I believe Ronnie will sign a new, short,(3 max years)contract. This will happen because next season he finishes healthy and he will take a pay cut to stay here.
I hate to say it, but... I have a feeling Ronnie won't be a Phin after this season. I hope I'm wrong.
I agree, the best thing for Brown is to re-up here and not test the FA waters. Of course, NE is always looking for someone on the downside of their career, they just don't pay as much... I digress....sorry....RW has a year or so left in the league. Most teams won't want him at his age and history, that said....Brown is more valuable to the Fins for the longer term than RW. Brown at 29 yrs old and injury history won't get as much from anyone else as he will here. It's simply in his best interest to stay, even tho it won't be the huge money deal he wants or thinks he should get... Either way, look for a new piece of the puzzle at the running back spot next season either as a complementary back to Brown or as the main with Brown serving in the Ricky role...
If they're smart and Ronnie is smart enough to listen I'd have to say Ronnie. He will be a monster this year if he can only stay healthy... I know that's a big IF but I believe him and the team will realize he's good for the team.
That's the same story every year and its getting old...."Ronnie will have a monster year if he can stay healthy". And who do you speak of when you say "if they're smart enough"? The front office? It has nothing to with being "smart" because its not as simple as that. The "smart" thing to do would be to shop Ronnie while he has some value. Another injury from him, and forget about it.
Wildcat is part of who we are now going forward...Ronnie will be signed if he stays healthy this year imo...
the fo knows ronnies market value is low these days after the season they will offer what they seem fair and ronnie will balk then he will go test the market if no one bites he will come back and sign the contract we originally offered
Ronnie will def be back next year and as for Ricky i believe he said this is his last year which as we all know could turn into another year or two. Ricky goes first if he retires and Ronnie goes first if Ricky stays. The FO will then draft a RB (even if both are here next year i see the FO drafting a RB pretty high) prob with the first pick atleast the second.
I am thinking they are both gone after this year and the phins double dip in FA/Draft. It's time after this season to start finding younger/healthier blood at running back.
I see Ricky playing once more in 2011. Ronnie, if he has a good year should stay. Sometimes I think maybe they'll let Ronnie go, draft a RB, and use Cobbs as the starter with Ricky backing him up in 2011. Hilliard looked good last year when he played, so he could be something as well. Marshall should mean the RBs wont be facing as much since D's wont stack the box, but still. It seems Ronnie's injury in 2009 was more of a freak one.
IMO, Ronnie Brown will walk next year. We will add a feature back via free agency or draft, and retain Ricky Williams on a one or two year deal as the backup. I've believed this all along and I'm sticking to it.
some of ya'll really underestimate the talent of Ronnie Brown, and how the Wildcat is part of who we are going forward.. Ronnie wouldn't last 1 day on the free agent market. I may be wrong, but my instinct tells me this is the offense we will try to win a championship with...all the pieces and philosophy are set in place for a run at the whole freakin thing next year...Ricky and Ronnie will both be on this team next year..
You'd invest a long term contract in Ronnie Brown with his injury history? Maybe if he can last a full season this year, but if not, then no way. Sure he's one of the most talented backs on football when he's on the field... but that's just it... when he's on the field. He's not getting any younger either. He'll be 30 in 2011.
From Ronnie's injury history, I would think he's the one that's gonna be in an electric powered scooter. One vote for Ricky.
Awesome question cobrajet. I think Ricky, could play on for years because he's not getting a boat load of money and they could always keep him for third downs. (etc...) Ronnie on the other hand has superior talents but they won't offer him the contract that he wants, which will make him walk. IMHO; I think that Ronnie walks before Ricky quits.
This is a hard question. If Ronnie stay healthy this year then I will go ahead and put him for a shoe in for staying aboard. Though if he get injured again this year it'll most likely be his last in a Dolphin uniform. Which would almost guarantee we use our #1 pick on a RB next year with Ricky staying 1 or possibly 2 more years backing up our new RB.
