The interior offensive line continues to rotate by unit. But it appears the front runners to start right now are rookie John Jerry at left guard, Jake Grove at center, and Richie Incognito at right guard. It appears that Cory Procter’s signing nixed the plans to have Donald Thomas working at left guard. He was exclusively a right guard this weekend…. Rookie outside linebacker Koa Misi has been the starting strong side linebacker for all but one practice during minicamp. Misi said the Dolphins’ coaches have him working with the first-team to put him in a sink-or-swim situation, and it’s motivated him. He’s submerge himself in the playbook so that he makes the right decisions on the field when he gets a specific look. Quentin Moses and Cameron Wake finished Sunday’s practice working as the second team outside linebackers. I suspect Wake is the strong side guy considering he’s best attacking the right tackle, which was what he typically did. Wake is also part of the first-team nickel package as one of the front line people with their hands in the ground. Sparano said left tackle Jake Long has gained 6 pounds, but has also managed to lose some body fat in the process. That means he’s gotten stronger. “He’s gotten stronger and more athletic,” Sparano said. He also pointed out Long is using his hands much better…. Sparano said he’s liked what Starks has done at NT since the position switch. He successfully holds the point, but points out Starks still needs work on play recognition…. I find it interesting that FB Rolly Lumbala is doing more drills with the TEs than he is with the backs. That’s been consistent throughout minicamp. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...sweblog+(Miami+Dolphins+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs)
Its really nice to see Jerry making progress as well as Misi being on the First team. Im so pumped to see what these rooks can do.
Well, it sounds like they are trying Lumbala as a HBack type which is really his best shot at making the Roster as Lou Polite (who reminds of Howard Griffen) is a lock as the starting Fb.
i've said since the draft my favorite pick was john jerry jake long and john jerry are going to be bulldozers on the left side
time for big Jake to take on the rookie, his sidekick, and lead the man into knowing whats its like to be the premiere player at your position...With Jerry's physical skillset, along with a great body to work with, and Jake leading the player in every way, its a really nice scenario for success. Would still like to see Donald Thomas fight for that job with incognito.
Jake Long is a rock. And on top of that a rock at a critical position. Thank God we took him instead of Chris Long- I never understood the thought of taking CL anyway. Long, Jerry, Incognito, Donald Thomas, Carey- all bulldozers. Grove gets some good push, too. I'm looking forward to seeing the O line play this year.
I want to see what kind of game this incognito cat has...not sure how a player winds up on three different teams in 3 years and becomes such an immediate starter on that third team..not sure what that means about Donald. Grove and Richie are the 2 players iam gonna watch closely in the first half of the season. I wanna be able to know if we need a new young center in the 2011 draft or bring in a different free agent center.
I don't think Incognito's problem has ever been talent, he's nuts and ends up going off the deep end and kicked off teams. Hopefully he dials that down here.
yeah ive heard the whole its never been about talent with him angle...we'll see, iam sure as heck not sold on the guy being a fixture here
They've been doing that for years, though the last H-Back to really stick (albeit, only for a few years) was Casey Cramer.
I guessed right after the draft that Jerry and Incognito would be the starting guards. Not that its set in stone yet, obviously, but it seems to me thats the best long term unit. Still not 100% on Grove, but we'll see.
John Jerry is massive, and he can move. He also sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders. That's Sparano's guy at LG.
