I have the feeling that Dolphins Writers would prefer offensive players as there are just more directions they could take the coverage. Compare Pat White "he was superman at Qb" stories to "My college Dline coach told me".

Well, this subject has been understated on these boards all offseason, but the OLB position is a serious question right now. We all have the hopes up on Misi and Wake landing the two spots, but it's pretty scary to think that Anderson and Q Moses could be our starting OLBers...

Wake did very well in the limited role he was asked to play last season and gave us some highlights as well as hope for this year, now that JT and JP are gone. The thing is, he still has to show he can control the run and drop into coverage at times as well as he rushed the passer. We know he can do that (rush the passer), and that will be his primary responsibility on the weak side, but can he do those other things well enough. Moses really isn't any more developed as a complete lber than Wake is, but he's been in this system for 4 yrs. He's not nearly the pass rusher that Wake is though.

Misi and Anderson are vying for the SOLB spot. Misi has to transition to LBer from the college DE spot. While that's a common occurrence in the NFL these days, learning the nuances of setting the edge on the strong side and pass coverage are paramount to not only Misi's success but the success of this front 7. He's got all the tools, I think, but that has to translate to this level and we're asking him to do it NOW, not in a year or two.

Anderson is at best a journeyman. He wants the opportunity and has a lot of experience, albeit in a backup role, but I'd be pretty bothered about relying on him for the whole season. I guess the hope is that he can hold the fort down while Misi develops further. He can play either side, but probably is more of a SOLB than a weak side guy.

I thought this way once JP and JT were released (which, I don't think was the wrong thing to do at all) and I still feel that as these two spots go in development goes the entire D. FS is an issue as well, but I think we can get by with a journeyman guy like Culver there or a youngster like Clemons and the rest of the D can fill in, provided the OLBers do their part...

Not sure about that 23rd, if anything Lb is a mashup of vets who haven't done much, and rooks who no one knows what they will do when the light turns green.

jt and jp were both worthless last season so it was time to move on. it takes a little time to get other guys acclimated but even anderson being a scrub is better than a washed up jason taylor. the defense is getting younger which is the way it should be. our linebackers absolutely sucked last season. thus the clean house and upgrade took place. i still think we blew the pick on odrick. should have taken jerry hughes. misi will be fine in time. the guy is a keeper who will be here for many years.

I wouldn't say JT was worthless last season.

I agree on everything but "blowing it on Odrick". If Odrick plays like a first round pick should, making a big impact, it will makes us way better for a long time. Even before Merlings legal mess, since we moved Ol' boy inside.....we were going to need DEs to step up.

All we need is Odrick to play well. If he does, he was a great pick.

i don't see Anderson as a SOLB type at all ... i see him just like last year, playing WOLB (when he spotted JP) ... right now, the starting OLBs are Misi at SOLB, Anderson at WOLB .. with Wake on passing (nickel) downs as a pass rushing specialist.

at SOLB, i have a hard time buying into Moses, since he has had ample time to show something ... and Johnston and McCoy are simply unkowns ...

at WOLB, we just don't have a lot of choices ... i had hoped that Misi would be the long term answer at WOLB, but it looks like Anderson is a lock here. Walden 'could' be a long shot, but doubt it.

we are 'set' at ILB, but we are not 'set' at OLB or FS right now today .... albeit, i still believe it is Clemons job to lose at FS, he is much faster than Jones - and Culver is a solid backup.

for Odrick, don't think we wasted that pick at all ... he was my pick - assuming we traded down. one way to help the OLBs is to improve the DE play ... and Odrick will do just that. He is our 'help' on the WOLB side ... I see him very much like Starks -- could be even better -- which makes our DL better.

IMO LB has been overstated all off-season. It seemed like every pre-draft conversation turned into exaggerated hype about how we had to draft pass rushing LBs or our defense was doomed. I think people underestimate the pass rush ability of Anderson and Wake and their ability to replace a poor playing Porter and a decent but unspectacular playing Taylor. People also seem to ignore that we were a top 10 pass rushing team last year. We had our problems on defense, no doubt, but pass rush wasn't the problem. As I stated several times our need at OLB was at SOLB and for speed and coverage ability from the LBs in general. (The major need is/was a ball hawking FS

In the end we didn't draft any pass rushing OLBs (at least in the premium rounds). We drafted the SOLB in Misi and the coverage LB in Edds. I do really like McCoy and believe he has the potential to become the defensive star of this draft (Odrick, Misi and Edds have that potential as well), but I don't know if it's reasonable to expect much from such a raw player this year.

I hope Misi sticks. Misi and Dansby playing in the ame linebacking corps for years to come sounds fantastic to me. Granted, that leaves two other starting positions to fret over, but we were going to have to rebuild the corps at some point, so wy not take our lumps this year with a couple of patchwork veterans and young guns so that we come out on the other end ahead?

Tim Dobbins is still the wildcard of the bunch too.

I agree with the first paragraph.

But Anderson isnt an SOLB. He is more of a WOLB.

I think its Anderson and Wake at WOLB, with Misi at SOLB. I also think Moses is more of a WOLB, even though he is getting SOLB reps. Johnston is a guy to watch out for at SOLB though.
