The first time I said it, it was after his 8th game in his rookie year {went on to make the probowl}......The Premier Left tackle in the game....The projection on his ceiling after 8 games of film was off the charts..him becoming bigger and stronger was part of that projection, you just new he was gonna take the offseason seriously.

I watch him ball as much as anyone on the team...fantastic to watch....were in good hands , literally, with that cat.

Explains why Sparano weighed the guy multiple times throughout the year and he held the same exact weight. Now magically he gains 6 pounds of muscle tissue.

Man, not sure about that, however I was at the Bengals vs. Jets playoff game here last year. Nick Mangold's gotta be the best C I've ever seen play live. I sat in one of the endzones, and it was unbelievable watching Mangold work - he's the best OL on the Jets, no matter what anyone says about Ferguson.

I would agree with this, and I'd put Mangold ever so slightly ahead of Ferguson as the best OLman on the Jets.

However, I think Brick is much more valuable in the long run as a top-tier LT is harder to come by than a top-tier C.

Ferguson is my 2nd favorite Jet behind Revis.

I was just kidding about him being better than Long [kinda]. They're both really good, and it is pretty hard to compare LT's since there is no real statistical basis for the position.

Jake Long and Joe Thomas are in a class by themselves. They are the NFL's clear best LT's now. D'Brick I would put into the second class of LT's with Clady (although Clady needs to step it up after a soph slump), Jared Gaither and Michael Roos. With 3rd class being guys like Jordan Gross, Jammal Brown (when healthy) & maybe Marcus McNeill.

I know. I actually work for Anthony Munoz's Foundation here in Cincinnati, and got to talking about the best OT's in the NFL today a few weeks back. He said his personal favorite is Joe Thomas (he's more athletic/flexible - as Anthony put it, able to bend and handle the shorter DE's like Dwight Freeney better than Jake Long).

He had Long and D'Brick as 2 and 3, but he had the Jets entire offensive line as his top O-line in the NFL ahead of New Orleans. Ferguson and Mangold are definitely the foundation.

Just for curiosity's sake, say the salary cap comes back and you've given Revis a lucrative contract (for obviously deserved reasons) and you're forced to let one go between Ferguson or Mangold - you still keeping Ferguson?

I sign Ferguson and don't look back. No questions asked.

Cool stuff with Munoz, BTW. I'm sure that must have been awesome.

Just a FYI, Gaither is no longer a LT. He switched with Oher this offseason.

    Your tiers seem logical.

Hmmm...now that I really think about it, going back to your original post, you're spot-on. A top-flight LT is harder to find, and Ferguson is definitely top-flight. As is Mangold, but as you said, a C is easier to find. I think I would keep Ferguson as well if you put a gun to my head.

Long is our best draft pick of the past 15 years. We've had our busts over the years, but Long looks like he is heading to Canton.

The synthetic fat in the initial prototype couldn't play nice with the endo-skeleton; the idea was scrapped.

You've got absolutely no idea what you are talking about and are using a perceived inability to statistically rate a Left Tackle to make stuff up and not be called on it.

Peters wasn't great, but he was a hell of alot better than he was in Buffalo in 2008.(I wonder why?)

6 lbs of muscle and dropping his body fat % too? This guy is going to be a wall of muscle, seriously, holy cow. I'm curious what the % is, I don't think they said in the article?

Anyways its good to see, not even from a love of the team, but just from a view of the game, that there's guys out there who can get that big #1 draft pick pay, and work to prove they deserve it.

Gaither is still a LT... that just happens to play RT.

The Ravens are only moving him b/c they expect to be trading him, and want Oher to be getting as many reps as possible.

    Ok lets do it.
    http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=7122&team=21
    Bills 2008: 11.5 sacks in 13 games
    Eagles 2009: 6.0 sacks in 15 games

We can do more of the statistics you called for?

    http://profootballfocus.com/by_posi...e=r&runpass=&teamid=-1&numsnaps=25&numgames=1

Which coincidently have Joe Thomas and Jake Long rated as #1 and #2 Tackles last year.

    You would fit right in.

    Please... due tell...

    Back in Miami
We just had another thread where there was real debate as to really how important it is for a player to dedicate himself to workout programs and whether the shape a player shows up to camp really matters or not.

For something that some think dosen't matter, Sparano sure seems excited about it.

Having said that, this is a great sign.
This guy continues to devote himself to becoming the best professional he can be. Type of players a team needs to make the top.

no offense dude, you're just wrong. I consider elite to be top 5 at your position in the league. Even the biggest dolphins hater in the world can't pick 5 guys in the league who are better than Jake Long right now. I'll give you 2 or 3 maybe, but 5? no way.
