Dolphins, the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL

So I was checking NFL.com hoping to see breaking news on Atogwe (someone SIGN HIM) when I noticed the fan rankings. We're ranked number 18 behind some pretty good teams. Personally I like it because when we make noise, everyone will be surprised. We're in the bottom half of the league according to this poll and that suits me. Especially considering we haven't accomplished anything. I just wonder why the Jest are number 4. I've narrowed the reason down to one of two things:

    1. Fans biting on the ENDLESS fellating of the Jest by the news media.
    2. PS17 creating an auto voting script and skewing results.

The top 4 teams are the teams from the championship games last year. I'm fine with that. Of course that doesn't mean anything for this year.

It's a reflection of the final standings.

The load of the national bandwagons, if you will.

Exactly. The fans and media always put a great deal of stock in last season's final standings. Of course, history has shown that is a very poor barometer as the turnover amongst playoff teams and division winners is always substantial.

I am surprised that we didn't get more of a bump in national perception from the Marshall acquisition. The media praised that almost universally.

But either way it wouldn't make much difference to me if we were #1 on the list or #18. In fact, I'd prefer to be anywhere out of the top 5.

This is in regards to fans and when you have 8 billion people living in the tri state area of NY NJ and Conn. yeah, you have a lot of fans. You can showcase a one legged man assss kicking tournament up there and draw 60 thousand people. Another reason why I USED to live in Jersey. Good place to come from and even better place to leave. Also, there is no way on planet Earth , the NY Jets have better or more fans then the NY Giants. Absolutely false. Giants fans are far better then the Ra Tard Flushing teams fans.

There is no comparison between Giants and Jets fans. Giants fans are actually knowledgeable about the game and don't make complete asses out of themselves on a regular basis.

If you look at that list the top 4 teams were in the championship game last year, Yet their are 3 teams below us who were in the Superbowl just a few seasons ago. Funny how quickly things change I don't take much stock in these lists.

Just what is this list based on? That's what I would like to know. IMHO the best fans in the NFL are 1. Steelers, 2. Broncos (hard to argue with a season ticket waiting list of over 40,000). As far as supporting their teams, as much as it kills me to say it, those on this site and other similar sites not included, Miami has the worst fan base in the NFL. When you can't watch a PLAYOFF game (2001) because it is blacked out locally, that is a bad fan base!

I know I'll be roasted or tarred & feathered, but for fan loyalty and game support, we may not be the worst, but we are a far cry from even 18. JMVHO

The season ticket waiting list for the Packers is over 80,000 people / 30 years, and that's in a city of 100,000 population. I live in "Packer country". It is absolutely insane, especially during the Super Bowls of the 90s. I hate the Packers, but I'd put Packer fans above any fans of any sport in America. There are no other major sports up here, they are obsessed.

The Dolphins do have a nice fan base scattered across other markets... nothing like the Steelers or Cowboys but certainly stronger than teams ranked ahead of Miami like the Bengals, Falcons, and Texans.

Jets at #4 isn't much more of a stretch than the Giants at #10.

Eh, imho the Dolphins fanbase has been constantly disappointed, notice that blackout happened after:

    -Marino retired
    -the Jacksonville playoff massacre

The franchise gave fans little reason to think things would be different in 2001 and with 1 playoff win in the last ten yrs, until something changes and Sparano wins some playoff games, the Dolphins will not have the following they had during the Marino/Shula/JJ era.

Then there was the string of "savior" Head Coaches who failed miserably, no Qb, and no Stars on offense.

This is yr #3 of the Tuna Project, the last two have been the most successful since the JJ era, success breeds fans, unless you are the Marlins.

I don't think we are a top 12 team or one of the 10 worst ether. So any ranking from 13 to 22 i think is fair.I'd put us at 16 myself.

    We went 7-9 last year.

An 18 rank is what we deserve until we can show on the football field that we're better than that.

Look the Fins have had 10 yrs of mediocre play and playoff win drought. In the minds of some other NFL fans, we are no better than the Browns, Raiders and Detroit. The jests frenzy is a big thing because of the big market media, no doubt, but give them their due (geez, that was really tough to type), they did reach the final 4 last year. I guess until we get back to where this franchise once was, where we contend every year, we're not going to be looked at like the Steelers, Boys, Pats and other bigger market/winning teams... It'll have to take fans saying "Crap, will someone please beat this team". Like they used to say about our Fins...Like they say about the BB and Brady bunch now, etc...

Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL, no...just not a consistent winner again...
