Sam Baker? Really? And Clady had a pretty big sophmore slump. I started a thread a while back saying Long was very good but not dominant and i got pounded on! But I have to say he is a top 5 LT in this league no question.

Hilarious list. Please... I'll ask you AGAIN... what did Jake struggle with in your opinion? Specific examples, in which games did you see that made you feel he isnt in an elite catagory?

I called you a troll b/c you had refused... and still have refused... to break down exactly what you were basing your opinion on... or really provide any facts with your argument. What did Jake struggle with in your opinion that is holding him back from being considered elite? What specific examples from which games do you remember that made you formulate that opinion?

I'll start using facts. Feel free to join me...

Here are the guys on your list from last year. I'll start with the Elite LTs:

    Joe Thomas - 3 sacks - 5 QB Hits - 7 QB Hurries - 15 total pressures in 16 games
    Jake Long - 4 sacks - 5 QB Hits - 7 QB Hurries - 16 total pressures in 16 games
    Ryan Clady - 8 Sack - 6 QB Hits - 20 QB Hurries - 34 total pressures in 16 games
    Michael Roos - 4 Sacks - 6 QB Hits - 23 QB Hurries - 33 total pressures in 16 games

    The rest...

Jordan Gross - 6 Sacks - 5 QB Hits - 11 QB Hurries - 22 total pressures in only 9 games - On pace for 39 total pressures in 16 games
Sam Baker - 5 Sacks - 4 QB Hits - 28 QB Hurries - 37 total pressures in only 14 games games - On pace for 42 pressures in 16 games
    DBrick - 6 Sacks - 3 Hits - 9 QB Hurries - 18 total pressures in 16 games
Jared Gaither - 4 Sacks - 2 QB Hits - 6 QB Hurries - 12 total pressures in 11 games - On pace for 17 total pressures in 16 games
Sebastian Vollmer - 1 Sack - 1 QB Hit - 9 QB Hurries - 12 total pressures in 8 games at LT - On pace for 24 total pressures in 16 games

I made sure to highlight your boy Sam Baker... to see how he matched up. There is absolutely no comparison... lol

He'd probably be the best offensive linemen by leaps and bounds on the Bills but that doesn't make him better than average.

"A bit"? The guy who got annihilated by Tamba Hali?

The system that Ryan Clady played in under Shanahan in Denver protected him quite a bit in Denver. The offense is a modified WCO and deals so heavily in bootlegs and waggles he could go an entire game without blocking more than a handful of 5-step drops.

But of course having watched so many games, you'd know that.

Pro Football Focus has Long as the #2 tackle last year behind Thomas. (Baker was 55, behind a bunch of RTs)

    http://profootballfocus.com/by_posi...e=r&runpass=&teamid=-1&numsnaps=25&numgames=1

The idea that Long is getting by on name recognition, or that only Dolphin fans think he is elite is asinine. Show me one independent news/stat/scout organization that doesn't have Long as a Top 5 LT this year, or that has Baker ranked above Long. I'll wait.

By the way... this only factors in about 50% of the snaps, as this is only looking at pass protection. The other half, run blocking... he is clearly one of the more dominant run blocking LTs in the league.

So, as I've shown, he is in the elite catagory in terms of pass blocking, and I dont think it can even be questioned that he is in the elite catagory in terms of run blocking... there for, he is one of the best LTs in the league.

First off thank's on two accounts. One for correcting a spelling error we all love to have those corrected. Second for finally providing a list.

Here is a table I put together with data gathered from Pro Football Focus. The information shows only LT's who played more than 1500 snaps over the course of the last 2 years.

I then added up the total number of SK (Sacks) HIT (Hits on the QB) and PR (QB Pressures). I then Divided the Number of plays by the Number of Sacks to come up with Sacks/Snaps. This is the data I used to sort the table.

Had I used the Rankings from Pro Football Focus over the last two years Long would have been rated #2 right behind Joe Thomas.

As we can see Long only gives up a sack every 358 Snaps and over the course of 2 years has only allowed 22 QB pressures. If you don't find that Elite then I don't know what to tell you.

