson
    (Special Teams)
    weekly selection

    My contentions:

(Offense) - Chad will most likely not see the field. Don't get me wrong, I love Penny and don't mind a leader-by-example leader one bit. However, would it be more preferable to have a captain who will be on the field in the offensive huddle than the sidelines? Perhaps more than one captain (noticed other teams have multiples)? I pray Henne steps up during this pre-TC/pre-season and becomes more of a voice in what is now his 2010 offense. It would speak volumes if Henne could earn that patch this preseason. He has a lot to prove, but that in and of itself would tell me all I would need to know about the kid.

Normally I wouldn't have an issue with multiples on offense, but in this case both would be QBs, and we don't need two drum majors keeping different times. And again, I have no problem with Penny keeping his patch.

(Defense) - NOT Jason Ferguson. Half a season? No thanks. Kinda feels like it has been a long time coming for Yeremiah Bell. Anyway, let's hope Dansby rallies the troops like #54 used to. He was a captain in Arizona so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the signal-caller (no not #52) also wore a "C". While I don't expect any of the rookies to earn a "C", I just can't find myself ruling out the fact that something like 5 out of the 7 were captains in college. And wow, despite the fact that we lack old guns to choose from in this department, it's really nice to know that we're stacked with young talent on defense.

Ricky because he leads by example on the field. I think Chad Henne should be a captain honestly. He needs to be the biggest leader on the team and theres no better time to start. I also like dansby along with bell or will allen.

Well Ferg won't be there the first 8 weeks, so I wonder. By the way, I was going to start a thread like this! You beat me.

Offense: Ricky Williams! He deserves it, I can't believe he hasn't been TC yet. I think he would welcome it now. He's been with us since 2002, the only one left from the Wannstedt years. It's been a loooong, interesting road for him[and us who Fins fans who've followed him since 02!]. Pennington-He won't be the starter, but that doesn't matter. He has plenty of respect on the team and Henne would prob want Pennington as captain also.

Dansby and Bell I'd go with for defense. Maybe Starks. http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/05/23/1644634/dansby-already-earning-praise.html -That could sway people to Dansby.

I think there's already a thread for this? I'm too lazy to find it too. :) lol.

    Team captains, huh.

When do we pick those? I think if it's at the start of T.C. it might be different than if they wait til August or late in Training Camp, once people get a chance to prove themselves.

Also, not sure if outsiders with big names like Dansby and Marshall can become immediate captains. Depends on how quickly they're accepted.

I think Marshall being captained is unlikely. Dansby being Captained would rankle Channing, I bet. But so what. Channing hasn't earned it. He is not a big play guy, nor does he go above and beyond. The proff is that he always shows up looking soft for training camp.

I really don't know who it'll be, but if Chad Henne doesn't end up getting a C, I think it'll say a lot about his relationship with this team. That being said, I think a lot of what we've been reading has suggested there is a pretty good bond there, so I don't think it'll be a problem.

Man, if your starting QB... the future of the franchise doesn;t merit a star, then yeah that'd be a HORRIBLE sign.

It also symbolizes a passing of the torch for Henne to get a Captaincy and Pennington to NOT get it.

But, the players vote... so... what if Penny wins one and Henne doesn't?

    Offense: Big Jake or Ricky

    Defense: Dansby....

It would be cool if RW got it....for sure...Dansby I would love see him want it, demand it almost, and earn it this summer esstentially show the team who's defense it is...
