I'm eligible for an upgrade from my carrier in October, stuck with my 3G until then....oh the pain.

The flash on the camera is a "YES" moment for me.

The video camera at such high resolution is a "COOL" moment for me.

The better battery life is a "THANK THE MAKER" moment for me.

I'm setting a reminder on my 3G for the DAY that I'm able to upgrade. The black one looks sick.

I don't know about my American cousins but my bill is about 80.00 a month and my iPhone is my only phone, I don't have a landline.

I'm on the browser anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours a day, depending how busy I am and whether the woman is on the computer.

Depends on the plan you pick. There are three components: voice, texting, and data. AT&T is phasing out unlimited data and replacing that with three cheaper plans, for example. (People currently on unlimited data are grandfathered, thankfully.) So plans will get a few bucks cheaper on average, but if you load up, you might as well pay for the $100/mo unlimited everything everything plan.

Put me down as pre-ordering one next week, the Black 32GB.

I will admit I was a little disappointed that the whole keynote was devoted to iOS. I was hoping to get blown away but I wasn't. The leaks admittedly slightly ruined it but the lack of Mac computer hardware & Apple TV refreshes did it for me.

EDIT: Daym, Rosa Acosta smoking! I have to admit I went to youtube & started to watch everything related to her.

It's been like that for the last couple of years. Apple's used special unscheduled events and press releases to push Mac hardware updates out.

I sort of hoped for a preview of OS X 10.7, but I guess we'll have to wait until next January for that.

Speaking of Apple TV... Has anyone used that thing? Is that a bomb or what? I don't see how anything so reliant on iTunes could be good unless you're a bazzillionaire.

No, it hasn't been a success at all. Apple is nonchalant about it, they call it a hobby rather than a serious product. Steve Jobs said at a conference last week that Apple has found out along with Roku and others that no one wants to buy a box.

the main reason HTC doesnt have to worry about the iphone is because HTC makes numerous phones for numerous providers. they have alot more options then just the iphone and only at&t.

it makes getting an HTC phone easier because there arent as many restrictions or obligations. you can choose your carrier, phone, and OS.

I read earlier today that anyone who would be eligible to upgrade in 2010 could do so as early as today or whatever.

My browsing is sporadic. During the week I'd say I average 1-2 hours and on weekends almost nil. My highest usage was when I was working out of town a few months ago and had no computer for 5 days a week for a month. Even then, using the browser for 3-4 hours a day 5 days a week I did not go over my 500MB plan. Little to no streaming though, mostly just standard surfing.

There is a lot of ways to use it though. There is a lot of free wi-fi floating around out there.

What UT said. You really have to try in order to use up a lot of data over 3G, especially because AT&T's wifi hotspots (which are free and automatically connect if you're using an iPhone and you're in range) are pretty prevalent.

Oh, wow. You need to get down on your knees and thank The Steve that AT&T is grandfathering current unlimited data plan owners into their new tiered data structure.

    More iOS 4 impressions.

Mobile Safari has gotten a lot of work on the back end. It's noticeably faster, much in the same way Safari 5 on the Mac is faster than 4. I suspect the two are sharing the same engine, or Safari 5's engine is being adapted for Mobile Safari somehow. The UI when entering a URL or searching for a term has changed slightly, with better (IMO) predictive results. Typing a URL out reminds me of typing a URL in Safari 5 or Chrome.

The Game Center is utterly useless to me, but I guess as it works as a sort of "Xbox Live for Casuals."

You can designate different wallpaper for your home screen and your lock screen.

Apple STILL won't let us delete the default apps.

Multitasking seems pretty simple, just double-click the home button and you get a pop-up tray of currently open apps. But like I said earlier, apps need to update to support multitasking, so no Pandora background streaming for you until then.

The more I use the new Mail, the more disappointed I get. They pretty much just tacked on a universal inbox and called it done. I'm glad that it's there, but they really should have redone the entire app to center around the universal inbox. Maybe next year.

Also, the lock screen is still empty, wasted space. I really wish Apple would do something like this. For a device that handles as much information as the iPhone does, it really needs a better at-a-glance conveyance of that information. A redesigned lock screen is the best way to go, and it's amazing Apple hasn't done anything with that yet. This and the half-hearted Mail update are my only real problems with iOS 4.0. I guess they had to prioritize, since they needed to develop both the iPad version apps and implement multitasking and other features, but I'd really like to see Apple revisit some of the basics.

iOS is still the best mobile OS. There are just some aspects getting a little long in the tooth. Nothing major, but I hope iOS 5 really tackles some of this stuff next year. In the meantime, I'll be picking up an iPhone 4 in two weeks.

Tethering is when you pair your cell phone with another computer, usually a laptop, and use the cell phone as a modem. Or as Wikipedia says:

I don't think it's possible to tether an iPhone to an iPad. Besides, you can just buy the version with 3G built in.

Anyway, not iPhone-related, but a nice overview of Safari 5's extension system. Apparently you can build extensions with plain old HTML and CSS. Slowly, HTML is turning from a very basic "make a homepage for your dog" language into something that essentially programs the web itself. Mindblowing.