Guys, you are going to let a Buffalo fan even attempt to make sense what a good football players is ? Especially the Oline ? They would not know an Olineman if he smacked them in the face. HAH !!!!!!!!! Now, that is a good one. Since they lost Peters all they do is dig up his stats, DAILY, and throw them around. Buffalo, the land that time forgot, loooooooooooooooooooooooong ago. I think their owner died and his daughter had his body stuffed and they sit him in a box for every home game.

From Gilbert Az. to boot. Anyone ever been to Gilbert Az ? Its a bedroom community surrounded by more nothin that thinks its the center of the Universe.

Did you get a chance to glance at my chart and see how poorly Peters has graded out over the last 2 years? As Charles Barkely would say he's Trbl.

Peters was terrible in 2008, no question. Missed camp due to the contract dispute, was out of shape, and overall just didnt compete hard.

But he rebounded this year to have a pretty good year. Not an elite year, but in the later portion of the top 10. Allowed 22 pressures in 15 games.

And that was in his first year in the offensive scheme, and w/o a whole offseason to learn the offense and gel with his new OL. I expect even better from him this coming year...

That was not my point. As middle of the road as Peters is, he is still heads and tails better then anything the Bills have in regards to OTs.

We all know the Pro Bowl has turned into a popularity contest. I watch a lot of football , not only the Phins and I can comfortably say, Jake Long is one of the best in the game right now. Who is THE best LT in the NFL ? Not really sure but Jake is up there.

Its between Joe Thomas and Jake Long IMO... with Clady just on the outside looking in. However, if Clady rebounds this year like I expect him to, he will be right back in that conversation again.

Regardless... Jake is a top 3 LT, no matter how you want to slice it... and to have that on your team is an amazing feeling.

I think Clady was protected in the WCO because it really played to his strengths. The reason he struggled, from what I saw, was because they asked him to man block and he struggles with that IMO. In the West Coast offense, the partner blocking is flipped. In the typical smash mouth offense, you have partner blocking to the right of the offensive line but in the WCO, its flipped to the left side so in reality, Clady had a lot of help in Denver from what I saw. However, that changed this past season and he was exposed. I think they are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with Clady.

The Pro Bowl is not a great award anymore, if it ever was, but not all of the voting is done by fans. Correct me if I'm wrong here but I believe the voting is split by fans and coaches, so it does have some value. With that said, I do think you're off on Jake Long and I don't say that because I'm a Dolphins fan, despite what you may think. Long has been pretty damn good and outside of the Atlanta game, I don't see a game in which he's struggled quite a bit in. He's improved his kick slide and the biggest knock that he had coming out was dealing with speed rushers and I think he's learned how to deal with them. I don't know what qualifies as "super great" but watching Jake Long last season qualifies him as "pretty damn good".

I believe its 1/3 Fans 1/3 Players 1/3 coaches. I would be thrilled if they removed the fan's vote. Most people just blindly vote for their own teams anyway so IMO their vote is pointless.

For all your blithering, you've yet to actually provide an example of even one play where you haven't been impressed by Long.

Just by the appearance of things, it seems your claim of actually watching Dolphins games is far-fetched.

Also, to say we are haters would imply a subject to be hated on. You've provided nothing substantial thus far, that comes close to constituting a subject.

And Gilbert is for people that have money.

Now that was funny, Thanks, needed a good laugh to start the day off. As far as a sideline hater ? WTF did that come from ? Just being a Bills fan is enough to tell me you walk around with a giant LOSER stamped on your forehead pal.

I am happy that they now have electric in Gilbert and that enables you to watch Television, thats great.

What amazes me the most is fans of other teams like you that join opponents message boards, why? Is it so bad up on the Buffalo boards that you actually go to a rivals board to see how good it is ?

About the closest thing I have ever done is look at opposing teams local media/papers, to see what is going on with a player we may be interested in or to see who is in or out of an upcoming game against them. It really tells a lot about a persons sad sad life when he not only beongs to his loser teams board but then joins an opponents teams board then comes on and tells people they are haters ?

