It would be cool to see the Penguin in the next one, or Hugo Strange but I feel that character is a bit obscure, although I think Terry O Quinn would be perfect for that role.

Because the character is obscure is a big reason why it might be a real possibility. Ras was a pretty obscure character and Nolan went with him. The only villain Nolan dismissed on record so far was Mr. Freeze for obvious reasons.

The easy villain(s) to pick in the next film would be Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman. I have a feeling we might see one of those characters (rumors are pointing to Catwoman as Bruce's love interest) along with an obscure character like Hugo Strange or possibly a made up character by Team Nolan.

I should note that the Penguin was in very early outlines of both Batman Begins and Dark Knight in a very minor role as an arms dealer for the mob but he was ultimately cut for whatever reason before a first draft was ever written.

Haha, no I doubt that. If the Penguin were to be in the next film, he'll look extremely different. More of a Mob type boss (picture someone like Phillip Seymour Hoffman in a mob suit) than a freak as seen in Batman Returns.

Which Devito still has the ability to play, by the way. The man has acting range beyond many other actors today. Yes, I'm serious, Danny Devtio is one of the best actors in America.

As far as the next villain, I'd be thrilled to see what Nolan could do with the Riddler. If there's any writer/director in Hollywood more suited to bring the Riddler to the big screen than Nolan, then I've never heard of them. Just watch Memento. (PS the main guy from Memento, who's name escapes at the moment, would be an excellent Riddler, I think.)

Hey I agree with you on Devito, he's a very good actor but I have more of a shot to play the Penguin in a future Batman movie than he does. There's no way any director, producer or studio would put Devito back in that role only because people won't look past the previous Batman series which ended on an extremely down note.

I think the Riddler is the safe choice as the next villain and I think that's exactly why Nolan would choose him. But I agree I think Nolan would do a great job with the character. Nolan is not a director that goes with the safe choice. If I were to make my best guess I'd say the Catwoman would be in it (since they made a very brief mention of cats in TDK) and either a lesser known villain or a completely new character that Nolan makes up.

Guy Pearce was in Memento. And yes he's be great in any role in my opinion. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he did play a villain since Nolan has been known to use a lot of the same actors/actresses in his movies.

I wasn't implying he'd get it, just stating he's more than capable and outside of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, is still probably the best choice based on physicality and acting chops.

I'd picture Nolan turning him into a low key serial killer type of thing. Not insane and manic, not quiet and reserved, but just cold and evil. (More like what Freeze should have been.)

Dammit, Guy Pearce, that's it. Brain fart.

Yeah many people have suggested that if the Riddler was in the 3rd film that he should be a 'Seven' type serial killer so Batman would really have to use his detective skills.

Chris Nolan recently did an interview where he stated that The Joker would not be recast or in Batman 3. So there goes the rumors and speculation about the character.

Good. The franchise as a whole has been overwhelmingly too Joker-reliant.

The Riddler as a Se7en-style serial killer would be awesome. Keep it dark.

Being Joker-reliant didn't hurt Batman the Animated Series.

If they want a se7en style serial killer they should use Zzass.

I think they should keep it dark without having the Riddler become Joker-lite. As an evil serial killer type guy, he would be a Joker-lite.

I would like it more if they went kind of like a darker version of the latest Sherlock Homles movie. Where it is a battle of whits between batman and the Riddler. Instead of being a dark loving to kill jerk the Riddler should be a type of person who doesn't really care if people who aren't as smart as him live. Kind of a huge pompus *** who is also super intelligent.

Maybe something like he is brought from a different district to catch batman, however he is really there to finish the job of Ra's Al Ghul, where all his traps to catch batman turn out to be riddles for the demise of Gothem.

This would tie in the first movie and the second movie. Could even show that the Joker was an agent or a creation of the organization.

We should know more about casting and characters in the next few months, especially with 'Inception' coming out in July, which looks awesome by the way.

In Batman the animated series, I didn't think he was pure evil. I saw him more of a character who is willing to do anything for his wife and wanted revenge against the people who wronged him.

He was also in "10 Things I Hate About You" with Heath Ledger. Does this mean Julia Stiles will play Catwoman? haha, I was hoping for Eliza Dushku.

