I was watching NFL's Network of the league's best non-drafted players and was wondering who the best Dolphins player never to be drafted was...... Any thoughts? Davon Bess, Larry Little, I know he was cut by another team, but I'm not sure if he was ever drafted in the first place.
Larry Little and Jim Langer were the two Dolphin HOF players that were undrafted. I would vote for Little as the best undrafted Dolphin ever just b/c he was one of my favorite players. As much as I like Bess, I wouldn't compare him to any HOF players.
And the draft was much longer when those players came out, which makes it more impressive IMO. I would bet that Bess probably would have been drafted given a 12-round draft.
Yeah, but not enough to make up the difference in the number of picks in going from 12 rounds to 7. (12 rounds with 28 teams = 336, 7 rounds with 32 = 224).
wasn't Mark Dixon undrafted when we brought him down for Canada? He was pretty damn good for a couple of seasons, at least on same level/better as Bess. Oronde Gadsden was pretty good too.
Didn't know Little went undrafted. I watched that great 70's team and he definitely gets my vote. Just more proof that there's no such thing as a "draft expert".
He was good but no where near the level he's played since. For Miami he had a little over 1100 yds receiving over three years. He also returned punts and contributed in other areas on STs. But he was no where near the level of Little and Langer. And by the end of this year he'll be no where near as big a contributer as Bess.
Welker gets a lot of yards by Brady throwing a 2 yard pass and Welker then runs for 20. Different offense than what he was running here in Miami.
Welker was open alot here too, we just didnt have a QB good enough or smart enough to throw to him 15 times a game like he does now.