Nobody hates you or the Buffalo Bills, we just know, by far, our organization is far superior to anything that Western NY will ever have. I have been to a few games in Orchard Park, have you ? The fans up there were great and they could really give two craps what goes on within a Dolphins message board, you should model yourself off the true die hard Bills fans. I feel for them actually because thats all they go up there besides tons and tons of rusted buildings and when Ralph Wilson kicks the bucket, the team will be sold by his daughter and moved, far away from Buffalo NY.

Bet you also belong to a NY and NE board, eh ? Must be a fun life going on different teams boards and trying to make believe the Buffalo Bills are really an NFL football team.

This is becoming very typical from you. First your argument was Long wasn't elite and simply made the Pro bowls because of his name. Then we point out how good his stats have been over the last two seasons (time he has been in the league). Then you say Stats don't mean anything its the eye test that he doesn't pass. But in the same post you had already said you don't need a sports writer to tell me a guy is good. So his passing the 'eye test' of a profesionsal sports writer isn't good either.

    • So he passes sports writers eye tests.
    • He passes our eye tests.
    • His stats over the last couple seasons have been outstanding.
    • He's been voted into the Pro Bowl by his peers and the fans each of his two season.
    • But simply because he doesn't pass "your eye test' he's some how not good.
When you first came here we all treated you with respect (for the most part). As it stands now I don't think anyone here has any respect for you, your opinion or your 'eye test'.

We love to talk football and talk it openly with anyone who comes here willing to talk football with an open mind. WC you might not think so, you might think your some how clever the way you constantly move the target and change your argument each time you are presented with facts that disprove your theory's. But you really are nothing but a troll and the only justice I find in your existence is the fact that you have to suffer through yet another Bills season. Good luck with that by the way.

The reason why your getting torn apart Wagon is because you have said absolutely nothing about why you have this opinion. Standing behind the 'I' watched himwith nothing backing it up tends to mean 'hot air'. You could have mentioned his first game and a half where he struggled getting into his groove. Could have mentioned anything about his trouble with smalle, quick Freeney types. However you just went the 'I' saw them route. Sorry hate to say it but many people watch just as much. I've been watching games for 25 years religiously, but you won't see me lording such over people & assuming we all don't watch just as much. Especially on an opposing board. You got to bring it better then that. Club level guys would eat your lunch with non-backed statements like this.

I've asked you MULTIPLE times to break Jake Long down, and what he does poorly or what he struggles with that has led you to your opinion. Maybe some specific examples from games you've watched. Jake Long...If you could build a left tackle from scratch you have #77, an excellent physical specimen with a very low body fat percentage for a man this size, and the work ethic to improve that ratio [added 7 lbs of muscle in the offseason, been weighed several times, with no flucuation}...Technique wise, at 6'7 324 lbs this player's "get off" the LOS, is 2nd to none in the league, always being the first off the snap and squaring himself up to his opponent that fast, advantage Long, the long arms he possesse's allows him to keep an inordinate amount of distance between he and the opponent, while firmly keeping his base and head square before his initial punch, he keeps this almost perfect foundation throughout engagement, Its really a beautiful thing to watch.....Imo, his perceived weakness has become a strength, and he literally can be left on "Long island" {pun intended} and does so on every play with the best pass rushers the league has to offer..

    Thats just his pass protection.

" Sorry he's not a top 5 LT. If you want a top 5 LT look at my list. My example is all those guys PLAY better. Is that good enough? Probably not".

This post is a perfect example of bringing no game to the table.....Like I said, this is not your average football website, If you dont figure a way to better communicate your opinion, then your gonna need to change your sig under your name.

Provide the empirical stuff to support your statements and they won't be questioned so much.

    Still dodging... lol

You don't like examples? Too hard for you to make up?

How about saying what you think he struggles with? Or what the LTs that you have ranked higher do better than him?

What does a guy like Jordan Gross to better specifically than Long? How Gross allowed more pressures in 9 games than than Jake allowed in 16? Break these LTs down for me with your "football knowledge". What specifically makes them better? Hand placement? Kickslide? Hand punch? Leverage? Knee bend? Footwork? Other techniques?

    Still waiting...

    Where is this top 5?
Oh, you mean based on measurables you can use to to actually compare performers?