I think it would be tough to top Jim Carrey's Riddler and Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman. I wonder if they'll attempt it like with Joker[which worked] or try new characters. They do need a new female lead though, so I'd expect Catwoman or Harley Quinn.

I can't wait until we find out who will be playing Riddler so the rumors stop. Also Catwoman would be a good choice because I think Nolan would do a great job exploring the romantic side of Bruce/Selina and their alter egos. Plus is this really the last of Nolan's series? I heard a rumor that this movie wraps up Nolan's story.

True, well Batman Forever was an abomination entirely. It was more for kids[I liked it when I was one], like Batman and Robin.

Plus with the end of Batman Returns where Pfeiffer was still alive showed there was supposed to be a real sequel before they made it "family friendly", so hopefully they do bring the character back for this. Especially after the 2004 movie, they need to make people forget that. Shouldn't be hard to do that.

You're assuming that The Riddler will even be in the movie, nothing has been confirmed yet. But I agree I can't wait until they announce the cast because all of these rumors are pointless and some are just flat out dumb, Cher as the Catwoman, really? That's the best they could come up with?

And yes this is the last Nolan/Batman film. He's done after this film as he stated a few times that his trilogy on the Batman series will be all wrapped up at the end of the 3rd film. However I could see him, Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer being asked to help the next director who takes over for the franchise, sort of how Nolan is now helping with the Superman franchise.

I stated many times in this thread and other Batman threads that the original Batman Forever script was awesome. It was dark like the first film and really went into details of Bruce's emotions over his parents death. Warner Brothers basically changed the movie and geared it more towards kids and cut out all of the dark elements (like Two Face escaping Arkham by killing guards to start the movie) and took away the Bruce Wayne storyline. If the real version was ever shown people probably wouldn't have crapped on it so much. Personally I liked Batman Forever, my only problems with it was Tommy Lee Jones playing Two Face was a laughing moron and Nicole Kidman's character.

I'm sure if you do a google search you might be able to find the original script. Seriously if you're a Batman fan it's a must read.

You never know, they could throw tons of money his way and make it tough to say no, but yeah I agree Bale must likely won't be back if Nolan isn't. I actually think they wouldn't ask him back for a 4th as they would probably want to start over fresh with a new cast of characters.

    Williams wants crack at 'Batman'

Robin Williams is urging movie bosses to cast him in the next Batman movie - because he has twice been turned down for parts in the superhero franchise.

Rumours over casting for Christopher Nolan's upcoming third superhero film have been rife ever since The Dark Knight, starring Heath Ledger as The Joker, hit cinemas in 2008 - with fans speculating over which characters will be re-introduced.

Nolan is said to be considering bringing feline femme fatale Catwoman back for the new movie, along with The Riddler.

Williams is adamant he would make a good replacement for Jim Carrey, who played the fiendish puzzler in 1995's Batman Forever, because the part was originally offered to him. The funnyman also reveals he was lined up to play The Joker in the original 1989 Batman movie before the role was later handed to Jack Nicholson - and the snubs have made him determined to secure a part in the next installment of the hit franchise.

He tells Empire magazine, "I would do Batman in a second. I'd play The Riddler in the next one, although it would be hard to top Heath Ledger as the villain and I'm a little hairy for tights.

"The Batman films have screwed me twice before: years ago they offered me The Joker and then gave it to Jack Nicholson, then they offered me The Riddler and gave it to Jim Carrey. I'd be like, 'OK, is this a real offer? If it is, then the answer's yes. Don't pump me again motherf**kers'."

Eh, I don't see it happening. Nolan seems to want the villains to be around the same age as Christian Bale. Plus again casting Robin Williams as The Riddler is just way too obvious, which isn't Nolan's style, and he's been a rumored name since TDK came out and people speculated that Riddler would be the next villain and if nothing has ever been confirmed. I bet someone like Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets the role, if the character is even in the film at all, especially since Nolan just got done working with him with Inception and Nolan likes to work with people he's worked with in past movies (and yes I know Williams has worked with Nolan before with Insomnia).
